I like Exorcist II. I pretty much agree with your assessment of it. It's way more weird than bad. I always find it strange that people ridicule the synchronizer machine subplot. The late 70s was all about pop psychology and experimenting with latent psychic powers (Uri Gellar was all over the place around then), so I don't find this plot device particularly out of place or far fetched. Great review. I may have to pick this up sometime. Looks like a nice release.

Thanks for watching! It's a nice release and I'm very happy I purchased it. It's such a fascinating film.

They were going for more metaphysical and scientific of a sequel, not horror as they knew they could never live up to the original's suspense. The original was shot as an almost low budget affair compared to the grande old-Hollywood big budget sequel. And from what I heard, nobody could pay attention enough to even understand the film as quotes from the original were shouted at the screen constantly. It may be a little jumbled because of rewrites but the idea is still there..similar to Halloween II, Exorcist II wants to say "maybe this wasn't a random attack" and to further Exorcist II, "Maybe goodness draws evil upon itsself" like moths to a light

It's definitely an interesting film! I'm fascinated by it, and would love to see a feature length documentary on it.

I love this movie. In terms of understanding the plot, I never had a problem with the metaphysics. Many cultures believe in the power of dreams and how two people can share the same dream or dream state. This movie was chuck full of ideas. It seems Boorman's original story got lost in translation. I would like to say in defense of those who hate this movie. Some of the directors efforts suffer the same fate. Terrible dialogue and far reaching ideas. Zardoz and Excalibur are prime examples and I love Excalibur. The rare sequel that goes a different route and now looks better than ever.

I haven't seen this movie, only the first 'The Exorcist', but I find the 'synchronizer machine' subplot to be intriguing. Though I have never met her, I have a synchronistic relationship with Linda Blair. We both grew up in Westport, Ct., where I first tried to use an Ouija board. My older brother dated her sister, Debbie, and my older sister dated her brother Jimmy. My father, my brother, and my sisters, and I, once lived in a house where the previous occupant was Ellen Burstyn (Rockland County, NY). When I lived in Westport, Ct. as a kid, I had a psychiatrist who had a son named Roland (Linda Blair was somewhere else in town at the time). 'The Exorcist' is actually on a true story about a demonically-possessed young man named Roland. His father, my doctor, would eventually, years later, go to the Vatican for an audience with Pope John Paul II.

Wow! You have some really fascinating connections to Linda Blair. Thank you for sharing! And thank you so much for watching and commenting! Exorcist 2 is a really crazy and weird film. But I do think it's worth checking out at least once. Let me know your thoughts, if you ever end up seeing it. I'm curious to know!

Nice story, except the boy who "The Exorcist" was based on was not called Roland. He was called Ronald. And it would have been a true miracle for his father to have met Pope John Paul II, since his father died in 1976, two years before Karol Wojtyla was made pope. Oh, and Edwin Hunkeler wasn't a psychiatrist.
@romanticandperky10 ай бұрын
@@andysmith1996 You misunderstood, Andy: It was my psychiatrist who went to the Vatican for an audience with Pope John Paul II (and he was with actor Richard Dreyfuss at the time); if I remember correctly, it was sometime during the 80s. His name was Dr. Leon Tec, and his son's name is Roland; and we lived in the same town as Linda Blair (Westport, Ct.). If I remember correctly, in the actual case upon which 'The Exorcist' is based, the patient was often referred to as 'Roland' to protect his identity. By the time, 'The Exorcist: II' was released (1977), I was living with family members in the same neighborhood as Ellen Burstyn (Rockland County, NY). My late older brother, when we were kids, would go over to Linda Blair's house and give guitar lessons to her older sister. I was with my brother as a kid, in Westport, when I first heard this: The Beatles' version of 'Devil In Her Heart'. Years later, he was invited over to Keith Richards' house (along with his guitar). You know, Andy; the guy who co-wrote the rock anthem-'Sympathy For The Devil'. I don't know if it's a nice story, Andy. Btw, do you know what synchronicity is?

I've only seen Exorcist 2 a couple of times on TV, and every time I do see it, I keep asking myself, "What am I watching?" and "What's with all the damn locusts?!" There's so much locust action they should have called it Exorcist 2: Locust Boogaloo. On a more serious note, Linda Blair was a guest at our state's con not too long ago, and during her Q&A, she mentioned that there was some stuff shot with her and Anthony Hopkins that didn't make it into the film. Does she bring this up in the interview?
@RetroAnalogEntertainment6 жыл бұрын
Oh wow nope, she never mentioned Anthony Hopkins! I'm really curious to know more, so I will have to check out those commentary tracks more closely. What a crazy movie this was!
@GamerGuysReviews6 жыл бұрын
I'll have to double check that statement. I recorded her Q&A panel and I believed she did in fact say there was a scene with her and Anthony Hopkins that didn't make it into the final film. I would have asked her when she was at her booth, but I was a bit preoccupied with meeting Michael Biehn, who was also there.
@RetroAnalogEntertainment6 жыл бұрын
@@GamerGuysReviews Oh ok no worries. Wouldn't surprise me if Anthony Hopkins was in the film at some point, the movie had quite a cast! And that would be awesome meeting Michael Biehn! He did a horror convention near me a few years ago, but I was unable to attend. One of these days! What was he like?

He was a pretty chill dude. I asked him about his time on the video game Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, how he got involved on the project, and why there hasn't been a real sequel to that game, aside from a spin-off. Afterwards, I got an autograph and pic with him. It may have cost 80 bucks, but it was 80 bucks well spent.

I didn't throw popcorn at the TV in 2005, but I was upset. If Linda Blair had fallen from that skyscraper, nothing would have caught her. The Ennio Morricone music was good. Quentin Tarantino recycled it in his movies. There's a tender scene in the film where Regan heals a girl with autism.

one more thing: Exorcist II had to be good, pretty damn good. I bought an original script) and I was shocked how good project was lost by one director and his associate.

Already own all the Exorcist movies from the Blu Ray collection that came out a few years ago. This is not worth the double dip, I would however double dip on a Collector's Edition of the first movie.
@RetroAnalogEntertainment6 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, definitely not worth a double dip if you already own it. Maybe not even worth it if all you have is a VHS copy ! 😁
@austinwillcut49196 жыл бұрын
Nah, I disagree. It's totally worth the double dip considering the first Warner blu ray was complete ass picture and sound wise, you're getting a brand new transfer with SF and it looks fantastic. Also, you're getting the 102 min. recut version of the movie which is pretty rare to see....I think it's worth it just for that! The commentaries are good as well, I do agree there should've been an hour long documentary but very few involved in the film wants to talk about it so that's why we didn't get that.

Exorcist III is by no way a true or worthy sequel imo. True, "The Heretic" could've been MUCH better, but it at least still has the main connection to the original, which is Regan. Always enjoyed this one more than "Legion". Part 3 was just plain boring.

Thank you so much for watching and commenting! I grew up watching part 3 (along with part 1) so it could be more nostalgia on my part. But I've always loved it. I want to love part 2...but it's hard for me. I do have to say, it certainly isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I'm curious to watch it again, especially with the new movie coming out.
