Ballads are really not my choice, esp in the last years, but Exo ballads are something else. They are never cheesy ballads and always filled with emotions that come through the song even if i don't understand what the heck they are saying. Exo speaks to me and even if i can't translate their words, i understand. It has been 8 years with them for me, and i will forever love them, i know it's not gonna change because their talent is real. Thank you for reacting to Exo again!

As you can see, "Miracles In December" actually features the 4 main vocalists in EXO. In the EXO-M version you see that Luhan sings instead of D.O. Luhan was one of the main vocalist in EXO-M. Chen and Luhan are both EXO-M members so they sang the Mandarin songs, and to round out the vocals Baekhyun subbed in as an EXO-M member. :D "Miracles in December" is part of EXO's winter comeback releases, so, as you heard, it's a ballad. EXO's winter albums are always their ballad albums. Up until the last few years EXO used to come out with 3 to 4 albums a year -- a summer album that was more of their mainstream hype songs and a repackaged album a few weeks later, and then, in the winter, they would release another album that was more of a holiday album and it was all slower ballad songs. But the last few years EXO's first comeback of the year hasn't been until the end of the year -- for example, Don't Mess Up My Tempo was released in November 2018 and the Obsession album didn't come out until November 2019. So, I guess, because the first album and repackage were released so late in the year, SM decided that releasing a winter holiday album would just be too soon after the other album. So we haven't gotten a new winter album for several years now. Which I think is a shame because EXO's ballads are really beautiful and I enjoy them almost more than their other songs. Now to explain what is happening in the story in the MV. If you notice, Xiumin was the one that made it snow. Xiumin has the power to control ice/frost/snow, so anytime something has to do with these weather elements they will focus on him. In the MV you see Xiumin in the red sweater and the black vest with the lapel pin that is shaped like EXO's logo. He steps outside and looks up at the sky and at that moment his pin shimmers and it begins to snow. It is thought that the members' powers are tied to their emotions, so when Xiumin is sad or melancholy, he almost can't help it, and he will make it snow. And, as you may have noticed, Tao is the one that turned back time and then instantly brought time back to the present again, because he has the power to control time. The snow was falling in reverse at one point because Tao was rewinding time. Then you see everything pause for a second and the snow starts falling down again when he brings everything back to the present. As you also probably saw, there was an eclipse. Eclipses affect the members powers and it is also where they gather strength, etc. So you will see them focus on an eclipse or something to do with the moon and sun, or other planetary phenomenon, in a lot of EXO's storyline. This even happens in live performances. You will see instances of them using their powers to control things that happen on stage during live concert performances. Suho makes it rain on stage, Xiumin will make it snow, Chanyeol will control fire, Chen will control the thunder and lightning, Baekhyun often makes the lights go on and off, etc. If you keep this all in mind when you watch any of their MVs or live performances, it's kind of fun to search for the instances where they are using their powers. In some MVs and songs the members use their powers more than others, but at least one member will use their powers in almost everything they do, it just might be more subtle sometimes than others. So this is just another element of EXO's performances that make watching them unique. "Miracles in December" is a kind of breakup song that is about how the holidays makes you nostalgic for that loved one that you are no longer with. It makes you remember all the good times and makes you wish you were together even though you know, deep down, you are better off now that you have broken up. All the gifts are supposed to be what they would have given to their girlfriends if they hadn't broken up before the holidays. I interpret the story as, "she" was a different girl for each of the members, and "she" was not meeting any of them, she was a memory of a past relationship that was no more. That's why Tao turns back time for a moment to relive being in the relationship, but then quickly returns to the present because he knows, deep down, he is better off and that you really can't go back in time and expect to fix everything in the relationship. That's why they are all sad and crying because they are heartbroken. I like to think, for example, that the puppy was probably going to be a present for Kai's girlfriend, but now that they have broken up, it just reminds him of her. it's kind of a bittersweet memory. :D The "miracle" is that the girl had such a profound impact on their life that, even though they aren't together anymore, she will always play a big role in his life history, etc. The "miracle" is that the holidays give you a reason to look back and reflect on those special moments in life, and even though the memories might make them sad because they are no longer able to make new memories together, the old memories are still there. And the "miracle" is that he has now realized she has taught him so much about love and life, but unfortunately, he has realized it too late and he can't go back, so he is sad. He's now upset because he is unable to show her the appreciation she deserves, etc., etc. If you like the studio version of "Miracles in December," just wait until you see them perform this song live. I think it will grow on you even more. :D

As others have said, ballads are not me either, but EXO hit on another level - those vocals move me, especially the harmonies. There are others that are great, Cosmic Railway, Oasis, Angel, Sing for You to name a few, but if you like the simple, uncomplicated, try Kai's solo Vanilla. For that piano sound, Baekhyun's live versions of My Answer and My Turn to Cry where he accompanies himself on the piano, or Chanyeol playing live for D.O. For Life, or his cover of All Of Me. EXO can do any style you want to hear. Thank you for doing the Chinese version as well.

Love the dog cuddles at the end very fitting with the song. I also really liked your breakdown. I think for me the part that says “The one thing I can’t do is bring you to me. I wish I didn’t have this useless power anymore” Is saying that they were able to reflect about themselves in their relationship and that allows them to grow but it’s useless for the relationship with the person they are missing since that relationship is over. Also maybe instead of the word “Thankful”in that one spot it’s more like “a gift” because their love helped them become a better person for future relationships. Anyways just my random thoughts. Every exo song is magical. They have a song call " baby don't cry" that is inspired by the little mermaid fairytale ( the original version not the Disney one) but from the point of view of the Prince. El Dorado is epic sounding and inspiring. Chen is probably the master of heartbreaking beautiful slow songs and ballads. His first mini album makes you cry, break your soul and then mend it all back again. Now the 31 he is releasing his 3rd mini album and rumors has it is at the same level. I want to recommend two slow songs and a more funky one from EXO-SC, the Rappers duo subunit. "Daydreamin" and "Jet Lag" ( I don't think they are ballads but I'm not sure I just love those songs. they don't have MV) and "1 billion views"

EXO's vocals with strings on a ballad song never fails to give me goosebumps. Just want to close my eyes and enjoy the eargasmic sound they give. I always listen to their slower songs at the end of the day. It soothes me. I listen to WAIT, JUST AS USUAL, A SMILE ON MY FACE, ANGEL, DON'T GO and RUNAWAY daily like sort of National Anthem before going to sleep. Haha I just love the harmonizations and adlibs on these songs. Hope you check them out as well. Always enjoy your EXO reactions.. for lyric videos I recommend Oohmaya channel.
