@@OrdinaryFilmmaker Simon, I wonder. And I suspect. Isn't the R6ii probably a much bigger seller than the R5? And maybe the R8 or R10 beat it (in unit sales) as well? Surely the R5ii will sell a lot more than the R1 will. But with all the companies putting so much emphasis on the R6ii segment of the market (24MP, $2,500), I suspect that's where the real money is made.
@troypast35893 ай бұрын
The r5 is Canon’s mainstream camera with a wide appeal - pros, semi-pros, and hobbyists, so it is indeed significant - it’s one of their top cash cow products. The issue is here that many were expecting the R1 to be a true flagship product for the Canon line. Canon users have been awaiting a true competitor for other advanced cameras like the Nikon Z9 and Sony A1. Both of those cameras have been around for years and already have double the mega pixels and stacked sensors. While the r5 ii looks favorable spec wise to these cameras, it is not the weather sealed, dual cf slot, pro battery grip camera pros have been waiting for. It really looks like the r1 is more an r3 ii and not the R1 people have been expecting. The choice of low pixels seems to suggest that Canon is more behind in sensor tech. It will be interesting to see how an R1 will compare to a Sony A1 ii if it packs a global shutter and 50mp. Watching the Euro 24 soccer matches this week I noted the vast majority on the sidelines were shooting Sony. Canon needs a flagship camera, not just a niche one.

Sorry, remember being jpeg, but yeah, not having focus locked is a bit of a negative.

I’m looking for my first full farm mirrorless, was thinking z8, went to the store and held it, felt fantastic UNTIL I held the R5. The evf was brighter, more responsive and the dials seemed more intuitive. I think I’m sold on the R5ii. The R5 will do everything I need and more but I’m a buy once cry once shopper snd want a camera I can be in for the next 7+ years. I think the R5ii will fit that bill as my hobby goes from landscape to events to sports

Two weeks after the announcement Canon Says Due to greater-than-expected demand for these cameras shipping dates have been pushed out three months.

Three months is a positive outlook. Just look at the RF 200-800...

Just pre-order the camera the minute it is officially announced and you will be fine. You can always cancel a pre-order at any major retailer.

R1 will probably do 40 FPS at a higher bit rate than the R5II at 30 FPS.
@OrdinaryFilmmaker3 ай бұрын
I suspect the same. I don't think 40 fps raw was the ceiling, just one capability of note.

I am very excited to shoot with the Canon R5 MkII. I am in Canada on the east coast and suspect you are in Canada as well. I have never bought a camera from the USA and am wondering if the duties will in fact make it more expensive. Is it not cheaper to buy cameras here in Canada?

Hope they improve r5 terrible 10 stops of dynamic range it gets in video as tested by Gerald undone. And bad video stabilisation
@OrdinaryFilmmaker3 ай бұрын
A stacked sensor will help, but I wonder what other improvements will improve DR. In video, CLOG three provides more than 10 stops.

LCD question....Has there been any patent filings for a tilty-able LCD screen from canon? If not doesn't that mean a tiltable screen on the R5 is highly unlikely?

So I'm not sure what is meant by announcement versus launch versus release. I just want to know when the camera will be available for purchase.

I have just bought an R3. I really like it but I'm wondering if I should return and bank the cash for an R1/R5II. I don't technically need a camera until September (when I really will need one). Anyone have any thoughts?
@JohnTaraszka3 ай бұрын
If you need a camera by September I would not assume that either the R5 Mk2 or R1 will be available by then. The R5 Mk2 is more likely to b available based on current rumors, but rumors are called rumors for a reason.

R5II, will there be a different battery, battery charger, that will add to the cost depending how many extras you want. What type cards, that will add to cost. What else is need to support new camera?
@OrdinaryFilmmaker3 ай бұрын
We don't know about the battery size yet. Will try to find out. I suspect CFexpress Type B & UHS-2. dual Type B cards would be nice, but not expected.

Probably won’t see the R1 until the end of November. 🫤 Maybe won’t see the R5 II until October; maybe. 😮 The Nikon Z6 is priced at $3,096 in the U.S. That’s expensive for a Z6.

Canon R5 (with B&H Payboo discount) is $2,750 right now. There's a TON of competition among amazing cameras in the $2,000 to $3,000 range.
