Today, we have a significant announcement from the Honourable Sean Fraser, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship in Canada. A new temporary policy aims to benefit the thousands of foreign workers in the country.
Effective today, June 23, 2023, temporary foreign workers with work permits in Canada can enroll in study programs longer than 6 months without needing a study permit. This policy will remain in effect for the next three years, until June 27, 2026, helping all current and ongoing work permit holders.
The cap on study duration for work permit holders has been removed, allowing these individuals more flexibility in their educational pursuits. This is a big step from the previous requirement of needing a study permit for courses longer than 6 months.
This is great news for foreign workers looking to enhance their education or training. These foreign workers, who contribute significantly to Canada's GDP, often encounter barriers in education. This policy shift aims to ease those constraints, boosting their employment and immigration prospects in Canada.
The new provision is valid for three years, letting them study as long as their work permits last. But remember, if you want to continue studies beyond your work permit's validity, you'll still need a study permit.
