In short: - mammals ( including humans) and birds produce hypertonic ( conc. ) Urine - counter current mechanism helps in it - major roles of vasa recta and loop of Henle - flow of filtrate in opposite direction in ascending and descending limb of vasa recta and loop of Henle, so called counter(opposite) current ( flow). - in descending limb ( going downward) Of vasa recta- Na and cl ions move inside it. Of loop of henle- Na ions move inside and water move outside ( in interstitial fluid) ( Making filtrate conc.) - In ascending limb ( going upward) Of vasa recta - Na and cl ions ( NaCl) move outside Of loop of Henle- Na and Cl move outside and water move inside ( Making filtrate dilute) - in collecting duct Urea and water move out to make urine conc. - osmolality of cortex - 300 osmol/L - osmolality of medulla - 1200 osmol/L - purpose of counter current mechanism- to make the interstitial fluid ( or medulla ) conc. So that water can come out due to diffusion and conc. Urine would be produced. ( Prevention of water loss) NaCl cannot remain in interstitial because they can move in the cortex due to diffusion ( low concentrations of it in cortex) so that's why first they move in the tubule then come out. That's what I understood from today's class, thank you mam for clearing my previous year doubt.

Like many others even I speculated that Ma'am made a mistake as NCERT says something else, but then I read NCERT thoroughly word by word and Realised she couldn't have been any more correct than she is already. Don't worry and believe every word uttered by her, she knows her stuff really well.

@navanithravi4064 жыл бұрын
As it is hypo tonic as compared to outer so the water from it diffuses into the medulla

The ascending Vasa rectae is impermeable to water but only for sodium and chloride ions and they come out due to difference in tonicity, and to maintain ionic balance ( to make it isotonic to the nephric filtrate),the NA+ and cl- ions come out!
