My husband was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2010. I sent the scans and all the info to Dr Teo - he got back to me to say the position of the cancer was inoperable and apologised he was unable to help, I was not charged for this. I can’t believe he would adopt a cowboy attitude and operate on other patients disregarding the consequences. Dr Teo stated he could not help but my husband endured three brain operations - 1 biopsy and two tumour dissections and steriotactic tumour dissection. If this brilliant, passionate man had alterior motives he would have at least tried to benefit financially from our interaction. God bless you Dr Teo

Adding my positive comment in support of the best neurosurgeon we ever had and will ever have in Australia. Charlie saved my mothers life, performed 3 brain tumor operations in 18 years, kept her alive, only charged her for her first operation, treated and cared for her like his own mother. I have known Charlie for over 20 years, he has been bullied ever since he started his practice in Sydney doing what he does best, remove complex tumors other unskilled surgeons can't remove.

I worked for a doctor that was a teaching doctor but also in practice. He was really the best around and in the state. My family member went all over the state without the cancer being found until he saw the doctor I worked for, sadly it was way too late. I can tell you that the politics in the medical field are sickening. It’s jealousy of someone’s skill and their success as well as greed of the others because they aren’t as successful. I saw this happen to him and we lost a great doctor who truly cared for his patients.

I always wonder why Professor Chris O'Brien trusted Charlie Teo to operate on him when other neurosurgens told Prof O'Brien only had 3 months to live and refused to operate on him. Prof O'Brien lived for another 4 years. One of the things Prof O'Brien was grateful was he was alive to see his son graduated from police acadamy.

My mother was employed in the head and neck ward of RPA throughout the 80s. Charlie and Chris had a FRIENDLY rivalry which wasn't toxic, it encouraged each other to excel, no more. Dr Packham was a senior VMO there at the time and frequently commented to the nursing unit manager of the ward how fortunate he, the staff and the public were to have two such promising young doctors in the wings to take up the responsibility down the track of the future. Ambulance chasing media and legal identities are also highly culpable in the current appalling present situation.

I've had potentially life ending cancer twice (pancreatic and stomach/esophagus), plus potentially life-ending complications due to some incompetence from the Thai surgeons that removed my stomach. Luckily the great people at the PA in Brisbane managed to save me. When it's the choice between life and death, I can tell you, you will choose the surgeon who says there's a chance. Nothing to lose. Especially, when it's a surgeon as skilled as Charlie Teo. We already have a lack of medical professionals in Australia and to treat this amazing man with such disrespect is an indictment on the Australian medical establishment.

1998 the PA hospital refused to operate on my pancreas to do a whipples operation because they said it was too risky so clearly your experience was very different to mine. They were happy to send me away because my prognosis was apparently so poor. I managed to pay another doctor privately and I’m still here. I don’t think much of the PA hospital at all obviously.

Here to say one thing. On top of surgeries, Dr Teo also travels the globe for conferences and TEACH fellow neurosurgeons. Too many people see arrogance when they witness someone that is supremely confident in what they do. If the need arises where I require surgery of any kind let alone an area that is obviously much higher risk, then I want a surgeon that is supremely confident in what he/she is doing, regardless of his/her demeanor as their attitude will not save my life, it is only their knowledge and skills that will save my life.

It is true that for many of this brain tumor cases, most neurosurgeons would not have the confidence to undertake the challenge but Dr Teo does, even though he does not know how it may turn out and he knows the risks. At least there is a chance that the patient gets to live longer than the original prognosis, otherwise it is sure death. Thank you for making this video to show us the other side of the story.

So let him, in India... If they'll have them and allow him to practice, great! Clearly the numbers aren't adding up for Australia's National Healthcare System though. Some of us don't have a national health-care system to rely on and anything would be nice but demanding a certain surgeon/surgery seems like a bit too much privilege. Having had to make the choice to pull the plug to preserve dignity, I get it's not an easy decision but sometimes it's a decision you have to make. Bankrupting my family for brain surgery that has more risk than benefit is not in the cards and wouldn't be for most people have more brains than money.

It's a pure and undoubtedly simple case of "professional envy" , confidence is one thing, the knowledge retention and skill from it is something else altogether. Chris O'Brien and Charlie Teo's talent were undeniable yet the also ran's, the less talented chose to denigrate rather than emulate. Charlie Teo needn't answer to anyone, it's WE the public who are the ultimate arbiters of his performance, NOT his lesser cohorts.

This isn't his ego, ALL neurosurgeons have personalities that come off as arrogant at times because they are usually the smartest person in the room. This isn't his ego, it's the ego of all the other neurosurgeons. The money thing also bothers me because you can damn well bet other doctors have similar costs but for some reason the government and insurance companies aren't paying. I live in Ontario Canada and I have a rare genetic disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. There is a surgery on the neck that has helped people like me but no surgeon in Ontario will do the surgery. There was one surgeon who did it, with success in Toronto but 6/7 years ago he was sent to prison for killing his wife. We still don't have a surgeon willing to do this surgery and when we complain saying they haven't replaced this doctor they say they have a full staff and it's left those of us needing the surgery left in limbo.

This is typical of Australian health care system People should have the right to choose even if that means signing a waiver absolving him of the outcome Of course the man is arrogant he has a extremely difficult job to do. If he went into surgery a dithering idiot unsure of himself the outcome would be questionable Shame on Australia’s medical system for bullying a man not just in Au but globally

Its about saving as many lives as you can, not ego ffs!!!

I am glad that they leave their differences to the side n do their jobs i.e. "saving lives". So sad for Dr Theo as he saved alot of lives n now cannot work in his own Country Australia.

My mum died for an extremely aggressive brain tumor and I would have given anything to meet Dr Teo and give my mum a chance of life extension! I wish Dr Teo all the best and those agains him not so much! Harsh maybe but not harsh enough for what Dr Teo had to endure! I’ve had two spine surgeries in six months in 2016. For each operation my neurosurgeon and his team charged $86k alone, that is not including anything else. So my two surgeries were over $100k each. Also the reason for the second surgery was because my insurance deemed the third fusion and all that goes with it,unnecessary because I had “enough disc left”. So basically my insurance company was hopping that by the time surgery was needed for that third fusion, I would no longer have them as my insurance provider, that did not happen, as I had to have the second surgery six months later.

What happened to Charlie Teo is unfairness, injustices and assasination by jealousy and TALL POPPIE Syndrome. It’s real . Australian can’t handle someone’s incredible talents and doing great things . I was bullied by line managers and jealous colleagues in Australia work industry, they lied and covered their wrong doings and did character assassination on me. In the end , people know who is who , what is what , it’s all rooted from Tall Poppies Syndrome. It is disgusting mentality that you have to cut the shining star down , so that you could feel above and superior or at least you could feel a level- up, instead of Rise up mentality. Professional industry in Australia myself ( social worker) and Charlie Teo with Asian looks face jealousy, tall poppies syndrome and glass ceiling. we simple do our best , be our best , it’s inevitable that the work we do is so good and impactful, we are liked and appreciated by the service users. We are very ethical and wholeheartedly committed to our work and effective outcomes, which expose their unethical and poor performances , this piss colleagues and superiors off. Therefore,They want us gone . Shame on you those group of people framed on Charlie Teo and this is their loss .

Many doctors in the US will refuse to do a surgery, if they feel the odds are unfavorable, IE they will bring down their successful outcome stats, and will then affect the insurance rates they have to pay, to continue to practice. It’s obscene the extent to which profit motive and fear tactics so severely restrict patients’ available scope of options
