The songs "What Is Love" and "History" were Exo's pre-debut songs when the group was introduced to the public in 2011. Then they came out with their debut song "Mama" April 2012, shortly followed by "Wolf", then the groundbreaking "Growl" that shot them into superstardom worldwide. They became so popular, and by 2013 (when baby Bts debuted) Exo started winning many awards at such a young age, including "Album of The Year" 5 years in a row at the MAMA"S, Artist of The Year, Best Male Group, Best Asian Style, and many more at various award shows (there are tons of shows) over the years starting from 2013 to 2019. They had many meet-ups at the Blue House with President Moon, and met Trump and Ivanka there (she's a fan) where they presented their CD to Trump. Chanyeol was visibly taken aback by Ivanka's beauty as they shook hands...😅 So Exo's popularity is as big as ever as they are starting their military service. Exo are pretty much a household name, they were acknowledged in Forbes, got a record in Guinness, and each member today have more than Exo and Exo sub-units, they are actors, musicians, songwriters, producers, choreographers, models, and are always on magazine covers. EXO started from nothing, even if they are coming from SM (one of the big 3 ents) doesn't mean they got what they have right not easily. They started small fanmeetings where there were only a few people attending, but eventually because of their TALENT they earned their fans. Also, EXO might not have crazy millions of VIEWS in their mvs, but they have already achieved a lot. SM is not allowing them to promote in America that's why they are only in Korea usually. The only reason Im stanning them is because of their TALENT and ATTITUDE. Thanks for listening.

since their from the big 3, it's obvious that it wouldn't have been easy for them to enter the company. There must've been tough competition. And even Baekhyun and Chen, now known as vocal kings, trained only for 3-4 months before debuting, shows that they were talented already. And exo promotes not only in korea, but china and Japan too. Exo has their largest fanbase in china with super rich chinese exo-Ls and have done too many concerts in japan (they couldn't perform in china bcoz of the political issue I guess). They're really popular in Asia. And would've been more if they promoted in the US and Europe. They deserve much more for the talent they have. ❤️😔

"What is Love" features the 4 main vocalists of EXO, so, in the EXO-K (Korean) version you only hear D.O. and Baekhyun's voices, but if you watch the EXO-M (Mandarin) version next you will see Chen and Luhan as the singers. These are the main vocalists from their respective groups. However, in the MV you see most of the members. The rest of the members aren't singing the song, but they are helping to tell a story. This was their very first pre-debut MV so it is setting up EXO's storyline and it's showing the members. This was before most people really even knew who EXO were. If you are going to try and follow EXO's storyline and understand their concept as a group then you need to watch both the EXO-K and EXO-M MVs of all their songs, at least until "Overdose," (and in my opinion, I think you should actually see both versions of ALL of their MVs) because EXO-M MVs and performances are just as important as the EXO-K versions. Now to explain the story in their what is Love" MV, if you notice, you see an eclipse is happening. The eclipse is what controls EXO's powers and it's where they get their power and strength from. So, that is why you see in most of their MVs that they focus on the moon or show an eclipse taking place, etc. EXO are aliens so staring at an eclipse or the sun doesn't affect them in the same way. After all they come from Planet Exo, which has two suns. LOL In the MV for "What Is Love." you see clips from some of their pre-debut teaser videos. All the clips in the MV are special clips that were originally released one at a time on their own to introduce EXO to the world, before the group's official debut. Before EXO debuted SM released 23 teaser videos over a 3 month period and the videos showcased the members and their talents, such as Kai's special dances and Tao's martial arts skills, as well as told a story about EXO who are on a quest to find each other and to find clues to locate the Tree of Life, etc. Kai was the member that was featured in the most teasers -- somewhere around 10 videos. The "What is Love" MV takes clips of those teaser videos and puts them together to make the MV. Months and years later, we have also discovered that the teasers also were teasers to EXO's discography of songs. At the time, when the teasers were released, we had no idea the significance of the songs that you hear in the teasers. But now, over the years, we have discovered that the majority of the songs that were featured in EXO's pre-debut teasers were also meant to be teasers to songs that would be released as some of the main tracks of EXO's albums. All the teasers are still on SM's KZbin channel if you want to check them out. If you watch the teasers, you will see how planned out everything EXO is involved in actually is. Most of the songs that they released even years after debut were songs that were teased to in their pre-debut teaser videos even before fans knew who EXO was. That just goes to show you why we say that everything EXO does comes back to their storyline. :D Absolutely everything has been planned out down to the most minute detail for years in advance and for years to come. However, not all of the songs you hear in the teasers were songs that made it to the albums or maybe they are songs that haven't been released yet. There are several songs in the teasers that we still don't know. Maybe they are songs that have not been released yet or maybe they may never exist as a full song. It's another part of EXO's mystery that we are waiting to discover. So you have to watch both "What is Love" MVs to see the different clips and try and figure out the story it is trying to tell. EXO's MVs may look similar, but in each version there are hidden messages and Easter eggs that SM puts in each MV that tell a little more of the story, even still today. Plus, in the Korean version they highlight the EXO-K members where in the Mandarin version they highlight the EXO-M members. It's a common misconception that just because EXO's 2 MVs look similar on the surface that you don't need to watch both versions, but if you skip the Mandarin version of EXO's MVs -- especially these early MVs when they were still a full group -- I guarantee you are going to miss a key part of their story. Plus, you miss out on hearing the EXO-M members and what the song sounds like in Mandarin. I wish more people would understand that SM didn't only make a Mandarin version of EXO's songs to appeal to their Chinese audience. EXO-M was very much a part of EXO's storyline and the EXO-M or Mandarin MVs are just as an important part of EXO's storyline as the Korean version. They actually shot two separate MVs for each version, so the parts that look the same were deliberately made to look the same and there are almost always subtle differences in both versions because it is telling the story from a different angle or from the other group's perspective. As the intro to "Mama" points out EXO are made up of two groups who stand on the same ground and see similar things and they stand on separate grounds and see the same thing. So even the most minute detail has a purpose within EXO's storyline, nothing is done by chance or random. And that still continues today, even though they don't promote as EXO-K and EXO-M any more, you will still see subtle nods to the EXO-M members and the role that their group plays in EXO's larger storyline. You often see moments in EXO's choreography where the EXO-M members who are still left are singled out or put together, etc. Because EXO-M's part of the story is still important to the storyline even when they are a group of 9. Not enough reactors give EXO-M credit. Why do people always pick the Korean version to react to and sell the EXO-M members short and not give them the views they deserve as well? There is no reason why the EXO-M version of EXO's songs should have about half as many views, and yet they do. If you are going to only react to one version, maybe consider reacting to the Mandarin version 50% of the time to give the EXO-M members the love that they deserve, too. The Mandarin version shouldn't give you any more copyright issues than the Korean version because they are produced and marketed by the same company. And in many cases I think the Mandarin version may give you less copyright issues because the "copyright police" are monitoring the Mandarin versions less closely because far less people react to those versions. :D Thanks for the consideration.

Being an SM artist isn't as easy as people think. SM is a big company, which is full of great talents, one must work very very hard otherwise you will be eliminated. I would love that while you react to their MV and also react to the fan made video which compiled EXO's tough time and their connection with EXO-Ls. EXO seldom share their difficult/hard time. I am 53 and only started stanning exo since last year eventhough i hv known them since their debut era. Only last year i started digging about Exo songs n stuffs after i watched Producer 101 contestants (reality show) sang 'Love shot' and got really amazed with the song and from there on it is history. I remember Kai once said in his concert that no matter how long you have supported EXO, even if you are new fans, EXO’s love to all EXO-L is the same. Same as you. I also knew EXO since their debut era, but I have never paid attention to them because I was stanning some 2nd generation groups at that time. Until 2015, I watched K-drama, “It’s okay, that’s love”. I was surprised that young new actor’s acting was so good, and I love the OST “Best Luck”. I was shook when I found out that both the young actor was D.O. and the OST singer was Chen were from EXO. I searched all of their stuff from there on. I cried for their hard time and happy for their great achievements. When I watched Baekhyun sang the national anthem at the Winter Olympics Committee meeting opening ceremony, I felt like a proud mom. Have you seen that clip on youtube? Actually that’s his 2 time singing the national anthem. The first time was at the National Soccer Tryout Match in 2013. No wonder EXO is the nation’s pick. I was so blessed to have attended their concert three times and still feel like dreaming seeing them live! Hope you could attend their concert one day!

Very sad to say i missed their last exoplanet 5 concert in my country (malaysia) late november last year. I just knew about it few weeks prior to the concert but by that time all the tickets were already soldout. Hmm 😭😭😭
