EXO are definitely more story based. As a group their concept is that they're aliens from EXO planet, and they each have a power (for example Kai can teleport). The storyline isn't always immediately obvious, and you have to put the story from all of their videos together to work it out but it's crazy. Thankfully each video can also be enjoyed on its own for what it is

Before you guys ask: There's 9 members on EXO, but 1 of the members are inactive since 2017 because of political problems between China and Korea (He is Chinese). But he does solo songs, that I'm pretty sure you guys will love, his name is Lay and he does songs in English and Chinese/English. When you watch OBSESSION you will notice that there's only 6 members, that's because 2 members had to enlist the military and from now on the members of EXO is going to focus in their solo careers because they all have to go to the military. Now only 1 member is back from the military and there's 3 members enlisted now. All of the members will finish the military around 2024-2025. But YES, they are 9. If you react to older music videos, you will notice that in some there's 10 or 11 or 12 members, that's because 3 Chinese members left the group, but let's not get into it (They left one by one that's why the numbers 10/11/12). EXO is one of the biggest groups in Kpop-and were one of the ones that had an influential reach (spread of the “korean wave”) in the west and got a lot of people interested in kpop earlier back in 2012-2016. They were big game changers for their company and had a ton of huge hits: like Growl, which has kind of become one of Korea’s anthems since then. Since they’ve been around, they’ve broken records in album sales, all concerts venues sell out in about 0.6 seconds, won a ton of music awards, performed at the recent Seoul Korea Winter Olympics, and even were awarded metals by the Korean President for being so influential and important in Korea’s popularity and representing the country so well. They also some of the best singers in the industry (we’re talking male Korean Mariah Carey, Whitney, Adele kind of vocals), and Kai is one of the best dancers over there. EXO are NCTs label mates and their seniors. EXO debuted in 2012 and started out as a 12 member group divided in two; EXO-K (singing in Korean) and EXO-M (singing in Mandarin-Chinese). After three Chinese members left, they are now one group just called EXO, all singing in Korean, Chinese and Japanese. To understand what is happening in EXO's MVs you first have to understand the groups concept and and their basic storyline. Everything EXO is involved in, and I literally mean almost everything, is connected in some way to their concept and storyline. EXO's MVs are kind of like a movie -- it's a movie that has been going on for the past 8 years -- since predebut -- and it has no sign of coming to an end any time soon. The one thing you have to keep in mind with all of EXO's MVs, and I really mean all of them -- including their sub-sub-unit MVs and a majority of the member's solo MVs. And because Baekhyun and Kai are involved, even SuperM's storyline -- is that they are all connected and they all tell a little more of EXO's story and why they are on Earth, etc. To truly understand EXO you need to understand that EXO debuted in 2012. "Mama" is EXO's debut song and MV and It is how EXO was introduced to the world and it explains the group's concept. So to really understand EXO you need to start from the very beginning and watch BOTH of their "Mama" MVs (EXO-K and EX0-M). From day one, EXO's concept is that they are aliens from planet Exo and they came to Earth with superpowers to protect the Tree of Life from the Red Forces. Each of the members has a superpower that is unique to them and almost every MV will have at least one, if not all of them, using their powers. Exo, as in exoskeleton, means "outer," so as a member of EXO they are outside the ordinary.The group's concept comes from the real term exoplanet, which is a term that is used for a planet that is outside our solar system, so their name was chosen to represent the fact that they are stars that are "out of this world" when it comes to their talents. SM Entertainment, and its founder, Lee SooMan, has all of EXO's release dates and concepts planned out for years in advance, and everything down to the most minute of details is connected. So, each new MV or project from EXO tells another part of the story, and over the years we fans have started to create a timeline and idea of what we think each part of the story is telling us. In EXO's "Love Shot" MV, one theory is that the members are fighting to discover who has been corrupted by the Red Force and who may not be who they say they are, etc., which I see as a sort of continuation of the story in their "Tempo." MV which is why you see them being very suspicious pointing their guns -- which are filled with alcohol -- at each other. (Get it? the song is called "Love Shot" so it has a double meaning: Love Shot like a gun and Love Shot like a shot of alcohol. :D) Kai is in the center for most of EXO's choreography because he is EXO's main dancer and he is literally supposed to be the center of EXO. Kai means door or gateway so Kim JongIn (Kai) was given the stage name Kai because as the center he is supposed to be the one that connects all the members together. It is Kai's job within EXO's storyline to find all the members and help them reunite in order to stop the Red Force and locate the Tree of Life, etc. That is also why he was given the ability to teleport. Nothing EXO does is random or without a purpose, it all is connected and is part of the group's concept and storyline. Plus, Kai is one of the top two BEST dancers in the entire industry. And I'm not exaggerating -- it's not just a fan's opinion, but it's a title given to him by his peers and the industry as a whole. (Taemin, from SHINee -- Kai's best friend and fellow SuperM member -- is the other top dancer.) Kai stands out because there is literally no one who is a better dancer and performer than Kai and Taemin. And as part of EXO's storyline, Kai is meant to stand out and be noticed. As for the story within "Love Shot," I'm not sure why they first ended up at the gas/service station or the cinema/movie theater, but the story in this MV is all about how the Red Force is trying to corrupt and control them. For example, supposedly, most fans agree, that Xiumin may have been captured by the Red Force. If you notice, Xiumin is squaring off with a group of guys with guns, but a few seconds later we see someone with a mask and when the mask is removed you see that it's Xiumin, which seems to show that he may not be who we think he is. And when Chen is sitting in the theater watching the film, you see what fans agree is probably Suho, as the leader, covering Chen's eyes as he tries to protect the members by preventing Chen from watching the film. The movie is thought to probably be the Red Force trying to control EXO with whatever is being shown on the screen, etc. You also see references to the movie screen with Chen being projected on the screen in their MV for "Lucky One" and the scene where Suho is running through the forest in their MV for "For Life," etc. These instances seem to be showing times when the Red Force are using the videos to brainwash EXO and to keep them incapacitated so they don't try to fight back or escape, etc. EXO has no use for money -- money is the root of all evil and it is thought to be one of the ways the Red Force may be corrupting humanity, by using our materialistic greed and need to accumulate wealth, etc. Like we see in EXO's MVs for "Lotto"/"Monster" for instance. So by burning large sums of money EXO are eliminating that temptation and preventing the Red Force from having control, etc. The flowers have two purposes, one is they represent Love and EXO is collecting love, but also the flowers are a big part of EXO's storyline. There has been a flower theme that continues throughout all of EXO's MVs. The flowers are thought to be something that EXO is collecting and trying to get rid of to prevent the Red Force from being able to control people, etc. They often collect the flowers and then burn them, like you see in "Love Shot" and in EXO-CBX's "Hey Mama." Blue roses also have some sort of significance, but I am not sure what yet -- we see EXO with a blue rose in their concert performances of "Lightsaber" and we see Sehun with a blue rose in "Love Shot." Some of what happens in this story is explained by past MVs and other parts will hopefully, be explained as the story continues in future MVs. Baekhyun is actually one of the main characters in EXO's storyline so he is often set apart or singled out in their MVs. He is often the one that stands alone or is highlighted in the story. In their "Power" MV Baekhyun has been singled out and is sort of separated from the other members. Which seems to suggest maybe Baekhyun is the only member that hasn't been corrupted by the Red Force. So that is why in "Tempo" and in "Love Shot" we see Baekhyun standing on top of the building looking down on the rest of the members, almost as if he is observing them from another dimension or from another time period. Baekhyun is often the one who is going behind the sense to help EXO. For example, we see him disguised as a member of the police as he rescues the other members from the back of the police van in "Monster," and we see Baekhyun facing off with and confronting Xiumin in "Love Shot," etc. :D And now that we have discovered that the Red Force has created X-EXO, EXO's evil clones, as part of their "Obsession" MV story, I am also starting to think that maybe in "Love Shot" we aren't just seeing EXO. I think maybe when we see the members dressed in the bright colors -- for example, when they are in their suites -- this might be X-EXO and when we see the scenes were they are in black, this could be EXO. Because in "Obsession" we find out that the members in all black are EXO the good guys, and when we see them in the colorful outfits with the crazy hair and makeup that is their X-EXO alter ego clones. This could also explain why Kai is dressed in a red suit. Although, I am sure their stylists put him in red because he looks really good in it, I think SM chose it because it's another hidden message within the storyline. Usually, whenever we see red in EXO's MVs this has something to do with the Red Force, so for a long time I have been wondering why then would they put Kai in a red suit? However, now that we know about the X-EXO members, I am starting to think that when we see the members in their colorful suits and clothing in "Love Shot" this is actually the X-EXO members, so when we see Kai in red this is his alter ego clone, as well as the other members when we see them in suits, etc. I also think maybe the members who are collecting all the flowers in "Love Shot" are really X-EXO, as part of some evil plot, etc. If you look at the members expressions and the outfits they are wearing in the scenes where you see them collecting the flowers, this reminds me a lot of what they looked like in their MV for "Ko Ko Bop." Since "Obsession," theories now think that what the "Ko Ko Bop" MV was showing us was X-EXO right after they were created as they are becoming acclimated to the world and learning how to use their powers, etc. Which would explain why everything in the "Ko Ko Bop" MV is so brightly colored as well. It is even thought that NCT's storyline could be connected to EXO's story, as well as SM's girl groups Red Velvet and aespa's storylines. It's all considered part of the SM universe. But you should also know that no one really knows for sure what is happening in any of EXO's MVs. There are well known theories and storylines that are accepted within the fandom which we think might explain what is happening in each MV. And there are theories about how each MV is connected and where each falls within their larger storyline, but nothing is set in stone. As we have discovered with EXO's latest installment of their story with "Obsession," fan theories are constantly evolving and changing with every new piece of the puzzle and now it has completely changed what we thought we understood about almost everything in their previous MVs.

The “Love Shot” is their previous single of their repackaged album ‘Dont Mess With My Tempo’. The guns filled with liquid, it’s a play on taking shots (drinking) but also a play on sniper’s shot to the head nicknamed “Love Shot”; the choreography mimickes both meanings. Within their storyline EXO are seen battling against “the red force” evildoers trying to attack & captor them which you see a standoff happening in the music video. KEEP IN MIND allot of their older music videos aren’t subbed so you’ll have to look up the lyrics & meanings. SM Ent only recently started adding subtitles and the MVs don’t reflect their storyline so don’t look within the videos for the meanings.

I'm so glad you guys are enjoying the kpop journey, I think a lot of people just discredit kpop bc they think it's gonna be corny or something when there's so many kpop groups and everyone of them has a different flavor you can't compare. A lot of people recommended SuperM, they are a great mix of all three groups (Shinee is gonna be back soon as well!), and they dropped a bomb album last year!
