When I started the interview and saw the video-length, I wondered when I'd click away, having my attention span exhausted and longing for the next topic/video -but here I am watching the patreon credits at the end - surprised the 1 1/2 hours have passed. Even tough I don't regard the Fermi Paradox as a valid paradox as he seems to, he is so very balanced and thoughtful in his approach to the subject, that I would never pass up an opportunity to hear his take on that subject. Beyond that, whatever subject he (or one of his people) gives his attention to on his COOL WORLDS channel is similarly soberly explored and explained. I really look forward to each posting.

The part about science communicating philosophy and the workings of academia was very interesting as was the whole discussion. Thank you both for sharing your love of science and your gifts in imparting knowledge to the world! I think too many people look only at the surface of science and research, expecting all the answers to be revealed in a monolithic unchanging chunk that is fully refined, not understanding that new data can present better, more complete understanding at any time. People are creatures of habit; it is easier to believe something and hold on to that than to flex their minds and incorporate new ideas. Thanks for broadening our minds and making us think. You're both amazing.

There are a lot of egos out there in the field of space research just like in the historicity of Jesus debate so it doesn't surprise me that other researchers would attempt to debunk Kipping's work without discussing their conclusions with him. This type of thing seems to be a recent phenomenon in the science world but is not surprising considering the direction society has been going.

*Fraser,* just to put a spin on your empty wilderness analogy at 50:52 when humans first cross the Bering Land Bridge into N.A. and it appears to be unclaimed & unpeopled, that *if* a people/civilization were already in N.A. the signs would necessarily be obvious to these newcomers... To this I would point out that until very recently it was undisputable *fact* that humans had only been in N.A. for 12,000 years and *no* evidence exists for prior habitation... Within the last decade that theory has been falsified. We now know Humans have populated the Americas 50,000+ years. ..How was this discovered? Simple. We looked. Someone like Dr Kipping looked where he was told not to - he dug below 12,000 years. So as that pertains to the Galaxy being an empty wilderness when we *should* se Dyson spheres, I think we would be remiss to not apply that lesson in our SETI efforts.. Let's do a bit more digging before we call it. 👍 Great Episode!

It was interesting to hear the discussion of how to get your research you are interested in when the funding is limited or how to follow your passion.... I am past the point of career prospects but it should be good advice to not "burn ones bridges"... to maintain a professional network.... never to leave a bad taste in your associates mouth (mind)... Im not saying this well. But one cannot ever discount your potential of someone in your network leading to YOUR next step... your next job.... (this actually happened to me when I wasnt looking)... keep an open mind.
