I can't wait to see how it welds. How do the mechanical properties of a laser welded joint compare to a tig joint ?

Ruining one of those units ( I have a lesser don't have the cleaning future) about 2 years now the gun set up is very inconvenient you learn it as you start to use it. the welds are consistent 99% of time no need post processing. I don't use the enclosure, in my case its not fusible some parts are exceeding 12 feet in length and width. On a jig table you can not get into the inner corners because the gun angle/ wire connections, you have to re think how to set up your parts. Be careful if you drop your gun is a gunner the galvo will get damaged. its a delicate unit. The triggers on the gun are horrible you need 4 fingers to operate it, on trigger release the gun will be in you palm supported by the thumb finger only. If you weld aluminum might wanna shorten the wire feeder lead to about 8 ft or so. I created a new connections on the wire feeder and the gun itself using a plastic liner between gun and feeder. interchangeable between short and long depending on job I'm running. 80% of the time I'm not running the feeder adding filler by hand or just fuse welding. Parts have to be very close to one and other no weld-gap laser just blows trough the gaps and you loose the ground lock while in the hollows. I was talking with IPG engineers days about what to change/update they are working on some cool futures some of them will be a huge game changer. You will love the machine despite the many negative things about it. well mostly the gun structure. You can weld very thick metals "V groove" and fill like if you would weld structural steel in that case is a slow process but works we do that on 3/8 aluminum.
