I am a guitar builder (and now teacher) from Ireland, but currently based in the South of England working with Crimson Guitars. Hi, I'd had someone cut out the shape of a purpleheart guitar stand a while back, intending to do the finishing work myself. It's somewhat similar to the stands worked on here, with the addition of some decorative cut-throughs at the top. Not a woodworker myself, I'm wondering what would be good tools to clean up the cut-throughs so it looks finished. I tried getting into those spots with a hand rasp, but you know how tough purpleheart is. All those outer edges are still unfinished as well, so it's still a ways until this project is a wrap. Thanks!

Beautiful job. I honestly wouldn’t trust the biscuit joint. Dowels or dominos would be more appropriate to stand the test of time.Again a beautiful piece.

I understand the hesitation, but so far I haven't had a single problem with the joint. I always make sure the bare joint is good though, even if it is an endgrain joint. I have had 1 or 2 break around that area in the years I've been making these stands, but the break has always been in the wood beside the joint amazingly. And they have only broken after something heavy falls on them or something like that.

Heat brings out the purple much more quickly and efficiently than Time does. I usually hit my Purple Heart with a blowtorch before I start sanding

I did hear that, alright. I gave it a go myself on some scrap, but I wasn't as happy with the result. I felt the torch made the colour a little blotchy and inconsistent. After about 3 days, the stands are a beautiful mulberry purple and I'm very happy!

I got a purpleheart fretboard/rosewood neck from warmoth, with golden copper alloy frets. Looks absolutely beautiful.

No problem, I hope you figure something out! It may take some trial and error though. Getting the shape just right to hold things at the right angle took a few goes.

They look increadible! Could the real leather be replaced by any other material? I would like to make one for a vegan friend and real leather would not be ideal for him

Thank you! I've been wanting to look into a vegan alternative actually, but it's tougher than you'd think without looking at plastics, which I'd like to avoid.
