Turn your woodworking router into a mortising machine (like the Festool Domino Joiner machine) with the Tianli Handheld Mortising jig! This mortising jig makes loose tenon joints so much easier at a fraction of the cost of the Festool Domino. The easy to use fence system and mortise size adjusters allow you to make any mortise size that your bit allows.
Features:
1. Precision CNC anodized aluminum body
2. Lightweight design, weighs 3.5kg (7.7lb) when used with Makita trim router
3. Industrial compact linear rails
4. Self-centering mortising, width controlled by stainless steel knurled knobs
5. Imperial and metric gauges for mortise width and fence edge to bit center distance
6. Easy to use mortise depth adjuster
7. Compatible with 65mm router spindle diameter (Other sizes will be supported in the future)
8. Easy to align mortise center pointer
9. Capable for making dowel holes
10. Assisted carriage homing feature when finished with mortising
This tool is brand new to the market, SO new that it is currently ONLY sold on eBay in LIMITED quantities. The maker of this jig messaged me on Instagram and presented this tool. I thought this tool is cleverly designed and has great potential to bring values to woodworking hobbyists like myself, so I agreed to do a review to showcase this jig to the world. Aside from receiving the jig, I do NOT make any commission or compensation from the eBay sales.

This is an amazing jig; in fact, in some ways it’s even better than the Domino. For instance, I can see this this jig routing deeper mortises with a longer router bit-something the Domino simply cannot do. Next, visibility is excellent, making it much easier to rout longer slots with confidence. And, finally, it can easily become a doweling tool by restricting the lateral movement. With a little bit of imagination, a host of useful accessories for chain doweling/mortising can also be built into the design. I hope the person who came up with this jig has applied for a patent, otherwise someone else will probably steal this brilliant idea.

Good jig. I agree with a lot of the comments that this is a lot cheaper than buying a domino machine but honestly depends on how much you use it . For example if you are doing thousands of joints and need to use on site where dust extraction and no possibility for clamping workpiece then buy the festool. Otherwise a great jig!

Easier said than done. Bigger router brings weight/balance/handling problems --- per Domino 700. In-line relationship between centerline of cutter and centerline of router motor adds another challenge, especially when cutting in horizontal orientation, which is most convenient, especially for long work pieces.

Yeah interesting product especially for those who are not pros and do occasional joinery for furniture. Even do pros I’d imagine either domino joiner would be unnecessary since in a higher production environment there would be jigs for repetitive parts. Festool has cornered the market on over priced over hyped tools. Their smaller domino joiner actually NEEDS dust collection or else it clogs up. The big one is heavy and clumsy and must appeal to a very small percentage of the market… big thick slabs joinery… so a very tiny market. A traditional biscuit/plate joiner accommodates the flexibility of loose adjustment but likely is not as strong as a tenon. Alternatively you can do three dowel holes side by side and get similar results to a domino tenon joint. At a fraction of the price. This tool is interesting although in two years it’s shot up from $199 to $260 (30%)plus shipping is $50 so well in excess of buying a plate joiner. With a router you’re certainly over $500 just to do tenons. No bueno Stick to a plate joiner and if you’re obsessed then get a dowel jig for extra strength

@reality150tv
@reality150tv 2 жыл бұрын
5? the tool is 250 plus shipping almost 300, add a trim router that works in it, maybe you have one already or maybe you dont, add another 100 that is almost 400 dollars now, and yes significantly cheaper and significantly slower. So roughly 2 and some change you can buy maybe 3 instead of 1 domino, but again it would mainly depend on is it making you money or not, if it is a tool used in ur work flow then you still better off with the domino. I do not own a domino and looked at this as possibility but after seeing the price i think i would either pay the extra for the domino or just make one myself out of wood as there are several videos on just that already. Having said all that it looks well made and prob well worth the money for hobbyist, but you are still left with the question if you are a hobbyist, should i build one out of wood. I would have been more interested if it went side to side on an angle as in pivoted.

@@reality150tv I f you live outside of the US or the EU the shipping is way more in my case the import taxes add up 40% for an electric tool over the sale price of the festool for a $1,000 tool is around $150 shipping and $400 in taxes, for this jig is $250 and qualifies in customs as a tool accesory that only pays 13% tax so $32.50 and maybe $50 for the shipping. Each of us see this from our own reality. Right now I do the floating tenons or dominoes on the router table and to my own tenons with hardwood thos allows me to use bigger tenons when needed, this jig is just more practical way of doing it.

$200(US) for jig, $100 for router. $300 just to start. 1/3 the cost of a FT Domino. No angles, no dust collection, no guides. I enjoyed your presentation on Tianli mortising attachment. I purchased a 'similar' attachment from a Facebook ad. It just arrived with no instructions for putting it together ... just a picture with parts labeled in Chinese. While the machining was good, the saddle for holding the compact router was two aluminum 'U"s that have no adjustment. The pistons have no measurements and there is one knob for adjusting horizontal and vertical with no clue as to where it goes. Hey... It was less than 1/4 the price of the Tianli... although "making it work" will cause me some headaches. I consider it a lesson learned.
