I keep coming back to this song... and decided to grab a copy and then remaster it into 5.1 audio by move parts of the mix around the channels.... creating a dedicated LFE improved things considerably on the 5.1-7.1 systems.... It sounds fantastic... with a proper surround sound setup (quality speakers and amp and damn good subwoofer, not that all in one garbage pre-packaged crap you see bundled with tvs or on sale for 500-2500 dollars or whatever)... But it's of course nothing remotely as good as from source during it's creation to be mastered in 5.1. What I came up with was significantly better than matrixed audio, but still not as good as it could be. I really wish more audio was mastered in 5.1. Plenty of media players will play it, and even modern smart tvs will decode AC-3 (dolby Digital) 640kbps 5.1 (384kbps lowest for 5.1)... or AAC/LC 1280kbps 5.1 or 1706kbps 7.1 (if you can master it in fully 7.1) which will downmix to 5.1 or 2 channel perfectly. Exiark, would you ever consider creating a true 5.1 track? Or perhaps you don't have the necessary tools/encoding options (granted encoding is easy with the free tools that provided it). If you were to use AC-3, make sure it's libav NOT aften... (ffmpeg) and if you were to use AAC/LC.. make sure it's NeroAAC 1.5.4.0 via EAC3TO. All I did was export the stereo track to raw w64, import it into a editing tool that allows me to blend/move the 2 channel tracks across 5 and create a dedicated LFE for a total of 6... and then export it as a raw w64 6 channel file to which I used the tools mentioned to produce the final encode. Playing these 2 files via smart tv or computer or various numerous types of hardware media players that support spdif/HDMI multi channel that can fully decode prior or bitstream it direct should work fine. Obviously anyone using a computer with HDMI 6 channel mode or bitstreaming via HDMI/Fiber/spdif/toslink should work to a supported amp.

I might consider it if i had a 5.1 monitoring system (they cost a lot of money, especially the balanced ones). Mixing in 5.1 is also way more tedious than in stereo, you also need an X-Curve from Dolby if you plan on having it balanced. I appreciate you versioning my tune for a different system and I'd be glad to have a copy of it, just to test it. Also the maority of the music DAW such as Ableton Live (the one I use) are focused solely on stereo. I know Logic has 5.1 support, but most of the VST I own are stereo. Pro Tools Uses multi mono function (pretty smart) but I do not own an HD-TDM system but only an LE version that doesn't support 5.1 So for now I am kinda hozed :(
