No one dismises science, everybody in our modern society recognize science importance. They just allow themselves to say science is wrong when it's against their ideas. Carl Sagan wrote a lot about this social phenomenon.

There is nothing wrong with science or gaining knowledge the problem is that people draw wrong conclusion based on a lie, confirmation bias and thinking not aligned with God's word the bible. The JW organizations doctrine is strictly guided by God's word. The problem is that most do not know what God's word teaches and often listens to people they think are in the know when in fact they have no clue. Even though the bible was written for all mankind the true God limits who he allows to understand his word based on the persons heart condition. (Matthew 11:25) At that time Jesus said in response: “I publicly praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and intellectual ones and have revealed them to young children. (Matthew 13:10, 11) So the disciples came and said to him: “Why do you speak to them by the use of illustrations?” 11 In reply he said: “To you it is granted to understand the sacred secrets of the Kingdom of the heavens, but to them it is not granted.

@@thia41012 at the time my mum was rlyy into u know being a JW and she told me straight up what they told her, and said Marta I dont see it that way but they are the elders and they probably know better. Maybe I (my mum) am the one that is in the wrong. So I ended up wearing different type of dresses and skirts. Today neither me or my mum are JWs anymore. And the whole -women can wear pants now- omg we fliped at this after everything we had to adjust just to fit in.

When I was younger, i was actually sort of devoted to being a witness and I told one of the elders (basically a pastor) that I wanted to work aswell and “make Jehovah happy” AND I REMEMBER THIS MAN SAYING “well sweetie, that’s for the men you just need to help make more witnesses!” And he laughed along with my mom. No one is over another in the JW organization all are equal. The issue is that Jehovah God has established a headship arrangement and if you do not like that it would be advisable to take it up with our Creator not the JW organization. The headship arrangement does not make the man a lord or a boss. But I might ask do you have a problem taking orders from a male boss or any male? You need to get up to date with the JW teachings.

I have to agree, because I can see how the formerly non-religious grifters are flocking to it these days. The arrangement is for the man in the household to take the lead not as a boss or a dictator. In the JW organization woman are equal to men but considered the weaker vessel and should be treated as such. (1 Peter 3:7) "You husbands, in the same way, continue dwelling with them according to knowledge. Assign them honor as to a weaker vessel, the feminine one, since they are also heirs with you of the undeserved favor of life, in order for your prayers not to be hindered" The Greek noun rendered “honor” means “price, value, . . . respect.” Forms of this word are translated “gifts” and “precious.” (Acts 28:10; 1 Peter 2:7) A husband who honors his wife would never assault her physically; neither would he humiliate or disparage her, causing her to feel worthless. Rather, he recognizes her value and treats her with respect. He shows by his words and deeds-in private and in public-that she is precious to him. (Proverbs 31:28) Such a husband gains not only his wife’s love and respect but, more important, God’s approval.

Yep! I joined a Bible Study once and corrected a man in the group (nicely, but with a Medical background, I thought I’d set misinformation straight kindly)...the Pastor spoke right over me while I was explaining, continuing his whatever as though I was invisible. I arose gracefully and left never to return. I wrote a local newspaper comment about it without naming him. Got lots of response from women who felt ignored, diminished, invisible. It’s very sad. But women don’t like to hear from other women either, especially if the speaker is attractive. They are afraid their men might agree.

My mom is a *feminist* Catholic -- as was one of my middle-school teachers [I attended a Catholic school in Tacoma]. I have, however, witnessed evidence of reactionary Catholic circles. I know that Latin American countries (with the possible exception of some Mexican archdiocese) have less to curb clerical chauvinism than do Canada and the US!

I will never forget when I was brought into the "little room" as they would call it, to be alone with two elders as they discussed my "inappropriate" wear and my body shape. I was around 11, my body was changing and I was made so aware of it then. They said should not wear those types of sundresses because it was "distracting" and showed my "figure". Mind you I was 11, still wearing a sundress from the preteen section and not really aware that the curves I was growing into were something to be sexualized. They said you could make a brother "stumble" and lead someone into "temptation". TO AN 11 YEAR OLD GIRL. They asked me if I wore bras and what size etc. It was traumatizing to hear all of this from grown men. So many elders are creepy perverts and pedos, and it's all covered up.

In one case, one woman was married to a very lazy man - a decent man, but unbelievably unmotivated. She could run circles around this man and any man in the congregation. She held her family together financially and in every other meaningful way. The incredible waste of potential is staggering. How contrary to the way Jesus treated women who in many ways placed them ahead of the apostles.

I had an older sister always walking up to me, shover her hand down the front of my shirt and would pull up the undershirt. I asked her several times to not do it. My parents didn't do anything but tell me to fix my dresses and make sure it doesn't stumble someone. I live with my family that are still in. I remember getting taken off the school at 12 for having 1 red koolaid streak in my hair, because of this I was a "bad example" and no longer allowed to be looked at by the "young ones". There was also a time around 14 that I wore jeans and t shirt to the meeting because I didn't want to be there, my abusive father was angry but he was also disfellowshipped at the time (I was thrilled that he couldn't talk religion with me). And when I did get baptized at 17 (due to running back to the org from fear after I did things I regretted outside of the religion) nearly no one treated me kindly and always looked down on me no matter how much I did, how 'perfect' I tried to be. I got blamed for the abuse my father inflicted on me, and the abuse of my husband who was at the time a jw. Elders 'warned' me to not "bring reproach on Jehovah's name" by bringing anything to the legal system.. I was constantly told that I was out of control and needed to submit and be an "obedient wife/daughter". I was told these things, all the while I was holding in my feelings and being quiet, I got depressed wondering how much more "submissive" could I be? . Although in my mid 20s, married and have a child, I'm still viewed as an actual child to my parents, and ones in the congregation still go to my parents to try and get them to "correct" me even though I left the org 3 months ago, and I have a family of my own. This is just a short part of my story as a woman growing up in the org. This religion, like many others out there truly hates women.

I was given a marking talk at the age of 14 because I was very much an emo kid. So I had a white stripe right on the side of my head. With my natural black hair. The brother on the podium looked straight at me when he was giving the “modesty talk” and said we shouldn’t have hair with unnatural hair colors or highlights . I got up and cried in the bathroom at 14! Which made me more emo 🖤 😅😂 so I dyed my hair red cuz I was pissed. I had an elders wife come up to me during the assembly when I was 12 and told me my dress was way too short . She told my mom I looked like a whore and I need to go back to the hotel and get a change of clothes. My dress was barely above the knee being 5’7” I had a hard time finding long dresses. In service a sister said even though it’s 110 outside I still need to wear a cardigan and cover my chest at age 16 because I had too much cleavage. I can go on 😂. Safe too say self confidence was not my strength in the cult .

I left at 17. I was being forced to date a "brother", and we were intended to marry when I turned 18. I wasn't very pretty, so I was supposed to be happy someone wanted me. I became a JW when I was 12, married at 18, and left at age 19 when I went to the Elders for 'help' after I was drugged and date raped while on a 'secular' work trip away from my husband. As a JW, you are indoctrinated to go to the Elders instead of law enforcement for all matters, so that's what I did. I sat in a Judicial Hearing alone with 3 old white guys, having to recount in explicit detail what happened to me. The result? Instead of receiving any kind of help or support, I was disciplined (publicly reproved) and told that it was all MY fault and that it wouldn't have happened to me if I wasn't associating with 'wordly' people, and forced to APOLOGIZE TO THESE MEN FOR MY ACTIONS. I was completely blindsided when the first words out of their mouths after telling them what happened to me was 'Well... Are you going to apologize to us for what you did?' One of my biggest regrets in life is apologizing to them for being raped and not going to the authorities.

As a Christian, I've always felt grieved for women in the JW cult. I've seen the way they are treated by their husbands while door knocking. When they came to my door to discuss the equality of Jesus to God (as they deny the deity of Jesus), the husband point blank said in front of his wife said "how can Jesus be equal to God the Father? My wife isn't even equal to me!"... Immediately, I addressed that poor woman, and told her "ma'am, you are equal to your husband, but more importantly, Jesus, who is equal to God the Father, loves you, and died for sins and rose again for you!".

I am a woman, with an IQ of about 125. I have a BSc in Environmental Science and Geography. My husband died when my younger son was three months old. I have two sons, my older son was 2 years old. My sons are now 21 and 23. I raised them as a single mother, they have jobs and rent a house together. I also own my own farm. It doesn't make much money, but it helps to feed me. Mostly I wear trousers because dresses are horrible to work in, on a farm, including when I need to work with my horse and other animals. As a Female Head of Household, I have always needed to make decisions with regards to my family's life and future. I needed to be both Mum and Dad to my boys, nurturer and authoritative figure. I have also had to stand up for myself and my children, from time to time. They are men now, they don't need me to protect them anymore, but when they were little, it was vital to all of our futures! I had to be a leader, because if I was not a leader for my family, my family would have fallen apart! My sons love me and we are still all there for each other. I am a Christian (a NORMAL Christian!), and I can see that something Apocalyptic this way comes and this is my main motivation for setting up my farm, to be a resource for when the Coprola Hits the Propellor. But I have nothing to do with any churches, because of their hypocritical BS. I stand before God with a good conscience, and that is what really matters, at the end of the day! All the Best, Panda.

So I just watched this. I was raised in this cult from the time I was 4 years old till I was baptized at 17 and then left at 18. The damage done during those fundamental years of my life is hard to really explain. I cringe thinking back on it now. I remember the sister doing my bible study suggesting I wear makeup to be more presentable (I was 16 at this point) I was also advised to not persue education and do full time ministry instead, this eventually led me to drop out of school and do just that, getting baptized and doing field service full time at just 17. An older sister would always make comments to me about how she'd give me her recipies once I get married so I can make them for my husband. During this time my mother was fighting the congregation to get a divorce, of course everyone was insistent that she stayed even though my father had come out as gay and was never in the church to begin with. By the time i was 18 i was severly su*cidal and made an attempt which obviously failed. I never went back after that. The elders came to my house to get me to go back, but i was just numb at that point and just told them straight out that I had lost interest and couldn’t find anything within myself that motivated me to go back. I'm 26 now, my mom left with me and my father passed a while back though our relationshipwas better than ever at the time. Unfortunately my ability to form meaningful female friendships has been impacted and being around men just gives me too much anxiety, but I'm working on it as best I can. Every now and then I find another piece of indoctrination still burried within me that needs to be fixed, but I find that I'm a little bit better everyday.

I had a lady come to my door as a JW, I told her we could discuss but I was not interested in converting. It was sad, to me that they were not to partake of food of those not of their faith. However, she did but feeling somewhat guilty. It was eye opening to learn a divergent view of spiritual matters, she was a very sweet, intelligent woman who knew her stuff. But eventually, I think her husband made the decision not to drop her at my house because I did not convert. Quite quickly, our conversations would be more than talking about the bible, not really personal, she was very guarded but I got the impression this time we spent together was less about converting me and more of a respite for her. I remember her astonishment when I politely asked her in to talk over some refreshments and she was hesitant but did. I already knew they were not to enter a home when out witnessing, but I extended the invitation , surprised she accepted. I really enjoyed those afternoon visits once a week.

I am a med student and I have a very intelligent classmate who is a JW. It makes me sad as a woman and future doctor to see another woman and colleague so committed to this religion. The worst part is that we were in some kind of friend group and now another girl also attends the meetings. We talked about it and it hurt me to see how she agrees with what they stand for (homophobia, misogyny, slutshaming, etc.), so I feel like I lost a friend.

My ex-husband (then a MS) and I had been dating for all of two weeks when an elder pulled him aside at one meeting and told him to tell me to never wear the skirt I was wearing again. It was winter. I had on opaque tights, it was a thick skirt that hit the bottom of my knee caps when standing, came up to the top when sitting, but I also had a cardigan to cover my knees in my seat. Nothing was tight, nothing was showing. But that skirt was an abomination because you could see my whole blue-tights covered knee for a total of maybe 5 seconds through the course of the meeting. I’m certain it was because it was high waisted so I tucked my shirt in, making it clear that I *gasp* have a butt!! It also offended me so much that I wasn’t even close to marrying this dude yet, and was a 26-year-old woman who’d lived alone for several years at that point, but the message had to be conveyed through him (who was 21 at the time - yes, I know; believe me, I ignored a lot of red flags) because we were dating so he was now my “head.” 🙄

My dad would be the Attendant at Conventions and it was just me and him so I'd help him in handing out the programs or folding people's walkers. And everyone always questioned him. "Why is she handing out programs?" My dad's like "She's just helping me" The women at the Conventions were the ones sitting at donation boxes or the nurse station. THANK YOU for addressing that "appropriate dress" is really contextual. No one ever seems to mention that. People tend to have this very one dimensional idea of what people "should" wear but really it's about context. A pop singer may wear something outlandish and sexy on stage as part of a performance, but you wouldn't wear that to a PTA meeting. So much about how to dress appropriately is about where you will be going, but it's so weird when people compare their idea of everyday attire to what is worn in very different situations and use that as a way to shame other women. Club wear is not office wear and vice versa. Let people have their fun dressing up for the club, who cares? If you don't like it then don't go.

I was stuck with fundie relatives for most of my childhood and have heard all of this before. Strangely they tried to hide it from me until I was around 10, thats when they started trying to pound in the inferiority. I still remember the visceral reaction of disgust I had to it. Left the church officially when I was 13. When I was 20 I had a near death experience and I opened myself back up to God and spirituality, but not religion. Never again. One thing I do still believe in is that God will not give us a challenge we cannot overcome, and I try to apply that to the misogyny I still experience just existing as a female in this world. I will never believe that a loving God would create something for the sole purpose to serve another. If anything this shows how people corrupt and use religion to control. A major thing that lead to me leaving the church was an older family member who had left already, explaining how religion was a tool used to control people, while spirituality is the true connection between us and God.

the part about women's brain size being 10% smaller than a male's meaning that women are less capable of leadership... do they at all take into account outliers? do they ever look at a woman and see that she has a larger cranium than the man next to her, and deduce that she must be smarter? Quite a lot of misogyny I got was from fellow sisters who had no real other option in the church, having been raised to it, so they were quick to hush any woman that spoke out for fear that if they didn't, it would rebound onto them. I'm not an ex JW but I have attended meetings with one. Her name was Miss J, Jehony pronounced as Johnny, and yes that's how it's spelled. She was a JW from when she was a child and her name was spelled in honor of Jehovah. I have no idea how old she really is but in her late 60's. She was our neighbor and I would have bible studies or attend a lot of meetings with her. Many of the brothers and sisters would ask me if I was getting baptized and committing myself to Jehovah, and for reference I was 13 (17 rn) at the time I attended, and at that point, I had only been attending for about 2 months. I met a sweet lady who was named Peaches. She was an absolute doll. Now Miss J and I were friends for a good while until she asked me to pay her back over 3,000 for things she had given me AND MY FAMILY over the years, for free mind you. She works as a manger at a grocery store and she would give us food the wasn't sellable but not spoiled. This was among some other things that fall into the line of "She just gave it to us". She harassed me to the point we were about to charge her for harassment of a minor. I reached back out a few weeks later to inform her of my Grandmothers passing as I knew no one would have told her, My gram was my life and world and they were friends until she became a C**t. Now up until about 6 months ago we got back in contact but I had learned she spilled our drama in the congregation and from then on Peaches would no longer speak to me and I was no longer welcome to meetings, which you know I was ok with. That being said, I hate this woman. When my grandmother passed away she said my Gram promised her a lot of our things or things she specifically left for me and my brother and threatened to call the cops because it wasn't ours. She walked all over my Gram and disrespected her memory so much, telling me I probably didn't care about Gram because I didn't call her asking her to pray to Jehovah for her. She also accused my mom of killing her sister when in reality her sister Oded after she was kicked out of my Gram's house she was renting (long story but My gram lived with us as the overbearing MIL and rented her house out. When mom kicked her out she Kicked Miss J's sister out). She also has called me crying over the loss of her sister who passed away in 2020, 3 YEARS LATER ALMOST EVERY DAY, and basically made that an excuse for all her problems in life but I know for a fact JW are taught to morn and move within like a week. It got to the point I told her I didn't want to hear another word from her or have her reach out to any of my family members because she was going to have to grow up and be an adult and stop calling a kid to solve your life problems. I haven't heard from her since then like 4 months ago but I have many more examples of how she was just a horrible person who didn't even follow her religion and how miserable the meetings were. I'm honestly glad I was no longer welcome because my mental health had such a downward spike after I attended meetings and how many brothers and sisters were just so...no. It was 100% a cult and I'm so glad I didn't get involved any more than I did.

I knew a girl back in high school who was really smart. Like, seriously, she was absolutely crazy intelligent. In all the GT classes, getting good grades and played the flute in my concert band. And this was a magnet school (as in, all students were in a magnet, and therefore, had to maintain a certain GPA to remain there). I personally would consider her the cream of the crop. She was a Jehovah’s Witness, and I remember her turning down prom, homecoming, Spring Fling, etc. because of her beliefs; which, don’t get me wrong, is all fine and good if it’s really against your beliefs and something you didn’t want to do. But what got me was that, when applying for colleges, she actually said that she was forbidden to attend college. Which surprised me because, as smart as she was, I genuinely believed she could probably achieve anything. And while I understand people not _wanting_ to go to college (i.e. too expensive, trade school option, waiting, job already lined up, just not wanting to deal with more school, etc.), the sheer idea that this girl made it clear she was _forbidden_ to go instead of just not _wanting_ to go because she, like her parents, were Jehovah Witnesses just absolutely baffled me. Like, all that potential, all that knowledge, all that skill… put away on an old shelf and left to rust, just so she can lose her identity to become a submissive wife to a man who might probably not recognize his wife’s true potential to be someone more is just… tragic. And before anyone says anything, l believe there’s nothing wrong with being a housewife. It’s hard work and one that’s genuinely underestimated and unrecognized, despite the fact it’s a 24-hour-job, particularly when kids are involved. It can be rewarding to see your children grow and your domestic affairs in order while you aid your husband in his endeavors outside the home, _if that’s what you desire._ However, there’s a huge difference in _choosing_ to be a housewife than being _forced_ (or coerced in these cases) to be one. To be essentially taught that there is a permanent glass ceiling, with your purpose is to be below a man due just the simple fact you’re a woman and for your whole life, your purpose is to maintain the four walls of your home and handle the unseen, unrecognized and unappreciated work of the church and house is such a terrible thing for these girls to grow up into, while the boys learn, even in such a restrictive cult, they can become something more and achieve more. These women can only continue to keep looking up through each glass ceiling as the men in their lives go up the career ladder, that these women helped build but can’t climb, to ascend to higher floors, further above and beyond, while they forever remain in the basement. Not even allowed to the main floor. Such an unfulfilling life. It’s no wonder they look towards the afterlife so much, because it’s the only place they believe their unrecognized and restricted hard work after burying their aspirations into the ground and mustering their willingness to accept themselves to be seen and treated as less than their male peers, will finally allow them of being awarded the grand opportunity to finally be seen as an actual person.

It shouldn't be surprising that most religions are patriarchal, considering how humans are apes and our closest living relatives are chimpanzees, and they are also highly patriarchal. It is kind of like how we eat meat because we are omnivores, which a lot of people consider wrong. Humans are the only animals that have developed such a high level of self-awareness and potential for recursive thinking that we have started critiquing the behaviors that come naturally to us. It is interesting to think about from an evolutionary perspective. Humans are the first animals to create truly unnatural artificial environments. We have even synthesized entirely new elements that don't exist anywhere else in the world. It is a shame politics and ethics haven't caught up with modern technology and science in terms of sophistication. The average physicist basically has to be a genius to grasp the esoteric ins and outs of that insanely detailed and counter-intuitive field, while the average political scientist or sociologist is pretty much just an indoctrinated, opinionated midwit that reasserts the fashionable positions of his time. The social sciences are pathetically unscientific in comparison to the highly rigorous and empiricist hard sciences. I dunno why I'm talking about this on a video about Jehovah's Witnesses, though...lol.

Actually, I've heard from my anthropology classes at university that our patriarchal societies focus heavily on fidelity due to our intelligence. Our babies are born underdeveloped compared to other species, because we are bipedal and have a narrow pelvis. Big heads, small hole. This leads our babies to be comparatively defenseless. A two parent household makes it more likely our babies will live long enough to have babies, which is the marker for reproductive success. Most species aren't concerned with coparenting, so fidelity (reproductive monopolies on females through cultural concepts like marriage) "ensures" the baby is actually the man's progeny. Why put so much effort and resources into raising someone else's baby? With how smart we are, it's not only resources but time teaching the child as well. Our big brains also need an omnivorous and nutrient rich diet, the pay off has been us becoming the most dominant species on Earth. We are more closely related to bonobos, and they are matriarchal.

i didn't grow up as a JW but i had a friend who did. He was trans and never believed in the religion, but had to practice their customs to avoid being disfellowshipped even though, when I knew him, he was only 14 years old. His parents were VERY strict with the religion, and he was RARELY allowed to wear pants to school. All he was really allowed to wear were these knee to ankle (his parents said that floor-length was drawing attention to yourself so it wasn't modest) length dresses. He was bullied for this. One time he (this was in middle school) accidentally pulled a seam loose in his skirt during four square, and his dress began to come undone and he was sent home. He told me that his parents yelled and screamed at him for over an hour about how it was his fault and he got blamed for it and was no longer allowed to play four square or any other sports at lunch. One time a guy at the school had purposefully grabbed his chest and when he told his parents to report the guy, his parents blamed him yet again. He would always tell me that his parents would say to him when he got a bad grade on a test or school assignment, that it wasn't entirely his fault because he couldn't be blamed for being a "woman" and not having the same mental capacity as men. He also always told me that he wished so much he had been born male to avoid mistreatment, and that he wished so much that he cut himself. The last time i ever saw him he was COVERED in cuts and had always told his parents if they asked that they were stretch marks, cat scratches, etc, and they were obviously not, so his parents didn't give a shit anyway. He had had enough and told his parents he was trans, then got kicked out, and the last day i ever saw him was the next school day. He told me he couldn't do it anymore and, unfortunately, he ended his life that night. All because of JW's god awful treatment of women and trans people. I miss him so, so much and he was one of my best friends. He was kind, understanding, sympathetic, funny, resilient, respectful, responsible, trustworthy, gentle, caring, creative, intelligent, etc. His funeral was a blur for me. In the casket, he was wearing a white, knee-length dress with pink flowers, had his long hair tied up in a bun, and had pink flower clips in his hair. Exactly what he didn't want, especially not for his funeral. I have one polaroid photo of us on a field day where he was allowed to wear pants that I look at all the time. He deserved so much better, but all i can do now is respect him and share his story to spread awareness.

Wow. Im female. Why on earth would anyone put up with this? I mean I get people in other cultures where the *entire* culture is set up that women are kind of just unpaid labor for the benefit of men, its hard to see any other way. But if you live in the Western world, you will see women going around having similar social power to men, earning their own money, and doing what they want to. And whether "what they want to" is be a mom, housewife, or go climb the corporate ladder or start a business - its their choice to do it.

I’m a woman and I spent a lot of my childhood in the deep, bible-belt south. I wasn’t religious and neither is my family, but the people around us were. I was often chastised for not being delicate enough and traditionally effeminate enough. I was also alienated at times due to me not wanting to be a mom. One of my biggest memories of elementary school was when I didn’t want to play house with the girls, but couldn’t play tag with the boys. They wouldn’t let me because I was a girl, so must be playing house. So I just had to be on my own for a hour. There were a lot of other issues too, but I was too young to remember most things. I feel bad for people who grew up in this situation and had to move out as an adult instead of getting out as a young kid

I, a young adult woman, am here to share an experience about growing up in this cult. One time we were in service and this brother told my sister and I that he had "never met a female" that was as quiet as us. We're both shy. That's literally it. Also, what makes u think I'd want to engage in conversation with u if you speak to me like that?... be so fr. Not to mention the times that I got scolded for wearing inappropriate things (it wasn't too many times, but it made me very self-conscious to the point that I still dress pretty conservatively)

I remember at a Witness picnic my JW Elder father asking me to get him a beer - which I promptly did. He then turned to another male friend and said “this is what girls are good at”. Ashamed to say I felt a bit proud! Now out 40+ years! I’m not ashamed to say I’m proud of my real accomplishments in life (college, retired from a Fortune 500 company with a great salary and benefits - insurance and pension!) All I want to do is shout from the tree tops WOMEN - please get an education. It will change your life forever!

I refused to attend the meetings at 15 after all my sisters and my mother had left. Having been raised as a JW from birth it completely took the rug out from underneath me. Everything I’d been taught was a lie. My dad is still a JW and he is a ministerial servant. He was an elder but stepped down after our family broke up because of the shame of them turning away from “the truth”. I love my dad dearly but when I look back on my youth it’s actually bonkers. I was discouraged to get a good education as when I turned 18 I would become a full time pioneer(go out door knocking) and then marry a Brother who would support me. I didn’t want that life. I’m a scientist working in microbiology now and have earned the respect of my peers in a predominantly male workplace environment. I’ve not married yet and don’t know if I ever will as I gravitate towards aggressive, controlling men as I was raised to believe I was in subjection to men and I didn’t realise how unhealthy and messed up that mindset is. I personally don’t think I’ll ever get over my past completely as that cut runs deep.

When I was pregnant, I got a massive telling off by a sister because my knees were showing. My clothes were creeping up as my stomach grew. I shrugged and asked her if she was going to take me shopping for maternity clothes. I was not popular in her house.
