I am on my second expandable hose which also broke. Luckily I have not tossed either. I got an insert and 2 clamp kit from home depot.... may not work as well as yours. Something that important to remember with these flimsy hoses is than you can NOT leave water pressure on for very long with the sprayer turned off (or what ever you have on the end .) It cannot handle the pressure like regular hoses. Side note: a neighbor had her nozzle set to trickle to slowly water a tree while she was out. Trouble is the water was turned on full and eventually the hose said "I'm outta here" and blew up. I found water seeping out her back fence and went to tell her there was a problem. (Californians are very touchy about wasting water 🤣 ) She was very grateful to be told.

Watching this video helped me tremendously. I'm "mechanically challenged," and with no instructions with the repair kit, I was lost. It did take about 30 minutes. It was also easier with two people, but your instructions worked, and the hose is no longer leaking... Thank you!

I was able to fix my Pocket Hose thanks to your instruction and the repair kit that is shown. It requires some effort, clamps needed, don’t twist the tubing, vise grips help, and finally a male hex fitting to stabilize the female coupling.

Thank you Rick! Very helpful video especially considering the parts come with NO instructions. I would suggest you go into a bit more detail about attaching the female end. Also, a 1/2" hex wrench can be inserted and used to tighten the collar part. What I did for my repair was to install both male and female connectors at the leak point (only cutting out a 1" piece of the hose) to preserve the full length. Worked beautifully! Just like a simple coupler. And no leaks! Thanks Again!

I like the video, you do a great job of explaining everything. I'm not sure, however, how feasible it is to order a ten dolllar replacement for a forty dollar hose that will never function that well. My flexible hose bursted within the first thirty days. Followed the repair, there is nothing wrong with the video, but it is really difficult on the repair to not have a leak somewhere, usually near the nozzle. I've done this a couple of times, but I just think it is not worth the trouble to even purchase flexible hoses.

I get that. I like that they are easy to store but I wish they were more durable. It may not be worth it to repair the hose for some people. Since the kit comes with multiple pieces, I was able to repair a family member's hose. If a repaired ever becomes trash, I'll remove the repair pieces to use on another hose in the future.

I agree anybody that dealt with a flex hose and seeing how easy it is for them to get twisted and cut on bushes. Will probably never buy on again. Lol. But it a grate repair demonstration for buying Time.

I LOVE my hose. It's a 1/2" FlexH20 (super easy to roll up after use) but it has sprung a leak at the connection. I'm going to try this fix. Thanks for posting!

Wow. Wish I had seen your video before I threw out my leaking hose and got a new hose. Only suggestion I would have is to use plumbers tape on the threads when you tighten to form tighter seal.

Well I wished I hadn't thrown away the ends to another hose I had. However on this one I love what you did and I was doing the same thing only I need the other end repaired that hooks to the faucet. I can't get it to stay on and it doesn't have the little notches to line up it does have the cutout prices but nothing can match them to like the top and when I screw it together and put it on and turn on the faucet it just comes right back off.

Nice job Rick. My flexi hose developed holes close to where it attaches to the faucet. The hose is expensive, and I used it for close to two years with satisfaction. Real interesting seeing the anatomy of the hose and the detailed instruction on stretching the hose out before cutting it. I will order a kit and give this a try, I should be able to make it work. Thank you for posting Rick, I have one suggestion and one comment....Suggestion, I applied some electrical tape to the green hose cover to the very bottom of the threaded section. This helped me a lot in trying to move the plastic part up the hose to the threads. Comment, I had to sacrifice one of my previously purchased box of 8 because I was not completely clear how to end up with a male end....but I figured it out and salvaged part of the original yellow connector with the local on/off "handle"....as for the durability; these green hoses will explode if the water is on full and you close the nozzle; but if you keep a bit of water still running while turning off the spigot they will not self-destruct. I migrated to the black flexible hose for another spigot. Again, thank you for clear photos/video and explanations.

Hi Rick.. I've repaired 2 up to now (with great difficulty!) Both of my leaks were very close to the adapter which connects to the tap. When stripping the old ones, both tube and the green fabric were clamped, that's where my difficulty lay. but I noticed in your video you didn't do this. You just clamped the tube with the plastic beveled clamp then screwed up the last fitting with the fabric left loose. This made it far easier then clamping both fabric and tube onto the nozzle. Is this OK to do this?

Great video. I want to try and save my hose. Understand everything except can’t figure out how much tubing I should cut off. The tubing is what broke 2” down from the faucet end, since there is no way of retrieving the tube, I had to cut off a lot of the material. I put the piece of material over a rod and compressed it, measures 3 feet. In it’s relaxed state it measures approx 8 feet Pulled out tight approx 16 feet How much tubing should I cut off before I repair it. Thanks Linda

Being that the inner diameter of the solid repair piece is NOT expandable and it is much SMALLER than inner diameter of a fully expanded hose inner diameter, it would appear to me you would lose a substantial amount of water flow/pressure...correct? Regardless, a lower flow hose vs no hose is a winner! Great kit!

The restriction in the repair piece and the original hose connectors is about the same. These hoses aren't great for high flow. The biggest benefit is that they don't take up much room and are lightweight.

I bought the kit and successfully made one repair after the actual nozzle handle split. The hose part was fine. This was the male side of the hose and I did the repair as shown on the video. It was very hard to get the white plastic sleeve over the hose and then it was equally hard to get the last cover to catch so you could screw it tightly. And the very last few turns I had to ask my husband to do so it was tight all the way. Fast forward to today, I had to make a female side repair, the inner tubing came off of the faucet side spraying water everywhere leaking through the hose cover. I again followed the directions on the video. This time I observed that the tubing was sticky on the inside and sticking together making it hard to keep open so I could slide over the male end. The white sleeve slide on easier this time. Still have a very hard time getting the outer sleeve to screw tightly over the fabric, kept having to trim it back as my hose cover frays easily and eventually could not get it to move any tighter. Tried it on the faucet anyway and FAILURE!! Water leaking everywhere at the connection. I'm assuming two possibilities, 1) the sticky tubing is deteriorated and not holding well enough, 2) the outer sleeve cover MUST be snug against the outer ring. I will try again, this time cutting open the hose cover to find where the tubing is not sticky and try the repair again, hoping that the outer sleeve will be able to screw tightly against the connection for the faucet this time. If anyone has any helpful suggestions, please let me know.

My wife got the hose but I had been using it quite a bit recently. It is nice in that it is lightweight and easy to store. The downside is that it isn't as durable. Thankfully I was able to fix it. I may someday get a Flexeel host. I have one of their air hoses and it is lightweight and durable.

My hose the rubber part is like halfway down the sheath. I cut the sheath to access the hose rubber. Fixed the end. Now where I cut the sheath it bubbles. Any fix for that? Or do I need to cut the hose there and use the kit to make an extension.?

One suggestion I have with the hoses, don't buy the ones with plastic fittings at the ends (like this one in the video) . Those are garbage. Buy the ones with metal connectors and a valve at the far end.

I don't know if there is a specific repair kit for that but with the kit I used in the video, you can cut the hose at the leak and put ends on each side of the cut. You would then end up with two shorter hoses you can connect together.

I guess these hoses can't maintain pressure when not being used, gotta turn the water off and release the pressure to keep it from exploding on you. It's even worse if left in the sun.

Yes. You can repair at any point in the hose. Often you would repair both sides of the break to make two hoses from the one broken one.

Not sure on that. Could it have stretched? If you go back further in the hose is it smaller? If so, you may need to cut the hose shorter.

Too bad it doesn't fix a "Zero-G"brand light weight hose because the tubing ID and wall thickness are too large. Also the Zero-G Fabric covering is too bulky so that you can't slide the plastic end piece over it. Good design of the repair kit...but size compatibility with the hose is critical.

Why Pocket Hoses Fail Description: 2 Plastic connectors on each end of the hose. One expandable tubing is clipped onto those connectors. One non-expandable but larger tube of tough fiber weaved outer jacket. water pressure causes the inner tubing to expand like a balloon. the outer cover prevents the inner tubing from over expanding and popping. The inner tube expands by water pressure. Then contracts when the pressure drops. The greatest pressure happens right near the connectors. Each time this happens, that inner tubing begins to form cracks. When enough cracks near to each other forms, water pressure forces it way through that weakened area, ending up as a leak, most frequently right near the connectors. The clip that holds the rubber tubing keeps it from expanding. Meanwhile, the non-clip hose expands. The difference between them generates the biggest cracks. Then at that area, it splits open. The more you use the hose, the sooner it splits open near the connectors. once you understand the problem with these types of hoses, you must decide whether or not they are worth your while. If you do a ton of use, then vinyl is the way to go. If occasional, then pockethose like products are the better choice.

I think the biggest advantage of these hoses is ease of storage. Aside from that, they don't have much or anything that is an advantage over conventional hoses. We use one because it can easily fit in our deck box when not in use.

@@Rickmakes yes, same here; i have 3 hoses and they all fit in one large pail. However, all three hoses are more than a foot shorter from all the repairs. Now, tire foam is used to slow down tire degradation and cracking, so I wish something like that is created one day to keep those in-side tubes elastic for years. Don't say it, I know, very unlikely to happen. but you never know.
