A directional coupler is a device used to measure the incident and reflected waves separately. It consists of two transmission lines, the main arm and the auxiliary arm electromagnetically coupled to each other.
The power entering in the main arm gets divided between port 2 and 3 and no power comes out in port 4.Power entering port 2 is divided between port 1 and 4 and no power comes out in port3.
