I've been in this hobby for about... 3-4 years now and there are somethings that I just noticed in the hobby. Wanted to make this longer but it just got too boring...

"doesn't matter. I'm going to put in my headphones anyway" had caught me in my soul. built my first keyboard recently, and i'm in love with the sound it makes i honestly love it. As someone who has always worn headphones its been a weird fight.

don't forget holee modding, expectation was that it completely removes ticking and makes them feel nice, also easy to install. In reality, you're better off being a surgeon than trying to put a bandaid in the stabs, and the stabs end up being more sluggish than me during math class

Honestly 3 or 4 hours of lubing would be a dream for me. I compare my switches in batches of 10 for the sound and feel, because Im very picky. So lubing can take up to 8 Hours for me... But in the end I am very happy that they turned out exactly how I wanted :)
@alexp3577

Same, but even longer, it takes me about 16 hours because I also manually lube springs and also slightly lube a part of the leaf that doesn’t affect switch working.

I've learned to stop caring about ticking as no matter what I do it comes back.... I would be in a mental ward if I kept trying to make it sound 'just right'. Just got ceramic keycaps that make them sound like marbles so I can't even hear it anymore. Also I love that one day I think my board is thocky then the next its clacky, rinse and repeat. Hehe cool, I and we know this pain on the grail search for silent but responsive & crisp actuation. Hipyo actually did it, he made a totally silent but still responsive keyboard. X-D This is the solution to not lubing and not modding (time is the no. 1 most important tool of life, the hours to lube and mod and researching the custom parts and shopping for it could be used to research and shop for textured artisan keys and sculpted artisan keys that are not just for show but are needed to know where the clusters are in the keyboard without looking- especially in intense typing or gaming) is to embrace the amazing keyboard noise a natural notification sound that says we typed something in: must switch to the amazing blue clicky and very tactile keys which 60g or more force which I love, I love feeling the click which is the point of mechanical keyboards coz' not matter what, it's still going to be noisy, thock or or clack or clack is still annoying and still noisy just at a more pleasing lower tone but it's still like that cellphone texter who didn't disable the click sounds for texting. Though Hipyo Tech actually did it, he made a totally silent but still responsive keyboard but still any switch that is the amazing blue clicky switch and is not the amazing very tactile, has a very strong amazing click that you feel (and sadly very noisy) blue switches is really still like typing on membrane even if it's brown switches- that tactile click, the stronger the click is felt, the better (doesn't mean 100g of force) because that's the essence of mechanical keyboards, it's how that mechanical aspect is felt (with the switch's click mainly is the heart). Also the best position for any keyboard is building a mouse and keyboard rig that's just millimeters "floating" above your lap (keyboard on the lap is a temporary but uncomfortable solution, similar to Linus of Linus Tech Tips' 'Lapboard' but his is just a tray design) that you can easily put away (perhaps a kind of arm that's on both sides of this keyboard and mouse "desk basement/level" and is as wide as the table and/or desk mat). God bless Rev. 21:4

Great video man! I've built a total of 3 keyboards and i stopped there... because to be honest, at the end of the day, i always feel i should have saved that money :D i don't know what where my expectations tbh, but since i like trying new stuff (for example, spent a lot of money of a custom watercool, just to learn how to do it ... and ... yeah, an AIO will do the job good enough for you not to care) ... Weird part, i actually use a wireless razer deathstalker v2 and now and then use my customs :D The same goes with keycaps ... worst buy i ever made. Got some PBT Fans keycaps that cost me a fortune ... and ... yeah ... not worth the money. I like the color scheme but, not worth the money tbh. I think we over-value stuff by a long shot :) don't know if it is to have the bragging rights ... but lessons learned. Great vid, congrats! :D keep them coming

if you're not an audiophile as well and you have a blue yeti, you can plug your headphones into the mic and have the mic passthrough your input audio! you will be able to hear your keyboard. this probably lowers the sound quality though, I'm not an expert on sound related stuff so it doesn't matter to me. at least I can hear my keyboard. also helps keep my voice down since I don't have to yell over discord calls to hear myself speaking

Missed out the best part about the lubing: the part when you assemble everything together and then realize.... there's no discernable difference compared to the factory lube that's originally on the switch which coincidentally should come with the geon x haimu switch that you used for demonstration (well, if i identified the switch correctly)

I wasn't even running tactile switches.. straight linears lol.. So, I've moved over to silent switches.. and yeah.. I think it matters depending on the use case. I don't mind clack or thock. I dont mind stab tick.. I just want the KB to be relatively quiet lol. It's all preference in the end.

Nice video. Myth: everyone can affird every fun new keyboard coming out. Reality: most of us are lucky to afford a budget keeb, with one bell and one whistle - on a payment plan. Myth: that it's easy to remove switches from hot swappable keyboards. Reality: almost broke several switches trying to remove them, and haven't managed to remove any yet. Dam frustrating. Myth: it's a bunch of rich guys in their 20s doing keyboards. Reality: it's a mix of ages and genders, and I'm pushing more clerical/admin professionals to do it because you can prevent RSI, and reduce chronic re-injury, by changing your setup away from $10 membrane keyboards - and bring back that joy in typing.
