To the people who are ignorant on the subject - there is more than one pope - there is the pope of the catholic church - called the see of Rome, which started by St Peter. There is also the see of Alexandria, headed by another pope, the one that you see here in this clip - the origin of that was started by St Mark. People need to read up to expand their knowledge

The "pope" is a title used by the spiritual leader. All the "Orthodox Churches" are headed by a "Pope". Like Russian Orthodox Church, Ethiopian Orthodox, Coptic, etc..... Some of these churches have a history older than that of the Vatican.....
@erikriza71656 жыл бұрын
not true. no church is older than the church in rome. and most of the Eastern Orthodox Patriarchs do not have the title of pope.

There was one unified Christian Church until the year 451 when the Catholic church separated itself in the Chalcedonian Council. So yes, there is a church older than that of Rome.
@justiniand6a7885 жыл бұрын
@@paulibrahim2320 , the Catholic Church did not separate themselves from the whole in 451 but the Nestorians and Monophysites (Coptic and Church of the East I believe). It was in 1054 when the Catholic and Orthodox churches mutually excommunicated each other. Can't say who did it first.

The roman-catholic pope is the Patriarch of Rome, one of the former five patriarchs who ruled Christians before the several schisms happened.

@@erikriza7165 Church of Rome has no power over any other, only spiritual primacy as a doubly apostolic and the see of Peter. Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria Theodoros has the title of pope. Orthodox are older than Rome when it was the untied church, the Greeks were the first to be evangelized.
@MrCroconile11 жыл бұрын
for you information , the title "pope" were first used to describe the patriarch of Alexandria but our Lord said :" .., If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all." Mark 9:35 .........................I ask you to spend some time in reading church history .
@erikriza71656 жыл бұрын
in the third century, the word pope was commonly used to refer to all Bishops and Priests in the east, and mainly to Bishops in the west. it was not until the fourth century that the word came to be used more exclusively for the Bishop of Rome. The word derives from a Greek word meaning father, and also a Latin word of hte same meaning.

Absolutely awesome to hear Tawadros II's opinions. I will have endless joy referring to this Pope when dealing with Christian fundamentalists. Eastern Christian religions are just so much more sane than western Catholic derived Gobblegook!

Chk out my channel before you go assuming again. You keep failing every time you try to sprout your bigoted crap. So I am lying to myself because I know that the term god is meaningless because there is no valid definition of god which renders the statement 'god exists' meaningless. If they can find meaning in it, that's cool by me. If they want to think that standing on one leg keeps elephants away in the cities, cool. I don't care what people think, only do.

The Patriarch of Alexandria has been referred to as Pope since Pope Heraclas I of Alexandria (232-249 AD). The title actually was coined by the Alexandrian Church, and was used in the East as another term for Bishop, especially a Bishop of one of the Five Patriarchal Sees. The First Catholic Pope to be referred to as Pope in the written records of the Church was Pope Vitalian (657-672 AD). In the 11th Century the Catholic Church declared that no other Bishop within the West can be referred to as Pope other than the Bishop of Rome. Btw, even the Catholic Patriarch of Alexandria is referred to as Pope, while being in full communion with the Pope of Rome. Pope is a general title. Just like there are numerous bishops of different dioceses, there are numerous Popes of different Sees.

"Coptic pope"?! Never heard of it. There's only ONE true pope, successor of St. Peter and leader of Christ's Church - the Pope of the Catholic Church. All others are false. But I respect those in the coptic church.
@justiniand6a7885 жыл бұрын
The Coptic pope doesn't claim to be the successor of St. Peter but rather of St. Mark, first bishop of Alexandria. There was a point in church history when the title pope referred to all bishops as they were the spiritual fathers of their own jurisdiction. Eventually, this became unique only to the Bishops of Rome and Alexandria. The Coptic Pope is not Pope in the Catholic sense but rather as the head of his jurisdiction. There is also another Pope of Alexandria which is the Orthodox one who isn't pope in the Catholic sense but rather is as equal as any other Orthodox bishop.
