So now Suri is hitting across the line of the ball , not through the line of the ball - essential to learn flat , modicum of topspin first as a basis -- ie thru the line of 4 balls from inside/out - this SOUND BASIC SWING has always been the fundamental bedrock of all good players - including Murray Federer Djokovic Henin Serena etc etc . Yes topspin is added when ball trajectory , positions on court and shot selection dictate - here the right-side of body racket positions ( 5 o'clock etc) are NATURALLY ASSUMED , but to go ,as in video , straight to these positions is wrong

Can someone please explain the cocked up wrist at the 5:30 position. No pro player does that and its very confusing to look at.

It’s an attempt to crest a lag to load the racquet to be pulled forward. Some players do this, some don’t. There’s no right or wrong technique at the pro level, it really depends on the individual.

@@SuhanislifeinEurope unit turn was the problem , now i get to know , spacing is so important as i was not having enough gap between the body and arms while hitting my forehand.

Rick you did a great job, I would add one small thing. A question of "why?" Why do WTA players do loops? Why almost all men play this "correct" way? Why is there a difference? Because what you try to say is that ATP knows it, WTA are not that smart, which is totaly wrong. Even as a guy I have to admit that WTA is way more competative than ATP, simply more better players starting from juniors, while boys mostly choose tennis if they are not great at other sports (shots fired but it is true for the most part). So yeah back to the question of why. Girls, specially little girls dont have snappy wrists, and yes they can shadow stroke this modern forehand and even make the racquet sound, but not on the court, not in a real tournament, where guys come late and make loop over head with just a flick of their wrist on the forehand a girl will barely push the ball. That is why they make these huge swings, they want to hit harder. I myself have 7-8yo girls with the exact same "problem" and I teach them that once they become very good their backswing will stay on the same side all the way for the most part, but while theyre small and weak its simply as effective as trying to make play a 7yo with 1h BH and watch him/her struggle.

You made some awesome points. As a tennis coach of 20 years, women are built different and they have to leverage different muscles to produce the same amount of power that most boys can produce with much less effort. That's why I include strength training in my lessons to bridge the gap.

Thanks so much for great comment, so would you go with ATP BH for 10 yo girl or would try Rick's way for BH. Tx

Amazin info, thanks. Very cool to see that such mature master promotes ATP backhand for girls, in my academy they still do it more traditionally with some looping behind (for intermid level) Do you know who on WTA has this modern BH? to get good example.

A terrible instructor just talks for the entire lesson. I see idiot parents doing this every day. SHOW her the swing positions while giving instruction. She has to EXPERIENCE each facet of the game. She’ll discover things WHILE she is playing. This is TERRIBLE instruction. She CANT learn watching Macci. She has to PLAY and FEEL the strike HERSELF. She also can’t learn to hit without FEEDBACK (ball going in the net? Or out?) Also why is he talking to her about Dimitrov? This instruction is terrible. This is why Macci doesn’t produce champions.

Disagree with this teaching method, quite disappointed. There is a reason why WTA women do it their way, there are gender differences.

Thing is there isn’t really a wta technique, every player is different and has slightly different style and technique. Ultimately the most important thing is that the stroke works and is reproducible
