Scott has ported two of my Husqvarna saws, a 390xp and a 562xp. I love the extra power of them and now I just bought a 543xp and I’ll likely have that saw ported also.

Nice work... I like the idea of the mandrel for marking port width... I used to use the piston, then measure and transfer lines, etc. I think the mandrel, setting up rqr'd width, then cutting to marks makes awesome sense. 👍

If you hit the area you want to scribe with a blue Sharpie. It works as layout dye so it's easier to see scribed marks. Many machinists use Sharpies.

I'm a little confused about the relationship of the transfers opening to the exhaust fully opening. I got a little lost during that part. Can someone provide a little more clarity on that?

Hate to be a fly in the ointment but what happens to the life span of the cylinder and piston with this mod ? The slightest wear on the rings would see an end of ring snagging the widened ex port... you can plainly see how close the ring stop pins in piston is to this widened port... would it not be safer to leave the width of port alone and reduce the ports ovality by making it more rectangular in profile?
@floydnglenn6 жыл бұрын
there's more then .100" of ring over lap on the cylinder. I would think one wound replace the rings long before there would be .100" gap in the rings. I think this is what your asking anyway. a flat port roof or flour that is over 50% of the bore will snag the ring no matter where the ring end pin is. the port has to have some curve to it. the vid was made as a general guide, not specific to any one piston and cylinder. this just happens to be a ms 461, and yes one must consider pin location. the pin can be relocated if needed.

Dont scribe ur piston for fucksake... a Sharpie marker is 2 dollars and dont rub off easy. Just let it dry for 5 seconds... be professional about it.. not one of those "good enuff" or "wont hurt it" backyard guys. Their saws come to me daily for repairs.

Hello Scott, I would love to chat with you regarding doing work on a 500i which I will be getting shortly. I am not aware what is ment by a “Work saw” vs any other type of saw work you would offer and can use clarity about it. I don’t know how to make contact and if you can either give me a telephone number, email address, or website I will reach out.thank you so much, you are truly looked up too and appreciated. Thanks, Michael
