It's because it happens way to often in real life. People jump to the immediate "This must be the truth" and don't bother thinking any deeper about it. We have stuff like Joan of Arc, who everyone dismissed but ended up being pretty important for the French War effort. There is Admiral Yi of Korea, who was initially relegated to dead end position, and is arguably one of the greatest military leaders. Heck, look up the story of Shuji Nakamura, and everything he went through to invent the Blue LED. John Snow of England is considered the father of Epidemiology, yet for a long time he wasn't taken seriously. People will be ignored, disparaged, and otherwise disregarded if they don't fit with the current 'understanding' of things. In this case, not having a class/job meant he could switch, but it's so far outside traditional understanding that 'your class/job is permanent and you can't change it' that nobody thought such a possibility, even in their wildest imaginations.

Totally disagree. Specialisation provides a huge bonus, because you don't waste your abilities. A group of 5 "jack of all trades" would get completly annihilated by a specialized group. Only in a 1v1 being good at everything is a advantage.... but working alone is always worse than cooperating with others. You literally just have to look at gaming. There is a reason why people choose roles and not skill in everything. As long as your ressources are limited (skills, stats etc.), a specialised group is always much stronger. And even in a 1v1 a specialised character might be stronger (for example a mage that simply oneshots you).

There is a cultural component in Japanese stories at least as they still hugely status focused, it doesn’t matter what you do it’s how the group views you. My family moved out of Japan for some of these practices. It’s something a Japanese teenager can relate to more than a westerner. Rejection and shunning is an everyday practice especially is more rural areas. There are tons of reasons why their suicide rate is so high. It’s true for South Korea as well. I hear china is bad too but they have so many other factors going on it’s hard to make a comparison. The Mc is labeled as trash by the people in charge so he must be trash. In a better written story you would get characters showing that they fear being labeled trash as well if the recognize the Mc for his actions. It’s usually only when the entire group turns on the leaders such a trash label is lifted, or when a person if even higher status says no MC is awesome these guys are trash. It all status or mob mentality not individuals making up their mind. It’s sad but common thing in the east especially for school age people where conformity is literally part of the school goals.

@@rhyspatterson679 I have been given the impression that Japanese (and you say South Korean as well) society tends to emphasize the group over the individual, which helps to reinforce the "prevailing wisdom" of the group over facts. Of course, there are bullies everywhere, and your average person is going to be afraid enough of the bully to not argue with their opinion, lest they themselves become targets, which sounds very similar to what you're talking about with others being afraid of suffering the same shunning. The people in the story willing to attack the MC, however, I'd wager is intentional caricature to allow the MC to show off against. Personally, I think this story would have been a lot more interesting if the Jack of All Trades had to level each class individually and do some creative mix-and-matching to actually accomplish what they accomplish. But that would be less MC at that point, and more a story of overcoming one's own shortcomings, and I don't know if that would fit the genre.

The one thing about this story that doesn't make sense to me is how they continue to call him trash. I can totally see why they thought he was trash at a glance. All of his stats except for dexterity was as low as can be and all are marked as unable to grow and he had no job. In a world where stats and profession means everything it's easy to understand why they would dismiss him for that. However, once he demonstrated that he was skillful rather than trying to understand why they just doubled down. I can sort of understand that with regards to the sae since it's a matter of personal pride to always be right, but no one else should be doing that. The scene where one guy suggested killing him AFTER the three of them was defeated by him and an apparently inferior weapon was especially bad, but at least they had enough sense to run away in terror after realizing that suggesting they kill someone who just defeated them is rather stupid. Usually in a story like this there's a good reason for an ongoing mistake. In one good story example a mage who is restricted to basic magick is treated like trash since he can never used advanced spells. His special ability is to have the effects last a very long time, but since most people don't deal with mages they don't know that most buffs only last a mere 10 minutes. In that story is makes sense that people would just assume that the duration of the effect is normal while still looking down on him. In this story it's clearly different. Evidence that contradicts the initial assessment comes almost immediately, but people still treat him like he's trash. Even the teachers who don't otherwise have a stake in things. I did otherlise like the story though. Being able to freely change classes and level them up separately reminds me of Final Fantasy 11. If I was ever Isekaied into a world like that I'd want my special ability to be access to job changes where each job can level up separately for versatility.

As it was mentioned on the start, this is countries top magic school witch only rolls nobility and other elites children. Combine bunch of children that never heard word "NO" in their lifes and have everything handed to them in silver platter while lower classes are worshipping them ether by thinking they benefit from it or being forced to....Great breeding ground to produce bunch of entitled sociopaths and psychopaths. Given the story and art style those tendencies are turned by author into rude/ mean/ crappy behavior with some comedic villainy, well as establishments like this tend not to allow straight out murder of fellow students... but nothing prevents scheming, backstabbing, some bribery and abuse of power, since only one above them is the king and next level of royalty/politician etc making this political minefield, where students need to learn who is who, so they know how to target and push the shit down hill when they are targeted, or make that tongue brown upwards to gain protection from their "betters". Essentially think private school for elites in politically unstable country that has royalty. In story i'm thinking there is some career choices in politics and government after you graduate based on your success and those sponsors are ones betting to their favorites giving money to school. For manufacturing evidence to support and reinforce their thinking is simple psychological phenome called cognitive dissonance, where person does anything even lying to them selfs to keep on believing thing they have believed, even if all evidence points towards opposing answer.

Sigh, typical of harem stories, he seems to level up from his interaction with girls and yet remains clueless. Though now that I think about it any other reaction than innocent obliviousness/indecision would make him look bad, he'd either be a player/pervert and try to be close to all the girls, or have to reject some of them and hurt their feelings. Maybe there's a reason why the oblivious guy is a trope in the harem genre.

The lack of progress from the characters is mind numbingly painful... It's like the entire school only serves as a plot device to move the MC, whilst excusing itself as the story about "picked on MC proves their bullies wrong, and you're gonna be so satisfied, ur gonna bust one" The more I'm watching this, it feels like the MCs growth is becoming less and less impactful. Man is just a blank slate (sometimes ACTUALLY being badass like when he called BS on the teacher) But other than that, it's just blank (yes sir) slave that has no self preservation instinct. Maybe that's why the author dropped the series (or so I've heard)

The most unrealistic thing about this are the principle and vice principal. Even in stories like this they would normally be fawning over the mc even after he was labeled "trash" because his achievements are so great. If anything only the the jealous students should be a hindrance to him to try and take credit. Like the principal and vice principals whole character trait is money and wanting good numbers tgeir bumbling joke status would work much better as trying to get on MCs good side but in an overbearing and annoyingly funny way.

OK, the start of this one is fucked as hell. 10 million gets gambled on a girls virginity. When she heals someone for the first time, they lose their shit at not being the first healed THEN they have a SECOND reaction to losing to the loser and THEN the THIRD reaction to losing the 10 millions. This is way too reminiscent of the old Japanese practice about a prostitute's first day, where it would go for absurd amounts of money. And the creepiness towards the saint just keeps on piling the more the story goes. It's sooo freaking weird. And it's a sad note to the story. Like if they more deferential than ick creepy, it would make the relationship between the saint and mc all the more cute.

... Dafuq? It wasn't on her virginity, it was on her first heal. I believe it was mentioned that it's something of some minor sentimental value, and it was just hyped because it was a popular girl involved. Further, the reactions were separate for specific reasons- while the class was listening to the vice prez speak about the stupd event, MC was getting healed by his Childhood Friend ™ . Thus, the ones nearby to notice the healing were distracted from the reward, the ones that knew about the reward were on the other side, and the ones between the two groups were just people who were doing pattern recognition- first, trash got exiled, then, trash got healed. Is it prime storytelling? No. But maybe if you spent more time comprehending what you were reading/listening to instead of trying to find things to be offended about, you might have actually just taken mediocre writing for mediocre writing.
