Exorcism of the White House by The Fugs!

The band The Fugs, performs an exorcism in D.C. to get rid of the demons plaguing our government and causing death and destruction around the world.
The Fugs were originally formed in New York City in late 1964 by the poets Ed Sanders and Tuli Kupferberg, with Ken Weaver on drums.The band was known for its comedic, even lewd, nature but also earned fame through their persistent anti-Vietnam War sentiment during the 1960s. The current musical ensemble of the Fugs has been together for over 32 years, since 1985. It consists of Ed Sanders, leader and founder; Steve Taylor, vocals and guitars; Coby Batty, vocals and percussion; and Scott Petito, bass, keyboards, and other stringed instruments.

Hahahaha. I was at the first exorcism of the Pentagon in 1967 (the "armies of the night," which this commemorates) and "helped" the Fugs lift it several feet in the air. Later, we all got tear gassed and many were arrested. Good times. Good times.

I grew up listening to The Fugs, from the age of 7 on. All I can say is that maybe if they'd been a little bit louder, a little bit harder, more people would have heard them. Keep it up guys! It's worth it.

While I was hoping for a more enthusiastic , updated rendition of the 1967 classic , I also realise that there are limitations ( i.e. , noise levels , and all of the whatnot ) . Good LP. With horns and strings and choral singing and spaced out spoken interludes and comedy and 'big bad river' tragedy. Bit too bawdy and "no more slurpings at the narthex" for some, maybe. Bwtf. Orginal gatefold LP has Ed Sanders sleeve notes that are still relevant and amusing 50+ years on.

Without a doubt today more than ever we need people like Sanders to take a stand and not be spineless. If more artists back then as well as in the recent past would have been at least political enough that their art couldn't be co-opted by the other side we wouldn't be in the mess we are in today. To try and think of Ed Sanders as some sort of visionary is just plain silly. Unique, yes, but while the Fugs tried to present themselves as some sort of drugged out, inspired, protest band, they diluted that with funny material obsessed with wondrous drugs and forbidden sex acts. They were a lot of giggly fun for us teens in the 60's and 70's with songs like CCD, Slum Goddess and Saran Wrap, but NO ONE (sane) took them seriously. Looking at the miniscule "crowd" attending this performance, obviously, no one takes them any more seriously now.

The first album is good, the 2nd album is amazing, after they signed to Reprise it just became silly and phoned in....but songs like I Want To Know, Coming Down, Morning Morning have stood the test of time, at least to me.
