It remains an absolute privilege to be able to watch and learn from a master like Ford. Fantastic stuff

Figured I should share this with you Ford. One of the industrious kids in the neighborhood who occasionally sees me working on various jewelry projects asked why I strive for such precision when filing. I told him " If my Sensei found out I was slacking, he would be greatly displeased." in a dead serious tone. With a look of shock on his face, he then asked " Artisans have Sensei just like martial artists?" I laughed and replied " If they didn't, then trade schools and craftsmen wouldn't still be around. Now pick up that file and that peice of wood. I'll teach you some filing techniques for benchwork.". Now he comes over and shows me his craft projects and asks for pointers on how to grow as a craftsman, to which I give him refrence links to your videos.

Your content is an absolute joy. I’m in the middle of a US coast to coast drive, with all my toy^hols packed away and being shipped. Thank you for keeping me sane!

Allen wrenches are made of S7, a tough shock resistant steel. Hex bits for driving screws are also S7. Grind carefully, keeping the steel cool, and you wont affect the hardness.

Thanks for that Ford! I am going to try using this bevel technique to improve my accuracy when cutting the slots in my knife guards!

Am I correct in thinking that you are left eye dominant, which is why you cut clockwise (keeping the line on the left of the blade) and that someone right eye dominant would best cut anti-clockwise (keeping the line on the right of the blade)?

yes, left eye dominant. good point

Left eye dominant myself, but I cut on the right side of the line. Im thinking on how I started in my office in Afghanisran... what was the name of that base? FOB Shank. The light was overhead from the right. Then I scrounged up a desk lamp for more light, but by then I was cutting on the right. My left eye is stronger than my right...

yes, you cut on the right of the line so that the line is left of the blade. If you try using the other eye or cutting the other side of the line you have to tilt your head over unnaturally. I've been trying to cut both ways, hoping to improve my non dominant eye. It does effect your accuracy though and helps to understand.
