Don't know why anyone would xray an animal to determine sex if there are external traits (unless the external traits are ambiguous) but it's not impossible for animals to have or lack traits and/or organs of both sexes, or to just _appear_ that way. When given conflicting information I tend to trust the source that I know has the most relevant experience which is not always the one with the most formal or expensive education! I'd never trust a doctor to stick a needle in me unless they're a dentist or a ER doc because I know nurses are the ones who (are supposed to) know how to do it correctly. Any professional worth their salt will tell you if they're not trained for or knowledgeable about something!

Ever since a vet incorrectly prescribed liquid calcium drops to my beardie and she had a seizure immediately after giving her the drops... I went back and forth with the vet about it and they literally told me to come back and do the same tests again that i already paid for because they "don't test for everything, every time" So I asked if id have to pay again and the answer was "of course, we can't run tests for free" I'm WTF?! I already paid! She died from her seizures later that day. Vets just care about money PS, i brought her into the vet for some lethargy coming out of brumation... PPS, When her tests came back and her calcium levels weren't even low

That sucks. I would be devastated if my dragons died.

The sheer controversy!!! 😂 There were people in our local group who actually thought i was a veterinarian! That was probably the best compliment i ever got regarding my animals lol... But no I'm just a major dork that looks up EVERYTHING and researches stuff until i have enough of an understanding that im willing to treat a lot of issues at home.. unless of course it's something that requires a vet. Thankfully i haven't had too many of those issues.

I live on a farm, and we vet our animals ourselves.

Good Morning Ronny, Many breeders, especially very experienced ones like yourself, are very knowledgeable. Vets are very good for emergencies, but we need to learn some first aid for ourselves. I had my Bull Snake, from you, out a little while ago. Captain Bull is putting on some size now. He is very good natured. When the weather is warmer and you have some females, I would buy another Bull Snake from you.

Much appreciated. I had a very good friend that knew more about reptiles than anybody I ever have known. Dr. Bernard Bachtel from my home town of Valdosta. I was very fortunate to learn a great deal from him. There are some very good vets, and herpetologists out there, but good ones are rare in my experience.

As many "exotic" pets as I have owned over the years, I have yet to have to take one to a vet , exotic or otherwise. Most ailments are common and through your own research or the advice of a breeder can be handed at home. Husbandry and dehydration is the cause of most ailments. Of course if it is something major then a vet should be used.. but make sure you locate a knowledgeable and reputable exotic vet before you need one. I would have to travel almost 2 hours to find one I trust.
