Carra’s comments about his emotions around Klopp leaving basically mirror my own. When the news broke i was devastated (on my birthday as well). But over the next couple of days i actually began to feel pretty optimistic. Klopp is leaving the team in such a good position regardless of what we may or may not win this season. There’s a great balance in the team at the moment with a good mix of world class experienced players, and younger prospects coming through who are hungry to prove their metal. If Klopp had left at the end of last season i would have been worried. But he didn’t. He stayed and managed the overhaul of our beleaguered midfield, got the team firing on all cylinders again, and departs a Liverpool legend, leaving behind an exciting team ready to be taken to perhaps even greater heights by whomever comes in and replaces him. Thank you Jurgen, you did what most considered impossible and allowed us to dream again. For that, you will forever have the undying love and gratitude of every Liverpool supporter around the globe.

No! Alonso will be to Klopp what Souness was to Paisley. Liverpool always carried on their philosophy from within one Shankly-Paisley-Fagan-Dalglish Then we recruited a former player from outside, Souness and he brought a different philosophy and culture to his old club. It was the beginning of the end. We need to offer Pep Lijnders the job to carry on the philosophy

@@edmundpower1250i disagree did fagan or dalglish win more than paisley. Bob was our best manager by a country mile not just in accolades but in the time he did it all in. I think alonso will be fine it might take a full season and so it should but i think we are in safe hands. Unlike souness he has a ready made team that is still mostly young and at the top of their game and can only get better in my eyes. Souness was unlucky aswell as making too many rash decisions in regarding players he bought although im nearly sure he gave robbie fowler his 1st match. He won a league cup in the 3 years he was there and had major heart surgery in between too. It was the interview with the sun about winning the league cup and his heart surgery that finished him as the sun delayed releasing it until the hillsborough anniversary which didnt go down well considering the suns standing in liverpool. Sorry about the long winded story but souness gets a lot if flack for his time as liverpool manager and most is unfair.

@@edmundpower1250 Souness failing at Liverpool had nothing to do with a change in culture or philosophy. He simply wasn't a good manager and his terrible signings were the main reason for his failure. If Liverpool hire Alonso, then their playing style will undoubtedly change, that much is true. Liverpool's playing style also changed between Shankly and Paisley though. Lijnders is already confirmed as leaving and having him as Liverpool manager would be a monumental mistake in my opinion.

If Klopp gets us to all three finals he will have managed Liverpool for 496 games, which would be beautiful, and whoever is writing the script is being ambitious. We could play Leverkusen in the Europa final too, imagine if the only game Bayer lose is against us. There is a long way to go and it might not happen, but right now we can dream. My thoughts exactly: Xabi could makes us technically better. He would definitely sort our midfield and I don't think he would hang on to underperforming/crocked players for as long as Jk has. That being said, we will still have the same 'thrifty' owners. Personally think Xabi would be the only viable alternative at this juncture and losing one of our best ever managers. LFC - and FSG - NEED Xabi Alonso.

When Klopp joined us, I remember worrying. Yes, he'd done it at Dortmund but with no disrespect to the Bundesliga, apart from Bayen, who else is there? I wondered if we had another duff but obviously I was wrong (thank God). Alonso has similar footsteps and plays great football so he will be perfect in my opinion. I think we could improve even because how often are we worried when teams attack us? Alonso would change the formation to cope. I do think he is already ours because why would Klopp's team go as well? Alonso want's his guys in.

That first game at Bolton. Molby was always my favourite player and from Xabi's first touches they looked like the same player and I got very excited. Always remember Andy Gray trying to criticise him "every ball this guy's tried has been the most difficult one on the pitch" while failing to mention that every one found its target inch perfectly.

I would love Alonso. However, we’ll need to be patient if he does indeed get the job. We may lose players in the summer, we’ll certainly recruit heavily, so there may be a period of 1. New players becoming used to the club and expectations 2. Alonso embedding his style. Three centre-backs and two wing backs, should he bring his Leverkusen methodology with him directly, will be a sea change from the way in which we play 4-4-3. He’s destined for big things and I hope we nail him down before the end of the season on a pre-contract, as I feel that Madrid will be looking towards him to replace Carlo…

The main difference between Xabis 3-4-3 and klopps 4-3-3 is that instead of the Dm dropping between the Cb’s, he just always has a player there, and his wide forwards tend to play narrower. It’s not the world of difference you seem to think

Hope he joins. For me he has the potential to better Klopp. Klopp has been amazing but his record in finals is quite poor. 1 Champions League out of 3, lost europa final, etc. Failed to beat a not great Chelsea team in 2 separate finals only winning on penalties (a lottery). Had two very poor seasons. Twice failed to beat their main rival (Man City) at home then went on to lose the league by 1 point in both seasons. Only 1 league title in his time. Carragher is right to say we should have won more during this period. Klopp has a style that gets blood from a stone or is akin to flogging a horse, which is why we have had very poor drop off seasons. The players were spent. I think Alonso has the potential the be less emotionally frantic and more sustainable that will see the team be able to be consistent over longer periods. Seems to be more efficient. Klopps style also injures alot of players or maybe he just buys injury prone players. Take Alisson for example, I've rarely seen a first choice keeper get injured so often. Jota is another who is injury prone., as well as Curtis Jones.

Carragher is right, in an ideal world Alonso would have a few more seasons, trophies and champions league experience under his belt. Though, there are very few managers available right now that will come close to replacing Klopp. It will be cool if Bayer Leverkusen and Liverpool meet in the Europa League final, Klopp v Xabi Klopp has a win at all costs mentality, if Xabi can bring that, it’s already a good start. He also seems to be a tactician and has a decent style of play, he is one of very few managers who will also fit the culture of Liverpool FC, good guy who can relate to the fans well and pretty used to winning football matches. As long as Conte, Mourinho or Simone don’t come in lol

The thing thats really interesting to me from what I've seen of Leverkusen is they have the systematic triangles and short passing movements that are the signature of Guardiola's style, but they also have a level of situational freedom that allows them to adapt to whatever the opposition is doing a bit similar to Ancelotti. A sign of a good manager is a clearly defined style and Alonso's influences are blatant in the best possible way.

Klopp is a great manager who elevate his players to new higher level and ceiling. Pep is a good tactician who needs expensive technical players to make his tactic work. But Xabi maybe even better. Xabi create a system that suit his players and then coach his players to make good decisions. Decision-making is so important but overlooked by whatever reasons, mostly by standard excuse like "the players are professionals who know their jobs". But if you watch any Xabi's team play, what really impressive is how his players make good decisions as a team most of the time on the pitch. It is not their superior techniques (like in Pep's team), or high octane stamina (in Klopp's team), but their strikingly on point decisions of what to do in what situation. It looks flawless and easy, but can only happen because Xabi create the system and coach his players about it.

@kirky8271 I keep saying it, Pep Lijnders. I can't believe FSG aren't seeing this. It would keep a continuity at the club, him and Matos are mostly responsible for the academy kids being brought through, he is the one who suggests most of the tactical tweaks during games, he can mix it up with opposition benches, he deals very well with the media, and he would stay loyal. Plus he understands the transfer policy at the club. Even if Alonso came in and did do well we all know Real Madrid will go for him in 2 years when Carlo leaves. Something just feels wrong with Alonso, he isn't the right fit after Klopp.

I see in this comment section there are people don’t want Alonso as our manager. I get it. But what if Alonso is that gifted brain like pep and mourinho? Coaching seems natural to them, then Madrid or Bayern take that gamble by signing Alonso and turns out Alonso is 1 of those gifted coaches? Then you’ll say we should’ve signed Alonso. I remember there were many fans didn’t want klopp too when that time klopp already a proven manager. And their reasons were ridiculous . Once again those “fans” wanted klopp to be sacked last season when we were having a bad patch. Even the best who has won us trophies these so called “fans” they wanted him to be sacked. That tells you everything about these “fans” . I am not sure if those were really Liverpool fans 😂. Maybe just trolling. I stopped listening to these clowns long time ago 🤣. For me Alonso is a real deal and thankfully most of our fans think so too. Even if he’s a gamble , he’s a calculated risk to take

@@dickymint9908I don't want him to leave either but he wants his own managerial career and there's no way he could take on Liverpool as basically his first job other than being relegated from the eredivisie.

Surely Alonso will stay at least one more season where he is? I can't see him abandoning HIS SQUAD/TEAM before he see's what they can do in the Champions League??? I hope I'm wrong but I think is Alonso is the MAN we will have to get an intern and wait???

There are still reasons why Alonso won't come to Liverpool, mentioned here is a good one,.. he might want to see Bayern Leverkusen in the Champions League, that's a good reason, then there is a chance he goes somewhere else, maybe Bayern Munich, maybe Barcelona, maybe Man Utd,.. nobody knows right now other than Alonso.. I think as soon as this season ends for the Prem, and Alonso is free to talk, then we will know.

Man it’s all everyone gossips about. I really hope we don’t get Alonso just yet….he too rookie….liverpool too big a job for him now I think. If he gets it back him but he could ruin his good work just like Stevie , jumping in the prem so early…..sure arteta doing ok now….but arsenal backed him after finishing 8th 9th…..not sure Liverpool will be happy to drop to 8th n 9th for the next two or three seasons….. Fsg will get it right I’m sure.
