Wouldn't it be far simpler for Alan to be nuclear powered?
@5Stringslinger Жыл бұрын
It is. Look at the Refleks stove. It's plain to see, that it is way to overbuild for burning diesel. What you see is the burning chamber where water is heated by the coils in the bottom. Those coils contain a very small amount of Uranium-235 to turn the demineralised water to steam, which powers the turbine inside the upper part of the stove. What's missing is the daytank. Normally the containment for the diesel to burn, but in this case, it's the reservoir and heat exchanger for the water. So hot air and water is for free, basically. In colder climates you get away with it, but normally you need some kind of coil outside the boat to get rid of the excess heat. A few episodes ago he fumbled around the outboard heating tubes from the diesel engine. Now we know, why. He needs it for reactor-cooling. Makes totally sense. You are able to dump so much heat in the water, that you don't have to worry about freezing in.

@@trapper9998 how we're going to crew those new nuclear subs is the biggest problem the program has.
@ThePaulv12 Жыл бұрын
@Grahame Manns Well we've got about 30 years to find the kunce, so I wouldn't be too worried. Most haven't been born yet. Even the seppo subs in 10 years will never be on time, so that timeframe can be doubled particularly when the whole thing blows out to USD$2.5 trillion. All the Royal Commissions they take 7 years from start to finish... Fear not we'll find them. You should know how it goes...

The amount of ballast water alone would require another empty Alan attached, just mount skis onto the keel and a pair of rockets on the stern step and go over the ice.
@samurai-brik667520 күн бұрын
Thank you!!! This is never going to work. Every inch of Alan was designed to float. It’s going to take an insane amount of ballast to sink it. Then there’s the question of hydrodynamics, control surfaces, air supply, the list goes on…

and here all along, I thought this was ultimately going to become one of those small tiny house deals -- except that you were going to helicopter it into the middle of a giant ice pack to find a cheap place to park it! Fully self-contained and off-grid as it were. You just kept it floatable for if/when years from now and the ice melts, it will still float instead of sinking. Then you can just helicopter it to a new frozen place to call home again. Perk of a homestead on ice is no property taxes right or building codes to conform to... or having to deal with annoying neighbors.
