You’re right, Xiumin doesn’t get enough credit. Promise was written and composed by Lay, with the Korean lyrics wrote by Chen and the rap written by Chanyeol. It was created in 2014 after 2 members left. Promise was released in 2015 after Tao left. The song was meant to explain everything that happened to them in 2014 with the members leaving the company and "breaking their promise" to EXO-L to always be one. (EXO's slogan is "We Are One" -- one as a group and one with their fans. So, when the Chinese members left, the rest of the members felt like as a group they broke that promise.) It's an apology to the fans. EXO is saying they are sorry for causing the fans pain and for making EXO-L’s sad. As the song says, EXO promises that they will always protect EXO-L and make them smile. I hope Xiumin and D.O. recover quickly. Happy EXO-L day everyone ❤️

Yes. It's a song composed by Lay who wrote the Chinese lyrics for it and then Chen and Chanyeol wrote the Korean lyrics. It was after the two members left and around the time Tao was about to leave (he was injured during this concert). This is their apology to EXO-Ls for not staying together and for hurting them and a promise to protect us 💞
