Exclusive: Alfred Kan-Ngam Arthur on Congress’ Position and Plans in Manipur

We caught up with the INC’s sitting MLA for Ukhrul at his home in Imphal. Alfred is among the state’s most vocal legislators and led the committee that drafter the critical HAC Autonomous District Councils Bill 2021. The Bill was eventually blocked from tabling by the BJP-led government in Manipur. He outlined the Congress, and Manipur Progressive Secular Alliance, position on key economic issues, AFSPA, the lack of development in the hill areas and described why the BJP is a threat to the plural fabric of Manipur.

A good leaders are not born often, they come once in a century or even a millineum. Make the best used of him, people of ukhrul district and tangkhul community in particular while you can. Don't ever kill him or shut him down. Us, kuki group, hmar and zomi in the past, we killed all our wise leaders.. because of petty household clan politics, doctrine differences and leadership fight etc.. now we are like a sheeps without good shepherd. lost and starving..

@@chunronnn8909 Ram muivah is an untested, unproven potential representative with zero experience in manipur field. Some people trust him because he is an IAS retired. Our tribal society need to wake up from this civil service crazed. In the past there were many IAS retired MLAs from the valley who didn't performed or cannot make their voice heard in this chaotic Indian parliamentary electoral representative system. It's not a catwalk for everyone willing. Only an outspoken, eye catcher, attention drawer..bold and brave lionhearted individual like Arthur will make an impact amidst the dominating meitei majority assembly.

Tangkhul which is considered as one of the most advanced tribe has made the biggest mistake for not giving him another chance. Look anywhere in India you won't find such a leader who could challenge and fight for tribal's rights in the assembly. He was truly a blessing for The Tangkhul and for tribal's as a whole but Tangkhul has made the worst choice. Bartering your right for the fear of NSCN is a coward acts and we tribals will regret this forever. I lost all my respect to the Tangkhul people.
