Your explanation of bending to the C and F# when using the BB box over the D7 was helpful! I learned recently on some jazz blues where those 3rd and 7th notes are kind of "defining" notes for a Dominant 7 chord and you showed that in practice. Thank you.

Thanks Jamie, this was really, really helpful. It's easy to get stuck in the first two positions of the minor pentatonic, but I could never really figure out how to work box 3 into the mix. This gives me an easy way to visualize that third position and hit the 'money' notes so to speak. Thanks again!
@johnnewman84128 жыл бұрын
Except, as I've just realized, it isn't taken from Box 3 minor pentatonic at all. It's D Major scale I'm guessing? In which case it really only works over the 4 chord. Still, it's a very useful thing to know.
These are valuable tips to expand on. Those chords really capture the feel, too. Thanks

Hi Neal thanks! I've had a few set ups since this video, but I like the action low but with enough relief to still get clear bends. Sorry I can't be more specific!

Jamie, it looks like the link to the notation/tab may have been hacked, at least when trying to access it from the U.S. I get a "suspicious site" warning when I try to go to it. The last position, BB box, does not seem to follow the AM pentatonic scale shapes that I am familiar with, can you explain? Thanks!
@collingwoodfan7210 жыл бұрын
from what i can see its a mix between too a minor pentatonics, the one on the 12th fret with the root on the a string, and the extended one starting at 5 th fret on the e string
@mauicarlandrews10 жыл бұрын
So you mean it is from two different Keys
@collingwoodfan7210 жыл бұрын
no not two different keys just two different scale shapes
@mauicarlandrews10 жыл бұрын
collingwoodfan72 I just did not recognize that shape as being one of the 5 minor pentatonic shapes in the key that was being played?
@tima95569 жыл бұрын
Carl Andrews The BB box is a major pentatonic shape, the first two patterns he shows are minor pentatonic over the A7 and then he switches to the BB box which is a major pentatonic over the A7. The third pattern ie the BB box uses notes from the major pentatonic apart from the added 4th which is a 'D'. that's the 10th fret E string. This would be the root note of the 4th chord which is why it probably sounds good over the IV.
