The best feature of this UST projector is that it is 3-chip, which guarantees absolutely no hateful headache-inducing rainbow effect artifact (RBE). By comparison, the rest of the (more expensive) UST flotsam out there are all single-DLP, which will always mean unpredictable RBE. Some people will immediately criticize this projector as "fake" 4k (one wonders why instead of just double FHD like in the 5050, did epson not go whole hog by shifting the pixels 4-way to really get the 8 million pixels of UHD as done in the 12000). IMHO though, "fake" 4k or pixel-shifted 4k is an infinitely lesser evil if put alongside and compared with true 4k single-DLP, the latter with its pukey 1920s-era sequential-color RBE-spewing technology. The unpredictability of RBE is why professional settings (like cinemas) will never ever use single-chip projectors; they use 3-chip exclusively. That is why this 3-LCD UST epson can really claim to be cinema-like, which none of any pukey trashy expensive single-DLP with their massive amounts of RBE can throw a stick at. @@AIBotnot The colors may individually be purer and better but there is no escaping the miserable truth about single-DLP: it has to necessarily use sequential color, and therefore prone to rainbow effect (RBE). It does NOT have to be single-DLP. If there is 3-LCD, there is also 3-DLP. But the company behind DLP has priced its imaging chips sky-high, such that 3-DLP can only be found in professional projectors in cinemas. It is, in a way, understandable that home projectors are single-DLP; if companies used 3-DLP there is no way they can price the projectors below maybe $20k. So as single-DLP, sequential color has to be resorted to, with its attendant RBE. Single-DLP projectors have some sophisticated specs: ALPD, discrete laser (one each R, G, B), etc but IMHO all that is equivalent to applying lipstick on a pig: it will not take away the need for sequential color, which is a quaint 1920s-era technology, to reproduce color, and spew RBE along with it.

These projectors do not have black at all. It will drive you nuts after a while. No black bars on different ratio films just a horrible grey! Looks like an early LCD TV. You need a blacked-out room for ANY real contrast at all. This screen helps a bit in lighter rooms but to get any real contrast you need a blacked-out room.

Not that we know of, but you would have to intentionally put your eyes in front of it. If you have small children, it is probably better to wait until they are a little older

After further review, there is a safety feature that will automatically cut the light from the lens when it detects motion in front of it. So you can easily turn that feature on and not have to worry about anyone looking into the light.

Hi, do you know how to set-up sleep mode for this projector? There is only sleep timer that needs to be set everytime again. Or am I missing something?

In the settings you are able to set the screensaver time. The shortest amount of time is 15 minutes. You can choose between a screensaver or a blank screen. Also, make sure you've installed the latest update.

@@weikra2023 It's fortunate that most people are not sensitive to hateful RBE, or can learn to ignore it. If you don't see RBE, and will be the sole user of a single-DLP projector, good. However when a crowd gathers in front of that wretched single-DLP projector, some individuals will be more frustratingly sensitive to RBE than others. This unpredictability is why from day one, cinemas have and will never ever use any single-chip projector, lest they get sued for the potential headaches RBE will foist on those sensitive to it. In that regard, this LS800 projector's 3-LCD is a VERY big deal, IMHO much more important than its other attributes like laser, UST, and "fake" 4k.

Did you say it comes with an ALR screen? Because on Epson's website they are listed separately and Epson is sending you to amazon to buy the screen for USD 3k!!!! almost the cost of the projector itself (listed as USD 3.5k). That's more expensive than the vividstorm motorized floor rising screen and significantly more expensive than other UST/ALR screen bundles like the Hisense. I am a big fan of projectors and will never go back to small screens, but we already have ~100inch TVs under 10k (like the TCL 98-inch QLED). Surely the UST manufacturers must know the writing is on the wall. Unlike front projectors that will always have a market due to people with dedicated treated space, USTs will be a really hard sell if 100 inch TVs for ~5/6K become a norm...

The only reason why it has faltered is because of greed from company's making TV's and projectors trying to get more money by charging exorbitant prices for active glasses. They can incorporate passive 3d technology in their display devices and passive glasses work with 3d, they don't have batteries and work about as good as actives. And yes, Epson(which I love and have their projector currently), Optoma, Benq, Samsung and Sony are just some of the main ones that have done this. 3d is not dead, it just needs to be renvisioned on purpose instead of profit.

I still do not understand why 3d is not available in tv market. Friends and family keep being amazed here and often get reactions that it looks better than in a cinema. I want 3d too. Will have to go with a projector too.

There are actually two things to be considered here where ARC is concerned. First, projectors have traditionally always been a video-only device. It's considered swankier than a TV, and people setting up one will nearly always pair it with equally bombastic sound that can only come with an AVR and dedicated set of surround speakers. IMHO Epson should NOT have even bothered including the yamaha 2.1ch speakers on it; that would have made it cheaper. That there is even ARC is a nice thought. Second, ARC is useful for introducing audio taken off whatever is being streamed from any of the apps on the LS800, to a connected AVR. But virtually all streamed programs I have ever viewed only had at most 5.1 dolby digital, which ARC can comfortably output. eARC would have been nice, but I don't think streamed sources will ever feature DTS-HD Master Audio or Dolby TrueHD or atmos soon, which will require eARC.

Why do you compare projectors with tv's ? And there's other projectors out there providing almost if not the same service. Tv's will always be more expensive, I feel it's like comparing a bike to a car...All in all it's great projector.

I love the photo shop stretched images kind of showing 2.35 ratio screen. In your dreams! These projectors do NOT have blacks, you will get grey. Lots of info about games but try a film made for 24 FPS. Judder and or artifacts, your choice. To get any kind of dark detail you must have a near blacked out room. Dolby vision only partly works because of a poor dynamic range. It's a big picture for sure, quality no. 4K..no. better choice O led. If size is the main factor, it may be OK but if quality of picture is important, this is NOT the answer, or any other short throw projector. Make sure you get a demo before you buy. Take a flash drive with you showing a film with lots of dark scenes and fast-moving objects, don't watch the standard demonstration shots with lots of bright slow-moving scenes where everything looks wonderful.

There are definitely trade offs when you want a 120" immersive screen like this. However, it can be hard to portray brightness on a projector through a camera and we can say it looks better in person.

As Audio Advice says it looks better in person than on the video. I have the LS500 and it works great for living room area. Blacks are not great though.

8 year old chipset, no HDMI 2.1 with full bandwidth, no ULLM, no 4K@120hz, no eARC.... utter rubbish and waste of money at that price point.
