A lot of people can’t admit it, but Slipknot is something special. This footage was 2001, just 2 years into the bands career (officially) and the crowd they drew at this show was phenomenal. So much energy. So much passion. 2001 was the prime of Slipknot and they were still fresh out the gate. Thank you to the 9 that have shared their stories for us to enjoy.

@A smile on my face but a Demon inside I dont understand the need of comparing them now to how they were 20 years ago. It's so obvious that they wouldn't be the same young energetic guys and consequently would create different songs after playing for so long. I mean, I'm so glad that i could enjoy them when they were still very young (and that i STILL can, tru videos like this), and that i can enjoy the same musicians doing their stuff nowadays, after so many years of experiences and maturing (i'm talking about the band and about me too). Everything changes, nothing stays the same.. even we are not the same we used to be like 5 years ago, and we can't change this fact, now imagine after 20 years. Imo people that only avaliate their "actual era" tru the lens of comparison to "IOWA's era" are "missing the ride", and they are being a bit ungrateful and unfair to the band, because, despite the (natural) changes in the band's sound, saying that their last album is not top notch is a joke in very bad taste.
@AxLWake3 жыл бұрын
I saw them in Belgium when they toured for the self titled album and a bit later when Iowa came out. It definitely WAS something special. And Slipknot gave me the taste for aggressive music, more aggressive than the usual nu-metal that was very popular at the time. It lead me to discover death metal and other "extreme" metal genres. I still like what they do. It's not as "fresh" as when the first two record came out (obviously), but they still kick ass.

I was lucky enough to see them three nights after this in Iowa. We drove across Iowa to the show, lost twelve of our nine lives, and had an eight hour drive back to college that night. I only had on underwear and one sock (everything else had been ripped apart at the show and the other sock was used to apply pressure to a friend’s shoulder gash), and drove the whole way back like that while stopping constantly to vomit. Both of my eyebrows were cut open and sagging and I found out later that my nose and several ribs were broken. It was the greatest night of my life.

It was like all my xmas’s came at once. The raw intensity and atmosphere in the venue was astounding. This was a special time for Slipknot and one we will never see again. My Dad was initially skeptical of Slipknot like most Parents were at that time but as a musician for 50 years himself and has seen countless gigs, he admitted that he has never seen such a tight, impressive, explosive show in his life.

This is Slipknot. This right here. This was not a band to us, but an entity, a carnal experience, almost religious. The atmosphere, the pain, the hypnotic chaos throughout it all. The mysterious hellraiseresque air that surrounded them made it feel like they were not entirely human, experiencing them live was like being stuck in a weird kind of fever dream. We could completely forget about all the shit around us and be invested in this. Anyhow, that's how I see it. I saw them at the Ozzfest 99’ PIne Knob Amphitheater. They were on a stage set off in a group of trees on the backside of the amphitheater’s main hill. So secondary stage, you would’ve thought that it was Ozzy himself getting ready to play at the stage. Group of people I was with, from what I can remember none of us knew who slipknot was before that day. We definitely left there, knowing who they were. I think we were there because of tool mostly, so this band was a big surprise. They came out and did their thing, and it was intense, well executed, great metal playing. The style of music was never really my cup of tea, but I do respect it and was blown away by the performance. Still remember it to this day. I have seen every major artist of my era you can think of other than Michael Jackson and Prince in person and slipknot ranks right up there at the very top.

Their debut album cover just looked heavy. No mystery. I discovered them in 1999 at an H&M record store when the album was fresh off the shelves. I was 13 years old and I remember taking this album home being blown away how aggressive and angry it was. The album holds up so well in 2023 and aged very well. It was a breath of fresh air because 1999 was peaking with Nu Metal (Limp Bizkit, Korn), and Slipknot drew a clear distinction. Corey Taylor has one of the best sounding and broad ranging heavy metal voices of all time. 1999- 2001 was peak Slipknot. Hands down. They were crazy hungry to make a name for themselves and they did. Unfortunately, I only saw them in 2008 which was good but I can’t imagine it being close to this. Their tune changed with Subliminal Verses. It had a much more mainstream appeal. Production wasn’t as raw and heavy but way more refined. This is why their first two albums hold such a special place. No other albums come close to them.

They where addicting to watch back then i seen them like 6 times in a few years. They actually toured a lot in there first few years and it made it amazing to see them then a few months later see them again. Also back then most of them would hang out and talk to there fans outside. Between all the shows and multiple times meeting members and meeting different members during each concert helped make the experience what it was. I met Cory, Chris, Paul, joey, Jim and Shaun. At the time being a teenager and meeting your favorite band and them being such cool people only mad my concert addiction even worse.i can never forget the day i wore a mask i made and was wearing it before the concert and chris came up to me and complemented me on the mask then said hey Cory come check this out. Cory was wearing a black shirt with the venom spider on it and his hat you always see him wear. 20 years later I’m starting a mask company and almost done with my first mask sculpt and listening to the music that always inspired my art and help make it what it is. Now my goal is to make a mask that one of them will wear on stage. Thanks for this awesome footage.

My dad took me to this exact show. I was a freshman in high school. Fun watching this back I can remember it vividly. But Minnesota band American Head Charge was also A+ that night.

I was at this concert and I witnessed greatness. This was music that put words to how we felt and we all knew early on that Slipknot was unique and was going to be huge. This was them in their prime and at their most controlled. They perfected their live performances during the IOWA years.
