General rule as you modify - For each 300LB add-on, (i.e. overland tent, UD60s, frequent towing, rock climbing, etc.) go UP ONE gear ratio. The gear ratios installed on a Jeep are (from smallest to largest): 4.10 / 4.56 / 4.88 / 5.13 / 5.38

With all that weight and tire, I’d go 5.13. Most of the time it’ll be under power from the 2.0 so gear it that way.

I think there's some weirdness on the JKU table: there's three transmission option for the 3.6 and one for 3.8, and then the hemi swaps you lucky bastards get to have there... anyway, I think the "3.6 auto" should read "3.8 auto" and the "3.6 5spd" should be "3.6 auto". Afaik there never was a 5 spd manual for JK/JKU, and I don't think 3.6 auto should say "LOL" for 40" tires. I'd would definitely need new gears for that, but it's doable.

Bloody hell guys. This is making an impossible choice even more impossible. When I saw your awesome videos on which Jeep Gladiator to buy I was dead set on buying JT sport S with Max Tow package and regearing. Ok great. Here in florida they are bloody impossible to find. Every single sport in drivable vicinity is 3.73 and just regular sport and those that are max tow cost same as a gladiator rubicon. So I started looking at rubicons of which I have near me in abundance. 4.10 gears. Acoording to website you guys recommend 4.88 for 35s and 5.13 for 37s. Greeeeaaaaat.... On the scale of Mr. Alex Trebec... how badly do you want to regear an expensive rubicon I take "can I get by without doing it for $100?" I took my tacoma to moab for 6 weeks and colorado for 6 weeks and decided that I will never in my life do trails more difficult than elephant hill which is rated 3.5-4/10. I did that in long bed taco sr5 with stock gearing on 33s. Keeping that in mind... thought of shelling out $1,800 to regear 4.10 to 5.13 seems like I would really like to avoid. Lord... why does it have to be so difficult. I wonder if I can just get by with staying with 4.10 on rubicon I am basically about to buy (since I cant find sport s max tow locally) and slap 35s or 37s on there with a lift kit?!

And I’m able to get 7th on normal streets at 50-55 mph. This is with the stock 3.73 gears.

It’s not harder on the engine running in 6th with a taller rear end vs 8th with a lower rear end if they run the same RPM. What matters is the total reduction not the axle ratio. Getting 7th and 8th back mainly help with having more gear choices available.

My TJ has the inline six with the three speed auto and 31" tires. It was a rental in Hawaii and has 3.07 differentials which is perfect for highway and fireroads but in 4WD low on steep rough downhills it overspeeds to 15mph so I have to ride the brakes to crawl and have burnt up a coupla sets of brakes. I don't see how upping the diffs will help (4.5+- diffs would only slow it down to 7mph). Maybe an Atlas transfer case with super low 4WD would work but that's a 2-3 thousand dollar solution. Mechanics have told me the Dana 30-35s work best with low ratio pinion gears like a 3.07 because there's more meat on the pinion gear and less torque transmitted to the differential, practically unbreakable. Upping to 4.88 diffs doubles the torque through a smaller pinion gear and is asking for trouble especially with bigger tires. The say upgrading to Dana 44s and stronger axles should be done if you go to 4.88 differentials if you run bigger tires. I'm happy with my 31" tires and 3.07 diffs but am troubled by downhill 4WD speeds and it appears there's no solution except thousand dollar upgrades. Any advice?

Don’t be afraid to re-gear! What they’re saying is true but it doesn’t happen nearly as much as people worry about it. Go ahead and get some power back!
@KTMcaptain2 жыл бұрын
You only gain torque in each respective gear… but since the trans has more gears you don’t have more torque outside of 1st gear since it will just run a lower transmission ratio. It will only help acceleration on the freeway by closing up the rpm gap between shifts which will have minimal impact on average power output.

What is the stock gear ratio for Jeep Gladiator Altitude? Just bought it and the dealership added 2.5” lift with 35” tires. I doubt they re-geared it.

Looking to buy a 2021 diesel gladiator Willys with 37” tires. The did everything but gears. The stock gears are 3:73. The wife will be using the gladiator to tow our 2 Harley’s from Florida to Tennessee. Total weight is 2500lbs. What would be a good gear for this combo?

Do you need 2 new carriers for the m186 and m200 on a JL Sport (regearing to 4.56)? None of the gear packages come with carriers, and literally nobody ever talks about carriers, so I'd assume no? but, if yes - "loaded" or "empty"?
@andrewblewski7926 Жыл бұрын
Would you recommend sticking with the 4.10 on 33s with the manual, or upgrading to the 4.88? And if upgrading to 35s, 4.56 isn't an option with the manual. Would you do 4.10 or 4.88? On the JL*

Would you say $2600-$2800 including labor + parts + lockers for a 2006 LJ regearing is fair now a days? I know its a year later :P

What would you recommend for 35s on a Willys 4xe? I was hoping the 470ft/lbs of torque MIGHT not require regearing but thought I'd ask the pro :)

Is it bad for the auto transmission and 4x4 system to go from 235/50/19 (oem size) to 235/55/19? I want a more comfortable tyre but i'm afraid that the bigger overall size would affect the automatic transmission and 4x4 system over time

What do yall thank would be the better of the gear choice. My wife's got a stock 2door jl 3.6l manual 6speed with 245/75/17 and the axle ratio is a 3.45 6th gear is really pointless (no balls to pull it self) I was thanking about putting some bigger wheels an tires for her birthday like maybe a 285 or 33". Majority of the time it's goin to be hwy drivin.

I have a gladiator with max tow option. 3.6L, automatic with 4.10 gears. I’m going to 37” tires. Seems like 4.88 gears will get me back to factory performance but I see on your website you recommend 5.13. Why? Will it run high rpms on the highway?

Should I do lockers or lsd while I’m in there? I’m lost between what to do. E locker in front with lsd in rear? E locker front and rear? E locker in just rear? Just lsd in rear? Help as I’m not a heavy rock crawler or anything else above a 7/10 off-road. I have a jt sport non max tow. Thanks.

I have a 2021 JLU 3.6 eTorque 8 speed. Dana 30 front Dana 35 rear. I have 35’s and thinking about going to 37’s. Mostly highway driving. Occasionally off road. I tow a 2000lbs boat and possibly a travel trailer in the future. Would you do 4:56 or 4:88??

What do you think about a jl rubicon unlimited with 37s and 4:56? Is my daily driver I’m concerned about mpg and rpms… I do long distance travel to get to the trail (Mexico to south California Anza-borrego) when loaded with rtt, fridge, gear and everything… 35s and 4:10s. I felt it was OK… now with 37s, I just hope it feels at least the same as it used to with the 4:56. I’m thinking about 4:56 based on the math exercise 36.5 (new tire) divided by 32.8 (stock tire) x 4.10 (stock gear) gives me exactly 4:56. Please, I’ll love to hear your opinion
@Exodus4x42 жыл бұрын
You’d be ok but honestly think 4.88’s would be much better

If you are going to put a set of axles on a gladiator would the 60 40 from dynatrac be a good choice with 5.13 gears or just bite the bullet and get the 60s want to beaf them up and make them wider at the most cost effective plus it keeps the wheels I have what do you think
@Exodus4x43 жыл бұрын
Bite the bullet and go at least 60/60

Extreme terrain has a chart that breaks down gear ratio vs tire size. I'd take a look at that before moving forward.

What do you mean that the JL and JT don't have a "live" front axle? I thought all solid axles were "live" axles? Both front and rear should be spinning with the tires. Just not under power until you put it in 4H. Please explain because my shop didn't have me run any 4H break-ins and said i didn't need to because they are all spinning.
@Exodus4x43 жыл бұрын
The JL/JT have the FAD and therefore the front ring and pinion will only turn when 4WD is engaged at the shifter.

Question I’m new to the gladiator group. I have a 2020 Mojave came with 37’ tires and has 4.11 gears, with the tow package, so do I really need to re gear my Jeep? I don’t tow anything and it runs good on the highway and I’m in 8th gear on my transmission….

in-and-out in one day for a re-gear? yah i wouldn't trust any shop with that kind of churn-and-burn turnaround time on a re-gear.
