Hi, thanks. for sharing. I made the change from Android to iPhone in 2006. I have come to appreciate the Apple ecosystem ease of use for instance I use my iPhone to create KZbin videos and my iMac to edit and post videos to social media sites such as KZbin. I rely on the Apple voiceover accessibility feature for all my day-to-day communication needs. With iOS 17 magnifier updates, I find the iPhone magnifier, capable and easily accessed for my basic needs. Reading, product labels, etc. Make it a great day. Stay safe and again thanks for the informative content and sharing of opinions and ideas.

I'm still using iphone 6. I would also still be using my iphone 4 for some older apps, but it started having something weird going on with it starting back in October I think. I think it is completely full and I have to troubleshoot it at some point, before attempting a battery change in it. I think the battery still works though, it just doesn't have room to fully reboot. That battery worked fine for eleven years! I like the extra space I have on the iphone 6. I also still have a Cellularone with Moblie Speaks on it. In an emergency I could pop it's SIM card back in. It's battery door has always been flimsy, and I had to tape it on, even with the second door replacement.I liked that I could get it to read brf files with mobile speaks, and how I could just drag and drop things into and out of it on a PC. iOS and apps with iphone have been big game changers for me.

i really love this video! it was a great conversation. carrie, the oneplus phones are the android phones with the physical mute switch on them. i just got the oneplus 9 and i love everything about it except for the fact that talkback doesn't have multi finger gestures. i wonder how long google and samsung are going to keep that an exclusive feature to their phones. it was a serious bummer and now i'm considering returning the phone just because of that.

Yes, I remember setting out with no phone, and just my long white stick, two rolls of quarters, and maybe eight index cards with phone numbers of people I might call in an emergency from a pay phone, somewhere I remembered discovering. I regularly wore a giant backpack with all my survival contingency plans if stranded.

Hi Carrie, I loved the discussion all of you had a few weeks ago about Android Vs Apple. I use both and keep using an Iphone because I have used one since the iPhone 3GS. I have family and friend who use IPhone or other Apple Products and like the Fact I can iMessage or FaceTime Audio or Video anyone across the whole platform or Apple Ecosystem. I do like the Zoom capabilities on Android and TalkBack but like Voiceover as well. I use or rely on Zoom features more than a Screen Reader as I have quite a bit of vision so use TalkBack if I want to know the time or battery percentage or read a long article. You provide a grate Resource on Accessibility or allot of non Apple Accessibility. I love all your channels. There are resources for those who are interested in Android or looking at a more affordable option than Apple, podcasts like Blind Tech Guys and Bind Droid Users from all different areas of the world such as India where Android Accessibility is more available and affordable and non Apple Accessibility in general in many parts of the world. It is easier know to find more info and tutorials such as your channel and Sam's then it was say a few years back. A word about Face I.D. on IPhone it works for me half the time and most of the time Input a code as I either hold the phone to far from my face or to close. I prefer touch I D. Oh, one last word for those interested in Android i.e. Google stick with a Google Pixel phones for stock features and latest updates. OnePlus I think is good as well, maybe few other brands but stock with stock Android as much as possible for good Accessibility and reliable updates. Again I like both platforms but use an Iphone daily. I have a Pixel 4a also which is good and a heck of allot cheaper as I buy any phone outright and unlocked and pay it off over time or quickly as I can and sale olde phones I don't need or have a use for. Anyway great discussion.

Hi Aaron! I'm glad that you enjoyed the livestream a few weeks ago. It was definitely a fun little conversation about both platforms. I really like android, but as you might have seen in a few ofmy latest streams, I have been delving into the world of apple. We'll see. I'm thinking about getting an iPad and trying that because I don't know for what reason, the iPhone just seems so small for me. I mean, i'ts really not that much smaller than my pixel 4a 5g, but for some reason, I don't like the screen as much. Or maybe I'm just having trouble adjusting. haha. I do want to have both worlds though. I think its great that people can use both and that accessibility can go further because there is competition. Hopefully both keep getting better!

I hate I missed this live. I’m a huge Pixel fan as well, but have been branching out into iOS with an iPad. The gestures are so similar navigation wise, that it was an easy swap for the most part. I’m still learning Zoom and VoiceOver though, so I can’t compare those to Magnifier and Talkback. I LOVE Magnifier though. I often try to triple tap things that aren’t my phone. 😂

Hey live accessible I noticed on my Samsung phone after getting the new talkback update that there are more unlabeled buttons and Google Chrome does not work properly there are a lot of things that don’t read or or have a big delay have you experienced this the old talkback in my opinion seems more stable and more user-friendly

@@LiveAccessible in Samsung phones talk back is default so you cannot change it back to the original Google talk back it uses the same version of talkback that’s on pixel phones what the problem is since it’s running on Samsung‘s platform it must have issues with the way it communicates with talk back

Apple user here and I will go on record. I don't know how many times I have use dictation to input text went to double tap to end dictation and instead of ending dictation it started playing music then I have to swipe home get on my home screen double tap again to get it to shut up the music go back into whatever app I was in trying to put text and only to double tap again to actually get it to input the text, this problem alone has made me start looking at an android also from what I have understood even with talk back buying a better more expensive phone tends to make the experience better now I could be completely wrong on this, as I have never owned, android as a blind person, but that tends to be what I'm gathering

The new android gestures are cumbersome to say the least. Only a small percent of users are in A11. For the rest, the new swipe gestures aren't useful for single handed usage carry. For example, I want to browse while having a coffee. It's just frustrating now. What r your thoughts on high refresh rate displays? Do they improve talkbacks performance? You have a nice voice carry. Thanks.
@johndyer
@johndyer 3 жыл бұрын
but the good thing about the new gestures is that you can customize them to be whatever. so i have a set of one-handed gestures and a set of multi-finger gesture so whether i'm using it one-handed or not i can still do everything i want to.

I am an iOS user I’d like the ecosystem but I tried android a while back I think it was a Samsung I think it was running jellybean and it was OK but I just couldn’t get the gestures probably because I was so used to voice over as opposed to talk back. However this is not an Accessible issue this is just an observation that Google translate is so much superior To the Apple translate feature in fact I have the Google translate on my iPhone and I don’t even bother using Apple‘s translator. If I were to try android again which is better Samsung or the Google pixel and which is more accessible for visually impaired people especially somebody like myself who is totally blind.I really enjoyed the video thanks much gale and guys.

One of my beefs with facial ID is with my visual impairment I am holding the phone practically up to my nose. So as soon as the ID thing gets triggered it fails because my face is too close. Then I have to move it back but now I can't see the screen well. And I can go back and forth like that. And then it doesn't work because there have been too many attempts:😢

Haha. That's my same exact frustration with Face ID on my iPhone. I do that same dance, too! I've just been trying to train myself that if I need to unlock, I have to start with the phone away from my face. It is really counter intuitive though, so I totally empathize! Kerry is learning talk about gestures harder than VoiceOver because I’ve sort of nail VoiceOver and I really wanna have a go at Talkback but I think obviously you do good lessons on KZbin but what someone physically can show you is better would you agree
@LiveAccessible
@LiveAccessible 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Aliza! Thanks for your comment. To answer your question, I do think that it is much easier when there is someone who can be with you physically to teach you how to use talkback. In some ways, voice over is easier and in some ways talkback is easier. However, since you are already a voice over user, voice over will certainly feel a lot easier. That's just because you started with voice over. But if you really want to try out talkback and android devices, I would recommend pixel devices.

I would like to add something to this conversation regarding the price of the phones. Yes, Apple tends to have a higher starting price, but you do not have to buy the Mack Daddy max model as the guy said to get the same experience hence what happened with me and my wife When we changed carriers she bought the new iPhone 12 at the time I bought the 11 and because of the promotion and the discounts I am actually only paying $300 for my iPhone 11 which still listed for $600 now I know this is rare. This does not happen all the time, but I got an iPhone 11 for $300 through the payments when the 12 was the new phone but the same thing typically tends to happen when the new iPhones come out the older ones are discounted so even steel you can get into a reasonable base level iPhone typically for around five to $600 Guess what that's around the same price as a reasonable android that's not just the dirt cheapest creepiest android you can buy

talk back has made improvements the past couple years cuz it sucked! very very frustrating, Voiceover on an iphone 6 right now is much better then talk back on the latest and greatest of android.. hell even a 4s or 4 still have a great response when using voiceover.. Android magnification is better tho, don't know why ios uses 3 finger for magnification.. anyway just wanted to point out that voiceover hasn't had to make many improvements cuz it's already smooth as butter, even the new gestures now with no home button is smooth and seamless.

Hi there! I'm glad that you are able to use an operating system that you like. I know a lot of blind people who use iOS and are happy with it and I know a lot of totally blind people who use android who love it and wouldn't trade it for the world. A lot of it isn't just about the screen reader, but the operating system itself. I think there is good and bad to be said of both. 😀

Some important context to note is IOS is a very closed sourced operating system this can be a double edged sword because on one-hand on IOS you have very minimal to no customization this is a good thing because the average user is less likely to ruin the operating system android on the other-hand is open source this translates into more customization options on the flip side if the average person does something that ruins the operating system such as tampering with essential system files they got themselves into very hot water so this has to be taken into consideration android itself is based on the Linux kurnal
