I think the difference is visible in almost every scene. The bright areas simply have more detail / delineation and less prone to clipping. It is very subtle but it is there. I like it! ❤🎉 Excellent video btw. Thank you so much!

Thanks for doing this. I was hoping for a bigger difference, seems to be minor changes in the tone mapping.

Can you comment on what settings you had for the playback? Auto-normal vs auto-wide? Aperature setting? Laser power?

Thanks for the overview. When doing side by side, I think a mirrored image is more effective when trying to compare. Something to look at.

Cool video, showing the update process. For the comparison, how does it compare to MADVR Envy?
@eubikedude Жыл бұрын
I know it might be a lot of work, but any chance of redoing it with one of the sides mirrored? That way you can see the same bit side by side in the centre for an easier comparison? Some of the scenes almost looked like there was a different sharpening setting (not saying there was) where the old versions looked less smooth/blockier but brighter. I preferred the smoother FA2. I use high-res 2 on mine (NZ8) but with enhance at 10 for this reason, that seems smoother yet more detailed than the other sharpening modes.

I have the NZ8 as well and was hoping for a bit more improvement from this “big” firmware update. Let’s see how it looks in real life soon. Thanks for the preview.

That looks like it's going to be ridiculously fantastic!! Thanks for capturing and sharing the process, especially the design adjustments that you factored in along the way and what helped to drive them. BTW, can you share please the rack ears you used to mount your madVR Envy MK1? I'm planning to move my gear into a rack soon and haven't had much luck finding clean pair of rack ears for the MK1 - yours look great in the quick glimpse I got when you He-Manned that rack up off the floor!

Great video, Michael if you don’t mind, I have a question. I’ve recently purchased a JVCNZ7 projector. I noticed that when I switch over to HDR10 on filmmaker mode when the fan switches over to high, the picture takes on an almost luminescent red quality. The only way for me to correct this was to reduce the hue feature from 0 to 10. I also had to reduce the saturation slider from 0 to -5. By any chance, did you have a similar experience. Is this normal?

It has now been going on three years since JVC released these projectors! When will they be releasing NEW Projectors?

They typically come out with a new series every 3 years so I would guess either this year or 2025 at the latest.

Hey Michael, I noticed you used the JVC DILA 8K demo content. Wouldn't this demo disc be pre-tone mapped to best show off their projectors capabilities rather than relying on the internal tone-mapping? I don't know for sure, but might be my guess as to why there is no difference. Might be better to use some 10k nit Spears and Musil content or something of that effect.
@Youthman Жыл бұрын
That’s a great question. I’m not sure to be honest. I didn’t realize you could have pre-tone mapped content on a disk. The difficulty now is, I’ve already made the firmware update, so I can’t compare to the old.
@Macroproxy Жыл бұрын
@Youthman Yes, just like a MadVR can output the tone-mapped content to your projector, any disc could be tone-mapped to the purpose of fitting a projectors capabilities.
@Youthman Жыл бұрын
Hey Joe, I just checked with JVC. That disk is from mystery box, so it was not tone mapped for JVC.
@Macroproxy Жыл бұрын
@Youthman Did they tell you what the HDR metadata was (peak brightness)? You can probably see this info with your Envy. I assume you turned the Envy processing off for this... I'm not familiar with Mystery Box, so they could still be picking the content based on that, whilst it being true they didn't doctor it. (forgive my healthy distrust of marketing)
@Youthman Жыл бұрын
They said “The JVC material was edited at 1000 nits but not customized to our projector. This is why I suggested you look at some 4000 nit material and see if you can see the difference. It may be more prevalent.”

Interested in checking out the new 0-100 light output setting on my NZ9. But as nice as the DTM improvements may be, it won't take me away from my Lumagen with latest beta firmware handling DTM. Great for those who can't justify an outboard DTM solution though.
@michelegrassi3492 Жыл бұрын
I would be interested in your opinion, try NZ9 without the Lumagen and let us know what differences you saw
@Youthman Жыл бұрын
That would be a good comparison. I’ll likely be comparing my NZ8 with MadVR Envy to see how each handles DTM.
@chairmannow2297 Жыл бұрын
@@michelegrassi3492 Kris Deering has had the beta of the JVC firmware for a while now. He works closely with both JVC and Lumagen. If you check out his comments on AVSForum, you'll see he says it's a good improvement but still a long way from the capabilities of the latest Lumagen beta software DTM. I'm not going to be worrying about doing any DTM comparisons for myself when we have industry pros like Kris doing it for us.
