If you have the time to research and check market prices of commodities why not try to lease land and plant crop like corn or sugar cane or maybe you can go poultry raising chicken for meat and egg production or maybe go for pig or goat then maybe in the future go for cows. Now you can provide for yourself with food and can earn money but of course there are some risk and you really need to work for on it at the beginning like any other business venture.

Anthony querubin....That sector is already saturated by Politicians and wealthy people who's currently doing business in the Philippines. Unless you can introduce a livestock that you can "raise" in the Philippines that has not been introduced to the Philippines.....and becomes an instant hit "taste wise" with the local people and the "expats' living in the Philippines....then you might be able to do great....but raising pigs, chickens, and having fish ponds....are already develop and are already being "done".......their might be "some room" for the "cow business" if you can feed them the right kind of "grain" that the meat taste more like Brazilian, U.S., Australian or Canadian or Japanese but cost less....then you might have a chance. Most cows are raised in Masbate region and the local cows taste different compare to the "other cows" I mentioned above......I say.....you try to improve on the "Carabao Meat" if you can get the Carabao Meat (water buffalo) to taste like "Wagu Beef" then fuck yeahhhhhh.....you got yourself a "market" in the Philippines......Carabao grow in abundance and they are local animals...so you just need to "modify" the grain they eat and put them into "watery play pins" to make them taste like "WAGU WATER BUFFALO BEEF".....I HEARD THAT THE MEATS ARE MORE LEAN SO THAT MEANS THEY ARE BETTER FOR THE "HEART" AND HUMAN COMSUMPTION....SO THAT IS YOUR 2 POSITIVE POINTS ALREADY.......HE HE HE....WHERE IS MY BEEF????

Another suggestion, open an online internet blog that actually provide travel services like : picking up/to the airport, hotel arrangements, water taxi arrangement and island hopping packages or maybe the entire travel package. Or buy a boat and rent it to the responsible trourists.

This is my sincere advice to you. Since you are now residing in a farming community, why not start a business related to the farming industry such as being the distributor of products. Farmers can contact you online and sell their farm produce and you distribute the produce all over the Philippines. Do something to modernize the farming industry and assist farmers in increasing their incomes and create jobs. Wishing you success, happiness, fulfilment.

My suggestion is for you to buy a real estate property and earn from the rental income. Your wife can buy the property if land is included but you can buy the property yourself if you are buying a condo. You can also work in a call center and there are tons of them. Start from a low rank in the company and move up from there.

There's some unique legalities for foreigners moving there and opening up a business to include requiring to have filipino partners who own majority share (e.g more than 50%). You can't directly buy land/property (except condos but that is a separate issue). Myself, lend money and also thinking about a multi-cab (similar to jeepney) business.

People commenting about how bad his decision was to leave his life and career in a first world country to move to the Philippines with his loved ones should realise that there is more to life than having lots of money and good-paying job. If you’ve watched his previous videos, he is content and happy with his simple life compared to what he used to have back in Dubai and US because at the end of the day, he gets to spend quality time with the people and things that matter most to him. Life in the Philippines is not at all easy and luxurious for most of us, but some people find more contentment on things that money can’t buy- such as relationships and time. And we should strive to be more like those people, because when we’re on our death beds, we definitely cannot bring money, career and all other material things with us, but good memories and time spent with family and people that matter to us will be our greatest treasure and legacy up until we leave this world.

What do you not understand about what he has said? He told you he has rental investments that give him 50/60% of his income and he also has saved enough savings for 1 year of livings expenses and then after that he still has some savings. A couple of critiques and suggestions. I am finishing my degree in Creative Writing with a minor in cinematography after working as a paramedic for 18 years. I had a bad accident that left me disabled so I look for jobs I can do online. First I am not sure without looking but I imagine if you turn your auto white balance off on your camera it will stop dimming. You could use something like Abby's shirt to white balance it and its a very easy process. Now on the job side there is also a website called spike write where you get paid for transcriptionist work if you can type fairly fast. There are also tons of sites for freelance video editing that can be specific to what software you use or just general editing. I also have some ideas about training some people in the Philippines to edit specific to a website I am building. The labor there is pretty cheap by our standards and still can be very substantial by the Philippine standards. I am on a five year plan for now because it will be that long before my daughter turns 18. I think you have a good idea being a year out in your finances. If all else fails you could go back to the states for a season and put some money in the bank but it's a good idea to have some cushion to fall back on.

If your planning to live in the Philippines long term you have to have a solid monthly income. You have to think about your healthcare. Also if you quit work in the US before at least 55 your social security will amount to almost nothing.

Another thing about a Sari Sari Store. The way that usually goes is Friends and Relatives expect to buy on credit, but the problem is quite often they dont pay their Tab. pretty soon all of your capitol is out on credit to people that will never pay back. Most Filipinos don't understand business, I have seen many times that they treat the money that they bring in each day as profit and it gets spent, Pretty soon they have no money to re-stock product. A Sari Sari Store has very little profit and most of the ones that I have seen fail was because of extending credit.

We all want that dream and 90% will go for it but only 10% will succeed in the Philippines, I am being factual, I was teaching in China and Korea and yes I am a qualified and certificated, I have been coming to the Philippines for 30 years on and off, let's be clear it is a hard country to make money even the majority of the indigenous people fail so being a foreigner puts you at a disadvantage despite what you may have be told...most Pinays get a sari sari store and scrape a very small living as the family get involved and to many people trying to milk a small cow, now a Filipinos living standards and survival is vastly different from western peoples, to be honest you really want 80% of your survival money coming in from abroad your home country maybe, oh one more thing the foreigner cannot own land or freehold property solely in there name it will be 60/40% and yes the 40% is yours unless it is a lease hold like condo/apartment, there are other very messy and complicated ways around this but never ever sign a 60/40% arrangements even if she states mahal please I love you trust me your my world .NO-NO-NO slap your face put your head in cold water wake-up..they may show tears and say...baka hindi mo agad magkaroon akin ngayon get your Pinay to translate, but if you find a HONEST pinay well done..warning go behind there backs with other Pinays there RUIN, you so for all you Babearos be warned lol..ingat ka palagi...my FB ray arnold

Dee Boy, it's common to hire native speakers to teach pronunciation and accent reduction/assimilation training for BPOs. I know a few people who do this as well as one Filipino guy who can perfectly mimic 3 or 4 regional U.S. accents perfectly because of this type of training. He's cool at parties too in case you were wondering :P

My wife is from Iloilo too. We could easily retire in the RP, however I'm super afraid of boredom. After settling in, then what? On visits there I remember constantly having to walk in the road, because the sidewalks were broken or blocked with either vendors or vehicles and when walking in the road I had to dodge the jeepney smoke and our life is at serious risk. When passing by a river, creek, anything with any amount of water, it stinks. The noise and air pollution is pretty bad there too. A big change one has to be ready to fully accept and welcome, because they aren't going to change things anytime soon in a major way. People describe the place as beautiful and I'm not sure why. I'm not sure I could deal with the chaos daily. I'd choose Thailand over the RP and my wife would at least be able to take short plane rides to visit family. Good luck.

When you have the responsibility of supporting a family, it is not as easy to drop things and move on without the income. I continue each day to look for ways I can leave the job I am in now and come to the Philippines permanently. I will not leave though until I am satisfied my family can be supported. KZbin and blogging is not the million dollar venture, but at least you meet some cool people that can share ideas and also maybe even their failures and or success. Good stuff as always! Just a couple ideas where I have my money invested to allow me to retire next year at the age of 42. Keep in mind all but one is in Manila. 2 Taxis. You buy the vehicle and franchise fee. You get a flat rate (boundary 1400P) everyday 6 days a week. 4 Food carts. Everyone needs to eat and in the Philippines they want it cheap. Mine are located in the mall. Rental condo in Ortigas and another in Baguio. Both are utilized 50% of the time. These investments allow me to live the same lifestyle I'm able to in the US plus put away some for emergencies.

+ForceOfWizardry ...both taxis were purchased new with extended warranties. So for the first 7 months I've only had to pay for tires and oil changes. And when the warranty expires parts and labor are dirt cheap. Instead of paying $60/hr for labor... Think more like $10/hr. Parts come from Asia so everything is less expensive.

As for onsite management I have an independent agent who manages the transitioning of guests, housekeeping, etc. $160 a month and I'm in good hands..... Seriously start thinking EL NIDO. Word is out its the number one island in the world. More and more people are finding this out and getting out of their comfort zone and taking the trip. Any type of tourist business their is going to be profitable. I actually have an idea I'm going to throw a few dollars at there.

How much were your taxi permits? Do you need to purchase the permits on the secondary market or does Manila issue new ones? Did you need to pay for food cart permits? If so, how much were they? Where you able to finance the condo units?

The small store yur gf has running is the roughly the same as me and my wife will be opening and running in rio tuba plus we already have a hecter of for our new house to be built on and we can farm on it as well. Her father has a large rice plantation there as well.

Suggestion: You are w Abby, and since she is well acquainted with the Philippines- perhaps you can go for the local tried/trued business and Franchise her sari sari store in other locations which are in need of these type of goods; but on a larger scale based on what she has all ready learned. Therefor employing more of her family members also creating jobs. Oh yeah sell some balut snacks too. lol

It has been some years since I've lived in the PI and I plan to return within the next 18 months and set up a home. I was wondering if there has been any development of self storage facilities? In the past there was a great need for this type of business. Please keep up the interesting and helpful advice.

Nice vid, was not helpful though as no real information provided. I live in Canada, have traveled to many countries the past 10 years sols, past few to scuba dive. I am an older gent, not looking to retire here., but the Phillippines may be it. I am looking 2 yrs down the road, which is why I am researching now. I will be going for my dive masters which is what I would want to do at least 3 maybe 4 days a week for a dive shop The rest of the week will be mine to enjoy. Anyhow, that's the plan, or at least my plan. Travelling different countries these past few years helped me realize, how I am living, is not it. Guess I strayed from the above post. Apologies.

Once again a great 'episode'. Perhaps an idea for future topic : cultural clashes in PH for western in both daily things along with relationship? I noticed some myself, but i was there for just three weeks so i basically experienced the upper surface. I had to let go my 'urge' to get things done quickly. Surprisingly i let go my western attitude right away otherwise it would drive me insane. Its like being in gear 6 while the rest is in gear 1...not being nasty, just thinking out loud here. I love the way pinoys handle time management, there is just none! :) Apologizes for incorrect use of the English language -if any- , i'm no native speaker.

Suits - this is just for you. I would recommend Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. If you haven't read it, this will give you great insight into what you are doing and will help you become successful in really anything you set out to do, not just business. It's a true classic. There are numerous variations, but I would recommend the original version... you may find it at the Manila Airport International Terminal Korean Air to JFK, New York City via Incheon, Korea LOL - I lost it somewhere the last time I travelled to the Philippines and that was the last place I can think of reading it, probably left it in the terminal waiting for the trip home. If you don't find it, maybe it changed the life of a filipino who may have picked it up and read it. Anyway, nice video.

Thanks for subscribe Phil, yes I agree with you that tourism is on an upward shift here. Specially in Palawan. I would recommend Palawan, but haven't been to Dumaguete so cannot speak to that. But they are opening a new international Airport here next year which should dramatically increase tourism and business opportunities. Just a suggestions,but I am biased, ha ha.

Hello Jimmy, absolutely depending on the type of lifestyle you live. Are you single? Just FYI, that is close the spending budget I have now and that includes supporting my GF and her daughter... If it is just you I believe you can live a comfortable life for that amount. However, if you were living in Manila or Cebu the rent may put a dent in your budget, unless you buy a condo for example. I am 58 yr old and a truck driver I am wanting to move to the philippines when i turn 62 when i get my ss it will only be 800 a month.....i do not have money saved..... But what i have is flyer miles so i can get there....going to save as much as i can so i can have some money......i am tired of the american life i want a simple life I don't care if I stay in a bamboo Hut I just want the simple life right down to where I am divorcing my wife and leaving cuz I am that unhappy here in the United States If I could leave right now I would but if I leave now I need some kind of income because I do not have the money to move there. so can you please help me and tell me what I could possibly do I'm just an average 58 year old man I do like taking pictures but I don't know once I take pictures where to sell them I was raised on a farm but I don't have the money or the experience or the time to have a farm I am willing to do anything just so I can come now instead of having to wait till I'm 62
