his contract at AZ was due at end of that season and he told them he didn't want to extend. only after that did he start talks with Feyenoord and AZ sacked him immediately when they heard. It's not as bad as it's made out to be

The new narrative that Dutch coaches don’t do well in England is an injustice to some achievements. I understand how Mourinho dunking on Frank de Boer, thinking he could play Barça possession football with Crystal Palace and losing his season-opening games before being fired, can lead to the creation of such a certain narrative, but I just think it was naive, and they were also maybe very quick to axe him. It’s not like they gave his project a lot of time. Anyway, some history: Ruud Gullit was the first foreign coach to win an FA Cup. He left Chelsea with an average of 1.74 points per game (this was pre takeover), which was clearly better than the coaches before him like Glenn Hoddle, David Webb, Ian Porterfield, Bobby Campbell, who all scored below 1.5 points per game on average. While we are on the topic of Chelsea, name me a coach in their history with a higher points-per-game average than 2.41, which Hiddink achieved at his first stint at the club in 2009? Not even Mou or Conte achieved that. Hiddink also won an FA Cup and was knocked out of the CL in a controversial manner by Barca. Ask Drogba. Dick Advocaat, when he came in at the tail end of the season, at least managed to prevent the relegation of Sunderland in 2015. That it did not work out afterward is secondary. He kept them in the league. There is Martin Jol, who did well at Spurs. I saw a Spurs fan saying that their journey to where they are now started with him. That they were a food poisoning (lasagna) away from reaching the top 4, which would have been special for them back then. Coaches like Santini, Pleat, Hoddle, and Graham before Jol all had clearly lower points-per-game averages. Ronald Koeman did a good job at Southampton. Pochettino before him got his promotion to Spurs with an average of 1.45 points per game. Koeman left with an average of 1.64 points per game. At Everton, things did not work out, but it was not like Allerdyce or Silva after him got more points per game. They had less. I will also not back off the fact that I think that the first season of ETH at United was good. Played 2 finals, lost 1. Did not inherit a good team. A team that leaked to the press, there was the Ronaldo issue, and he achieved a third place in the Prem with more points than the EPL number 3 achieves on average. Far into the season, they were the team in Europe with the most wins iirc. It's the second season that is the problem, not the first. So the year in which he transitioned from Eredivisie to the Prem actually went well. Regarding LvG at United, whatever you think about the football and the achievements, he did win an FA Cup. I also think it is striking how no coach after Fergie really succeeded at that club. Dutch coaches have won more FA Cups in English football (3) than Portuguese (1) or German (1), while icons of those nationalities such as Mou and Klopp have spent many seasons in English football. One more thing: if only winning the Prem matters, how many Premier League titles have been won by an English coach, exactly? And let's be honest. An absolute giant of a coach like Klopp only won 1 Premier League title during his long tenure. We all know why. Because Guardiola is at City. Now, a mini version of him is running Arsenal. If the expectation is that Slot just comes in and wins Premier League titles left and right, then that is an unfairly high bar. Klopp did neither, and Klopp himself is already a very high bar. Liverpool would be lucky if Slot gets anything close to him. I consider Guardiola and Klopp the best coaches of the past decade, especially when you consider the budget Klopp had to work with. That being said, I'm very curious about how Slot will perform in the Premier League. Exciting times ahead!

No German manager had won the league until Klopp did.So these arguments about Dutch managers are silly.

Spot on, it's all about them trying to create a narrative that isn't there

I would disagree that Feyenood is a world supported team. Maybe in Netherlands and maybe but unlikely across Europe. Liverpool is world supported team. Just go to Asia and Africa and you'll see their jerseys worn.
