"children's hospital" is such a good and powerful descriptor of the way this album sounds to me; clinical, empty, eerie but also colorful, imaginative, awkward, playful, dreamy, escapist. i love this mixtape.

32:56 Absolutly agree. That's what makes the lyrics on this album so special. He constantly talks about something but without expressing the main concept in words, leaving it completely to inference. When you really give a meaning to the whole song you empathize more with the track, even without understanding it 100 percent. To me, it's something magical. ”The inspiration for me was trying to paint and express an inner image or feeling that I have through sound. The album for me is a kind of practice of focus and play in the incorporeal.” This is what bladee said about the mixtape and it kinda put the simplicity and repetitive nature of the lyrics in a different perspective for me, some of them almost feel like mantras. It kinda sounds like an abstract watercolor painting in some form of digital realm. It doesn't really matter if you can’t completely grasp the subject matter, what’s important is the images and feelings it invokes in you. Btw I think you'd also enjoy their latest album Crest, it's a collab tape between Ecco2k and bladee (2022). To me it's a little bit like a more elaborate, energized continuation of EXETER. Would love to see you react to it as well if you get the time (it's 31 min)

Exeter is the first full Bladee project i ever listened to, and it instantly made me into a fan just with the sheer strength of its vision and magic. Imaginary is still one of my favorite Bladee songs ever. I just love how his voice sounds like shattered glass/mirror in that song--- it's almost hypnotizing to me. Just a very ethereal and magical project overall. Thank you for reacting to it. If you want a Bladee project with a more refined sound and concrete lyrics, I recommend The Fool a lot !

really good review, enjoyed it a lot, hope you’ll do more bladee albums! it’s interesting you said these songs were mostly about relationships, for me it also sort of invokes feelings related to the idea and discovery of god, the mystery and beauty of life and death. how everything feels new and fresh and surreal when you sort of perceive the presence of "god" or have a spiritual awakening or revelation (every_moment_special). in some way. idk how to explain really. and it sounds so playful and childlike but also strange and robotic and electronic. it's really cool

bladee has been exploring spiritualism a lot in his lyrics lately, also using religion as a metaphor a lot
@megaarchiep2 жыл бұрын
He also discusses depression and dissociation in his music, more so up until the release of this album - which explores ideas that are kind of juxtaposed with what we had come to expect from Bladee. I think his lyrics aim to provide comfort or guidance for the listener often times (as well as containing other meanings, which gives the listener opportunity to develop their own meaning of the lyric, given the context of their situation). A large portion of fans look up to Bladee as some sort of cult leader, which has become an almost self aware joke, spawning memes about his music curing depression etc. I think lyrics where he refers to himself as 'not special' can be seen as directly addressing this cult leader identity he has garnered. His album 'The Fool' (as well as the recent 'Crest') really highlight and encapsulate Bladee's spiritualism and what a lot of fans take away from his music.
@megaarchiep2 жыл бұрын
Him saying he's not special is also meant to be encouraging I think; it's almost like he's saying: "look at where I am now, look at where I've come from and what I've been through, there's nothing special about me, I'm the same as you - you can do it too". This message definitely resonates more within the context of his entire discography, as Bladee has gone through periods of time where his music was extremely dark & cold.

I won't lie the insinuation that the track length was intended to make it easy to share "like on tik tok" is bordering on insulting to bladee's artistic vision, to think he would shape his projects around how easily they can be shared when his music is so clearly made w/ a disregard for mass appeal and money. that being said, I enjoy your videos and enthusiasm for bladee's work. I think if you keep digging you'll find a lot you like. Albums like Icedancer, The Fool, and Crest would all make amazing album reactions with lyrics breakdowns, they are really stimulating pieces in their lyrics/themes/production elements/vocal performances.
@papasquat082 жыл бұрын
Ah, sorry, I don't mean it to be insulting. The length of songs is really interesting to me and the reasons behind so many songs getting shorter and shorter is something that I wonder about. You have a good point about his music not being for mass consumption, though. I'll keep thinking about it, but I would love to hear these artists explain why they choose to make their songs so short.

Cool video! For this one its definitely easier to understand having a listen to earlier bladee songs. For example some lines in RAINBOW STAR are allusion to his older song which goes "Your *blood* tastes so sweet like *sugar*, baby". Also in his earlier and more depressive album Eversince he talks a lot about loneliness and never being able to hold a girl, but in this one he moves towards positive lyricism and expresses his will to hold her closer. Give love a chance!

Whenever you have time to get to another drain gang project, I highly recommend listening to the entirety of Crest by Bladee and Ecco2k, and produced by Whitearmor. IMO it is peak drain gang with some of Bladee's best performances and godly instrumentals by Whitearmor. Interesting fact, the song '5 star crest' is a tribute to late drain gang member, Vattenrum. If you really enjoyed this project and want to listen to more of this style, next you should listen to more Ecco2k's debut project, 'e', and Bladee's 'The Fool'. I hold these projects very dear to me, so it would be a pleasure to see your first reaction to them (especially Crest and e).
