Actually Lucky One isn't a B-side, the album had double title tracks. But monster overshadowed Lucky One 🥺

Yes, the numbers you see on all the EXO members' collars of their shirts in "Lucky One" are each of their special numbers, just like you saw on the back of their shirts in their "Cream Soda" dance practice video and in their acoustic medley performance in concert. They are special numbers chosen by each of the members. For example: > Suho's number is 1 because as the leader he is No. 1 and he was the first one to be made a member of EXO. > Kris -- a former member of EXO-M (EXO's Mandarin Chinese sub-unit) that left EXO in 2014 -- his number was 00 because he was the leader of EXO-M (It was said that Suho was the mom of the group and Kris was the dad and when you combine 1 and 00 it becomes 100 or 100% complete as leaders.) > Xiumin's number is 99, which the reason is a little complicated -- 88 is morse code for XOXO, which is shorthand for hugs and kisses, or it can also mean EXO like their album title XOXO. Plus, during EXO's "Wolf" song era, which is when the idea of their numbers was first developed, Xiumin's teaser promoting their "Wolf" comeback was the 11th teaser released, so 88+11= 99. > Luhan -- a former member of EXO-M, who left the group in 2014 -- chose number 7 because his favorite soccer player's number is 7. > Lay is 10 because he was born in October and also in Chinese there is a saying that uses the word 10 and it means perfection, so it's a play on words. > Baekhyun is 4 because 4th grade was when he started to get interested in becoming a singer. > Yep, you're right, Chen's number is 21 (Sept. 21) because it's his birth date. > Chanyeol's number is 61 because his nickname growing up was Park Chanho, who is a famous Korean baseball player, and his jersey number is 61. > D.O.'s number is 12 because it represents his birth date (Jan. 12) and it also stands for 12 members of EXO. > Tao -- a former member of EXO-M, who left the group in 2015 -- was 68 because 6+8=14 and this was the date his "Wolf" MV teaser was released. > Kai's number is 88, and his reason is also a little more complex. As mentioned before, 88 stands for XOXO (hugs and kisses/EXO), which was the name of their "Wolf" album, etc. But Kai chose the number because H is the 8th letter in the English alphabet and HH stands for hip-hop, which he used to represent the fact that he is the main dancer. > And you're also right, Sehun is 94 because he was born in 1994.

Lucky One MV is about the Red Force (ladies with red visors) capturing EXO and doing experiments on them/drugging them (that's why they have weirdly blank eyes), and them trying to escape from the lab using their powers, but it's a maze (which is actually the Overdose logo at the end) and the Red Force is actually watching them do it all. I won't go more in depth because there are a million theories but this I think all of them has in common. Universe (in my interpretation at least) is about the hardships/problems in life. Like, things being complicated (Sehun with the stacked chair game), being tense and feeling anger over them (Xiumin's scrunched napkin), restricting (Chanyeol and the sweater), tangled (strings, both on the painting and Sehun trying to detangle it on the table), feeling imprisoned (Kai tied in the chair), trying so hard to perfect everything (Kai with the many failed cups of coffee on the table while the members are making coffee themselves), sometimes even generating the problems by ourselves/complicating it (Chen drawing the scribbles). There might be more metaphors but you get the idea. The members are all sitting together at the table but no one is focusing on each other = everyone is dealing with their own problems. When the music changes and the coffee is given to another member, to me, that means reaching out, giving your best effort and being kind to other people, interacting, solving things together, etc. If that happens, everything gets better, everything becomes easy, uncomplicated, relaxed. The coffee gets perfect (everyone is drinking it), the string gets detangled (shown both as a lone string and as a different painting), Chanyeol isn't restricted anymore, everyone is smiling and chatting... I think there are a few EXO related personal things in it too (the black and white scenes with the members; also the tangled string painting is in a hexagon shape like the logo, then it changes to one swipe = we are one). So yeah, that's how I look at it but as always there are other theories. :) Sorry for the ramble but I thought I would add my few cents ^^"

Universe is the title track of the last winter album exo released back in 2017. In case you don't know, other than full albums exo used to release "winter albums" towards the end of the year with the title tracks being ballads, the most famous one being "Miracles in December". - Miracles in December in 2013 - Sing For You in 2015 - For Life in 2016 - Universe in 2017 and a fun fact for Lucky One: the members HATE the choreo for it a hilarious ammount lol

Let me explain one of the theories behind the story in EXO's "Universe" MV. First off, "Universe", as you are discovering, with most everything to do with EXO, is connected to EXO's concept and storyline. So some of the scenes are designed to make connections to EXO's story. The most obvious point is that in the lyrics they are talking about "Searching the Universe" for that lost or missing love. So you can see how that parallels how EXO are searching the universe for the Tree of Life and for a way to fix everything that is going wrong, etc. The theme of the MV is “cafe universe" and one theory is that the story is being told through coffee metaphors. As you may remember, EXO's official fan color is Cosmic Latte -- the color that is said to be created when you combine all the colors of the stars in the universe -- which is thought to be why this whole MV uses the creamy tan and brown tones and why it is centred around coffee. In order to understand what is happening in the MV, you should be aware that the story is not unfolding in chronological order. The plot is more like an explanation of feelings than a straight storyline. One theory is that the coffee is a metaphor for the feelings of bitterness. Two guys share a coffee, but they both hate its bitter taste. They think that if they add something to it, it will be less bitter. One person (Chanyeol) wanted to fix things by making it sweet, so he decided to add sugar. The other guy (Suho) tries to fix things with a more mellow, smooth approach, so he adds milk or cream to the coffee. However, there are limits to everything, and even when you have the best of intentions, you can take things too far. As the leader of the group, Suho wants to smooth things over, so he keeps adding milk as he tries to cover the bitterness, but in doing so it also masks the sweetness of the sugar and the pure taste of the coffee. So this is where you see the cup overflow as it is overpowered by everything being added to it. By covering the bitterness with an overwhelming amount of cream and sugar it has now made the coffee something neither one wants to drink. So in other words, making hasty decisions without considering others feelings, viewpoints and opinions will ruin relationships in the process. The story seems to primarily focus on Suho, Chanyeol, and Sehun. Some theories say that it looks as though Suho and Chanyeol are not on good terms. Which is thought to be a continuation of how we saw Chanyeol and Suho fighting in "Sing For You," but instead of solving the conflict by talking it out, they turn their backs and build a wall around the problem. At one point you see Chanyeol with his back turned and his cup sitting upside down, and he is staring blankly at an empty spot, which is thought to be Suho's place. The conflict is affecting their friendship as a group and Sehun wants to help his friends. But it is unclear what Suho and Chanyeol are really fighting about because they are hiding their true feelings and are passivagressivly pretending like everything is OK. This is where Kai, Baekhyun, Chen and Xiumin enter the plot. Some theories have interpreted the teaser images from "Universe" as showing the members split into two groups. It is thought that Chen, Baekhyun, Xiumin and Kai represent the internal struggles of the group because we see them in the MV and in the teaser images for "Universe" sitting at the table almost as if they are restless and struggling to come up with an answer for how to fix things or to smooth things over, etc. And the other members -- Suho, Chanyeol, D.O. and Sehun -- represent the physical manifestation of that conflict. Sehun figures that if he understands his friends' (Suho and Chanyeol) internal struggles he can figure out how to fix things. Sehun's internal struggle is depicted by Xiumin who contemplates how he can fix his friends’ mistakes (Kai and Baekhyun). You see Xiumin sitting at the table with a glass of water and tissue paper. Mirroring the problems caused by Chanyeol and Suho, we see Baekhyun add too much sugar to the coffee and Kai adds too much milk to the cup and spills the coffee. However, Xiumin seems to have come up with a solution: water can dilute the sugar and make it less sweet and the tissue can clean up the spilled coffee. D.O. and Chen are the two that are thought to represent the bitterness of the coffee in their parallel groups. Chen scribbles on the paper almost as if this represents the internal struggle that the group is going through, as if the pain, emotion and conflict is just a big mess that they are struggling to work out. Kai (who is representing Suho's internal struggles) blames himself as the reason for Chen's scribbles (Chen represents the coffee's bitterness, which is the problems within the group). Kai's (Suho's internal struggle) guilt becomes so encompassing that it turned those scribbles into physical ropes that tied him up and traped him. At one point you see Kai sitting at the table covered with cups of coffee. Each cup is different and that is thought to represent a different memory of moments in their friendship. Each memory is unique and special, but Kai seems to be overwhelmed by it all. He sits with his head on the table trying to sort out all his feelings and emotions, etc. But if you notice, what he is focused on the entire time is the plate of sugar cubes. But before Kai's guilt (Suho's internal struggle) can really consume him, Sehun steps in and gives him a new cup of coffee. Allowing Kai to have the chance to start over. Sehun also handed Kai a saucer with sugar cubes. He knows that Kai's (Suho's) regret is rooted in the fact that he was not able to give his friend Baekhyun (Chanyeol) the simple taste of sweet coffee. Which is a metaphor for not being able to provide a simple fix to their problems. If Kai (Suho) can make the coffee the perfect amount of sweet for Baekhyun (Chanyeol) this time he may be able to move on and stop holding on to the guilt, regret and anger, etc. which will help to resolve the conflict within the group. Also, it seems as though parts of the story are being told from Kai's point of view. Some theories think that this connects to the story in their "Sing For You" MV as well. In "Sing For You," Kai was the one that seemed to be interpreting the emotions in that MV through his dance, so some say he is also the interpreter of what is happening in "Universe." Next you see that the table becomes empty and the only things remaining are the sugar cubes, the cup of coffee and the glass of water. Some say the sugar represents their ability to carefully create a sweeter future, while the water is a reminder not to repeat past mistakes. In the end, Kai decides not to add anything to the coffee, and instead, he gives Baekhyun the coffee in its pure black bitter form. Because he has now learned that there is no reason for them to keep trying to change each other. As bitter as life can be, they come to the conclusion that they should accept its imperfections -- that in friendships, there will be struggles and misunderstandings, but sugarcoating it or pretending that everything is watered down or milky good, isn't being honest with themselves. Which is what is really happening within Suho and Chanyeol -- they may be sitting next to each other but deep inside, they're opposing one another as shown through Kai and Baekhyun's actions. On the surface it seems as though the members are all talking about their friendships and the struggles they had over the past few years. But, as we have discovered with many of EXO's songs, SM has actually been planning their song releases and MV storylines since their pre-debut days, way back in 2012, as we hear in EXO's pre-debut teasers. So, if that is the case, then that was before EXO had even gone through any of their major struggles as a group, so I think the meaning of "Universe" may have evolved only because we as listeners have reinterpreted it to fit a new narrative. That's the beauty of songs like this, you can interpret it however you want and make it fit whatever story you want or need it to.

If you are trying to understand what is happening in EXO's "Lucky One," you have to be aware of what was happening in some of their other MVs. I think the story in "Lucky One" takes place right after the story in EXO's "Overdose" MV. If you remember, in "Overdose" they were trapped in the maze by the Red Force and the maze caused them to be disoriented and prevented them from using their powers at full strength. Somehow the maze lowered their defenses, which allowed the Red Force to capture them and take them to the lab where we see them in "Lucky One." I think sometime between when the "Overdose" MV ends and "Lucky One" begins, the Red Force transferred EXO from the rooms we see them in "Overdose" to wherever they are in "Lucky One." As we discovered at the end, they are all still within the same maze. Therefore, the story in the "Lucky One" MV has to do with the fact that they have been captured by the Red Force and are being held against their will in a lab where the Red Force are trying to do experiments on them, in order to figure out what makes EXO different, or to figure out how to control them, or to figure out how to prevent them from having their connection to the Tree of Life, or maybe, even figure out how to clone them like we see has happened in their "Obsession" MV, etc. They are all straight faced and Baekhyun's eyes look weird, etc. because they are all currently drugged by the Red Force and are in a sleepy, unconscious stuper. As they fight to break free from the Red Forces' control, they are each using their powers, such as Chanyeol using his power of fire, D.O. makes the windows break with his power of force, Chen -- who has the power of thunder, which means he also has control of lightning (electricity created by nature) -- zaps the women with his power of electricity, Kai teleports from room to room and Suho uses his power of controlling water to try and reverse the chemicals from entering his body from the IV bag, etc. We also see D.O. struggling as he tries to use his super strength to break free from his restraints when he is lying in the bed. In the Korean version, we see Suho trapped in that room that looks like it is filled with smoke, but because Suho has the power to control water, I think the room is really filled with steam or fog and the Red Force is experimenting with ways to get rid of his powers, etc. And, if you watch the Mandarin version, you will see Xiumin trapped in that room. Xiumin is a member of EXO-M and he has the power to control snow/ice/frost, which makes him Suho's power counterpart and gives him some of the same natural elements when it comes to their powers. Xiumin creates a drinking glass made out of ice that Suho fills with water for them to drink from as they try to escape. As far as I know, this is just showing that they still have the ability to use their powers. It also may give them strength to continue because the are accessing their powers. As the members are working to escape, we see Baekhyun struggles to summon his power -- which is the ability to control light -- because he was given a darkness poison. The black liquid we see the nurse lady inject into the IV was attached to Baekhyun and it is thought they were injecting him with darkness to stop his ability to control light, which causes him to quickly sit up in bed as he is awakened from his drugged sleep state. His eyes look "creepy" because he has been injected with darkness and its reflected in his eyes. If you notice, when Baekhyun is trying to break out and he is standing in that dark room with Chanyeol, Chanyeol has to use his power of fire to light the way, because the theory is that Baekhyun is unable to access his power of light due to the drugs that are currently in his system. Chanyeol has red hair in this MV because it's connected to the fact that he also has red hair in EXO's "Monster" (and "Lotto) MV. I have a feeling his red hair is an indication that he may not be the EXO version of Chanyeol, but he could be the X-EXO alter ego clone created by the Red Force, or the Red Force could be controlling him in order to infiltrate EXO and gain secrets, etc. The women are robots, and they are part of the Red Forces' arsenal -- that is why they are wearing those red visors. This explains why Chen is able to electrocute them and they just fall down and stop working, and why they are able to explode their heads in a puff of smoke, etc. Sehun controls wind, so he was able to use wind to push the robots over and deactivate them, etc. Because they are using their powers, they don't have to touch them to defeat them. In EXO's MVs when we see red light or anything that is red, this represents the Red Force, and when we see blue light or anything that is blue, this is thought to represent EXO. Therefore, when we see red and blue in one scene, or purple -- red and blue mixed together make purple -- this is showing how the line between the two sides is being blurred and they are fighting each other, etc. Lay was able to use his power of healing to deactivate the robot woman because he tricks her into short circuiting by getting her to focus on the beauty of the flower. Lay has the ability to heal anything that is living -- including bringing flowers back to life. :D At one point we see Chen standing in front of a screen with his image projected on the movie screen behind him because some theories think that this connects to EXO's "Love Shot" MV, as well as their "For Life" MV. In "Love Shot" we see the members -- and specifically Chen -- in a movie theater and they are in a trance staring at the movie screen. We think whatever is being played on the movie screen is connected to the Red Force. It is thought the Red Force is using the movie to keep the members brainwashed and incapacitated so they don't try to fight back and escape from the maze that they are trapped in. And we see Suho being controlled by the images on the movie screen in their "For Life" MV, etc. (Now we even think it could be connected to the scene with Chen and Xiumin in the theater in EXO's new "Let Me In" MV.) Although it may seem random, Kai has those dance breaks because, one of the theories is, it's his job to distract the robots so the other members have a chance to use their powers, and it gives them time to figure out how to escape. Kai's superpower is teleportation, so normally he would be able to escape almost any situation by just teleporting out of there, but because of the drugs that the Red Force may have given him and/or the experiments they have done on him, he might not be able to use his powers at the moment. He also might just be choosing to stick around in order to help the other EXO members out and to make sure everyone escapes. As the center of the group, its Kai's job to be the one to bring all the members together. When we see Kai dancing suspended in space, this could be him in a dream-like state as he is trying to break out of the drugged state the Red Force has him in. The meteors/ice cubes we see floating around him and the planet behind him could be a foreshadowing of things to come in future MVs, such as a nod to the planet that is on fire at the end of their "Obsession" MV and the meteor we see crashing toward Earth in their "Let Me In" MV, as well as all the meteors and apocalyptic scenes we see in a lot of other SM group MVs, etc. as part of the SM Culture Universe that connects the storylines between all of SM's groups and artists. Also, if you pay attention to Kai's dance, you might notice that the dance he was doing in "Lucky One" was the choreography to "Monster." This was a little Easter egg that SM used to give us secret clues that make connections between the two MVs. "Lucky One" and "Monster" are from the same album and both MVs were released back-to-back. However, there are subtle things in all of EXOs MVs that, if you are paying close attention, you will see things that are hidden messages and clues that give nods to other moments in other MVs. "Lucky One" and "Monster" are from EXO's Ex'Act album and the MVs were actually both released on the same day, June 9, 2016. So, they were the two songs that were promoted together. Everything EXO does has something to do with their storyline and their origin story, including every single one of their MVs, most of their sub-unit MVs, Solo MVs, live performances and choreography, as well as teaser videos and concert VCRs. Nothing is random or done without a specific purpose and meaning and it's our job as fans to piece it all together. However, most of the time the story in the lyrics of the song is separate from the story in the MV. EXO's songs are about being in love with a girl or wanting to be with a girl, but their MVs are about them battling the Red Force and about telling the next piece of their storyline. What makes EXO even more complicated, is we have to view their MV as loosely based around their song lyrics, but also separate. Just as their storyline is thought to be based on the fact that each comeback may be a different dimension or era of EXO's story, we also have to analyze their story in the lyrics of their songs separate from the story in the MV, but be prepared to make connections between the two as well. (I know, confusing, right?) Even though we don't see any choreography in the "Lucky One" MV, they have choreography that goes with the song. Because they promoted with this song on music shows, they had to have a dance. If you haven't yet, check out a live performance of "Lucky One" to see the choreography and to hear how they sound even better, and are even more impressive, live.
