I believe he came to Nepal to get suggestions from his uncle Usman. Who suggested him to surrender along with his family and he agreed. He renewed his family's Indian passports. As his family was in Pakistan,he was returning to Pakistan to recollect his family so that he could surrender to GOVT along with his family. But unluckily he got caught with 10 renewed passports on Nepal. Once Indian ambassy heard the surname MEMON they instantly went to the airport and pressurized Nepal GOVT to hide this matter. As they couldn't catch the big fish his brother Tiger Memon. They started trial against Yakub memon. 10 renewed passports and cassettes recorded against Tiger Memon and ISI proves that he was ready to surrender and help the Indian government to get the real conspirators. But he was victimized and trial started against himself. Also it was authenticated that audio cassettes were also found along with the 10 passport. But during trial those cassettes were not showcased in court as those cassettes were having evidence against his brother tiger memon and ISI proving that Yakub is not involved. It happened because our agency was not able to catch Tiger Memon so they made Yakub the victim. And sentenced him hang till death.

If Yakub was innocent why didn't he produce the evidence correctly before court. If you listen his interview to Doordarshan, u can notice he was pretending like an innocent telling lie and trying to make the interviewer fool. Truth is he was homesick & wanted to return his home city Mumbai where he had spent his young time and didn't get courage, in this situation he caught by Nepal police.

Who cares how and where he was caught, or bigger fish was not caught, it does not mean he was innocent! They were all involved, and more will be caught. What the court did was the right thing to do! Showing leniency towards the criminals who has no regard for human life must get strict punishment. We are creating sympathy towards criminals and ignoring the sufferers of the family members! Here, and in other criminal cases, Lord Krishna's rule from Bhagwad Geeta is more applicable and not Lord Buddha's. Prophet Mohammad would have advised the death sentence for sure, if we get religious law involved!
