It is based on the little mermaid, the original faerie tale. In the Korean version they say "you won't become foam tonight" is like a re interpretation of the tale, were the prince die to save the mermaid ( in the original she supposed to kill him in order to go back to be a mermaid but she can't so she turns into sea foam.)

The story behind is another level At the end of the story, when the little mermaid wanted to kill the prince but she couldn't, the little mermaid vanished. But exo came with a romantic part. When she wanted to kill the prince and hesited to do so, the prince woke up and told her to do so, and comforted here with saying baby don't cry, after all you didn't know this would be coming And they left the door open for us So we don't know if he conviced her to kill him or not. I was touched by the song even before i know the story but after that it became my 2nd favourite song of exo Of course promise is the 1st one and you'll know why.

If you plan on reacting to the live version: You gotta see the one in Japan!!!! It‘s understandable why the K version is liked better by you guys. This album always has those nice Rnb adlibs or certain lines that fit a voice like Kyungsoo‘s the best. In my opinion this is D.O.‘s album. For the next album EXODUS in my opinion it‘s Baekhyun‘s album! Anyways baby dont cry is such a banger!!!!!
