Rohit sharma's captaincy here left a lot to be desired. 1. He is so reluctant to keep the fielders inside to make the batsman take the risk of going over the top. Instead, Head and Smith were able to whack a few boundaries to force Rohit to spread the field, and in the process, they both rotated the strike to keep the scoreboard ticking at a fair clip. 2. He is not talking to his bowlers and fielders when they are erring in line and length. Also, the body language of the fielders were not upto the mark, no sense of urgency or intent. As a captain he needs to be proactive with field placings which was clearly missing right throughout the day.

Bumrah is loving these wonderful conditions in Australia. He is not the first to think he is in paradise for seam bowling. These pitches are close to perfect for quality test cricket. If each match went longer we would also find out that spin can win the match as well. We were told that Gabba is currently best batting pitch in Sheffield Shield and it does look it. India will also make 400 and will be a draw.

For Ind batters in this test, 1. Rotation of strike and building pships should be the first form of defense. 2. From here, it's more of a mind game!! They should start their first innings with the mindset of setting the score rather than whatever the mammoth total Aus will end up with in their first inngs. Ind bowlers need to learn the art of setting up a batsman in real quick, early on in their innings; that's what Aus always does to rattle the Ind batsman more often than resulting in wickets!! I really don't understand. What does the Indian bowling coach do there in the dugout? Having seen the last two test matches, Indian bowlers hardly bowled any ferocious bouncers at Head to cramp him for room. Instead, they always bowled to him at this strength to free his arms for a square cut or off drive. Morkel & Co. should spend more time with bowlers, barring Bumrah, to make them understand their shortcomings and stick to the basics in the remaining games at least!

There is a workaround about the Travis syndrome that the Indian team is facing. Here is how to go about it. Focus on the wickets of all the batters supporting him in the Aussie team. Do not let him bat and that should be part of your strategy. This has to be persistent and let it be known to the batters too. This will unsettle Travis Head. He will be vulnerable after that. I am surprised that Team India has not given a thought to this. Keep Travis at the umpire's end. Smith cleverly let Travis lead the show by quick singles. This is what needs to be curtailed. The rest is for the team to plan. Please pass this on to the Indian camp.
