at around the 8 minute mark for the question, don't you do what's in the bracket first??
@carultch5 ай бұрын
In general, yes, you do take care of evaluating the contents of the brackets first. However, here, he is using the distributive property, that allows you to multiply the coefficient, individually by both terms in the brackets, and then add up the two results. This is a special property that addition and multiplication have together, or operations you can ultimately reduce to addition and multiplication, but doesn't apply in general when other operations are involved. For instance, had the expression been: 3/(4 + 2*B) You couldn't reduce it to 3/4 + 3/(2*B), because the distributive property doesn't apply to the contents of a grouped expression in the denominator of division.

I wanna know 6÷2(2+1)
@Jack_Frost5 жыл бұрын
6÷2(2+1) = 6÷2(3) = 6÷6 = 1
@0pascario05 жыл бұрын
@@Jack_Frost Well, there is a difference between 6/(2(2+1)) and (6/2)(2+1). When you dont have the brackets: Divide first, then multiply, then subtact and add last. So its 6/2 * (2+1) = 3*(3) = 9.
@Jack_Frost5 жыл бұрын
@@0pascario0 when I read 6/2(2+1) I see 6/(2(2+1) because the brackets are only related to the 2 and not to 6/2, otherwise there would be brackets around the entire fraction.
@Jack_Frost5 жыл бұрын
@@0pascario0 maybe it's because I study maths in France, and I noticed a few differences of writing maths. For example "5 1/2" is read "five and a half" in Australia (and maybe in other countries too, idk) but in France we would read this as " five times a half", which confused me when I first saw it on Mr. Woo's videos
@0pascario05 жыл бұрын
@@Jack_Frost Its 6 / 2 * (2 + 1) or 6 / 2 * 3. You said you "see" some brackets there, but they are not quite right. If its easier for you just write it like this: 6 * (1/2) * (2 + 1). Instead of dividing you multiply with the reciprocal.
