The "void" he's talking about can really be too much to embrace on your own. It's basically pressuring yourself to bear a massive load of responsibility before you're mentally equipped and emotionally secure enough to really deal with it, which is overwhelming and can make you feel very helpless. Those two feelings are closely linked to depression and anxiety.

Dan, you have perfectly described my life. Teacher: Why aren't you doing your work? Me: the reason I haven't done this is because this piece of paper has no meaning to me and to anyone else. The things on this paper is nothing but scribbles that mankind has given some pointless meaning. This paper is given to me by the society, demanding that I waste over 12 years of my life to do nothing but sit in a room for 8 hours, 5 days a week, and be told random things by random people who have devoted their lives to wasting precious years out of someone else's life and teach them completely useless things that have been deemed important by society. Therefore you and everyone is this very room and every classroom all over the world has wasted precious seconds of their lives, doing nothing but learn useless things and watch the world around crumble slowly and fall into despair. Teacher: Excuse me? Me: Society will be the death of humanity and eventually it will choke itself out. Teacher: Get out. Me: I also realized that everything you do or say has no effect on me and I may sit here as long as I please. Teacher: that's it I am calling your mom. Me: couldn't hear you, I was too busy leaving.

Being self aware is a pain in the ass. As soon as I realized my freedom I had a huge fight with my mom first thing in the morning every day and came to school every morning depressed and trying not to cry because I love my mom, even though she is not as self aware as I am and doesn't understand my rebellion against society. Also, why do women always have to wear shirts and bras and shit? Like if it's a really hot day I want to be able to take my damn shirt off without being stared at, judged, or arrested.

"And have the courage to exist" What if we're all just figments of someone's imagination What if someone's pulling all the strings of our lives What if in 2012 the world DID end and we're all just living as wandering souls as if nothing ever happened What if No one Is real
@essahayli10 жыл бұрын
I feel like the ending of that is true The 2012 thing? Bc life is like no longer interesting and somehow every strong emotion we feel Is now somehow less Like example: during Christmas time it didn't feel like Christmas at all and it felt like it was just another day and the year went quick Like people aren't remembering 2013 or 2014 it's just skipped by like it was 2012 then out of nowhere it's 2015

Today me and my friend got in the topic of how you can't ever imagine death, then that went to not ever being able to imagine pain, and finally it developed into not ever being able to imagine or think back on happiness. When you try you will never feel the same happiness you felt in that moment. The thing that motivates the majority of society is something that we literally cannot imagine.

I came to re-watch this video after the Vancouver We're all Doomed show. I have recently been making changes in my life, practicing mindfulness and accepting my mental health problems as a small part of me, rather than something that defines me and controls my life. The Doomed show was truly the most liberating experience of my life so far. At the end of the show when you ended with "embrace the void and have the courage to exist" and someone yelled "We love you Dan" the whole crowd erupted and you gave us one last look that was just filled with so much emotion. I am going this week to get "embrace the void and have the courage to exist" tattooed so I can remind myself forever of the significance of that show and the first time I've felt that affirmation of my mental health and freedom from the control it had over me for so many years. I'm so happy to see you in 2022 making content that makes you happy and being such an influential mental health advocate and going around from city to city and preforming that amazingly written show. It was funny and sad and scary and liberating all at the same time. Thank you Dan, it was a truly special experience
