Expedition M196 Folge 10 / Episode 10: Aller guten Dinge sind drei

In Folge 10 der KZbin-Serie über die Expedition M196 erklären die Wissenschaftler:innen, was den Golf von Korinth so besonders macht. Sie wagen einen weiteren Versuch mit dem Schwerelot und probieren eine leicht veränderte Methode zur Gewinnung von Sediment aus. Außerdem verrät Meteorologe Michael Martens vom Deutschen Wetterdienst (DWD), warum es besonders anspruchsvoll ist, das Wetter im Golf von Korinth vorherzusagen. Er berät berät die wissenschaftliche Fahrtleitung der Expedition zum Wetter und weiß, wann die Forschenden in welchem Bereich des Golf von Korinth nahezu ungestört von Wind und Wellen arbeiten können.

Die Expedition M196 findet in Kooperation mit der Universität Malta @universityofmalta, der University of Hawai'i @UHmagazine, dem Bundesamt für Geowissenschaften und Rohstoffe (BGR) @GeoChannelBGRLBEG, der Universität Patras @UniversityOfPatras, dem HELLENIC CENTRE FOR MARINE RESEARCH (HCMR) @EMBRC und dem GEOMAR Helmholtz-Zentrum für Ozeanforschung Kiel statt.
Die Expedition ist Teil des Projekts SMART, einer europäischen Helmholtz-Partnerschaftsinitiative.

In episode 10 of the KZbin series about the M196 expedition, the scientists explain what makes the Gulf of Corinth so special. They attempt another experiment with the gravity corer and try out a slightly different method of extracting sediment. Meteorologist Michael Martens from the German Weather Service (DWD) also reveals why it is particularly challenging to forecast the weather in the Gulf of Corinth. He advises the expedition's scientific team on the weather and knows when the researchers can work in which area of the Gulf of Corinth virtually undisturbed by wind and waves.
