Thanks for the shoutout! I had same issue you mentioned with one latch after my vids (so about 8months of use). Took me a while to figure it out but I ended up taking apart the entire latch system. There was one bolt in the mechanism that I remember was a bit loose (or too tight - don’t remember now) and it was causing misalignment. Fixed it and hadn’t had an issue since. If needed… I can take it apart in a few weeks and send some pics (DM me on IG).

Thanks for watching! I really enjoy your videos and learn a lot from them. I'll have to take it apart again. The latch on the tire side seems to be much looser. I already had it apart and tightened it, but it's still finicky. I'll send you a DM. Thanks!

Thanks for this different perspective with the placing of the Spare Tire & the Right Tail Light... This was not addressed on other KZbin Video on this bumper & then Again not everyone is rolling with 35 inch Tires. I to have this Bumper as my first choice because of the Handels. If you contact them, it is said that they are quick with a resolve with the known Handle issue. It is a shame that you had a difficult time with this bumper. Lot of these Fab Shops are not providing installation manuals with their products, but they do put install videos online. Thanks for this great Video Sean. Please keep it up !!

Thanks for the feedback! They have online instruction manuals. But they are pretty vague and you have to kind of guess your way through some parts.

I have a expedition one dual.swing rear bumper on my Toyota fj cruiser, and I love mine no complaints I ordered mine during corvid 19 and it took some time to get but I consider this normal to many custom built products companies, sorry you not happy, but it your choice and experience, I have 35 on my yota fj no issues I have dual Jerry cans instead of many people using rotopak I don't think you find a better quality built rear bumper I have no issues with latches, I guarantee people complain about other products and lead time too , it took me many months to get mine they stayed in contact with me through out the whole process I don't complain about weight because like you said I have a arb bull front bumper with winch , I have own mine now 2 years and I love it I think it an awesome rear bumper 😊 and I would buy it again

That’s great you love it! I do like it. I would just make a few tweaks to the design. The hard part is you don’t really know what it’s like until it’s already in your driveway. I guess that’s the case with a lot of parts though.

Great review. 5 months is a lot of time and should have given you at least 10% or 20% on next.time purchase. Beautiful rig

Great information, and good move on moving the spare over so your passenger brake light shows! Thank you for sharing your experience, I think all aftermarket bumpers/ parts - lack the instruction part. Great video, looking forward to the big brake kit 👍👍

Did you have any issues with the tow hitch? I thought the instructions show a spacer for it but then the bolts will not align. There is also a recovery point on the drivers side. Was that affected?
@DBCoffroad
@DBCoffroad 28 күн бұрын
I didn't have any issues with the hitch at all. The directions are not good and you end up with extra hardware and small metal pieces that I'm not really sure what to do with. From what I can tell, you don't need them and they aren't detailed in the instructions so I'm not sure why they are included. The factory recovery point is removed, which isn't a big deal because of the new ones on the bumper.

Very cool review and experience. How about this....would you consider putting the spare underneath and not get the swing arms so that you let the dogs out faster and get your stuff quicker and not hit cars. Also, the vibration of the spare is notorious on all the bumpers...so I am just trying to figure out how to decide here. I love the look and the extra protection though. Thanks for taking the time to video this setup.

Thanks for the feedback! The problem with putting the spare underneath in the stock location is the size. The 4Runner will only accept a 33" or smaller tire in the stock location. There are videos on KZbin and Forums that discuss that. The drawback that I have seen is that the 33" tire is also wider than stock and sticks down, which could cause a departure angle issue. I wanted to get the rear bumper regardless because I kept scraping the stock plastic bumper when I offroaded and didn't want to damage the body. I have a friend who has the C4 dual swing bumper and his doesn't seem to vibrate. He's also running 33s so that might help. The camera relocation is the issue with the Expedition One bumper. It causes you to move the spare higher, which creates more leverage for vibration. If I did it all again. I would stick with 33-34" tires. And mount the spare as low as possible on the carrier (probably with a different brand or avoid the camera relocation from Exp One). Let me know if you have more questions. Thanks!

This was helpful man, thank you...the split bumper looks awesome, but I'm with you on the convenience of a single arm, which is already an added step over stock. Plus the pain of trying to manage that in a busy Costco parking lot, and not hit the car next to you? No thanks :)

Thanks! Glad it was helpful. But Costco has such big parking spaces to load your giant cart. 😂

Is the camera blocked without the tire on? I was only going to add the tire when traveling. I don’t want to use the camera extension box

It is very slightly by the accessories mounted on the drivers side swing. Otherwise it’s ok. Doing it again I wouldn’t put the camera mount on and just wire the camera differently

Hey. I’m glad you have your line in the sand. It is a lot of weight, no way around it with the bumper. All the other parts (skids, roof rack, front bumper) add up quick too. Thanks for watching!

Nice to revisit and wanted to know if a folding table would fit on either side of the swing arms? Thanks agian!
@DBCoffroad
@DBCoffroad Жыл бұрын
There’s a small gap that would work. Expedition One sells a table that attaches. Except they don’t have any photos of how it actually works on their website.

Thanks for the detailed video. But you didn't mention towing (and I've seen you towing in other videos). These rear bumpers look awesome but I personally can't justify the weight. It eats up more more than half of the tongue weight. Now you're left with 200 pound tongue weight capacity. 4Runner already isn't the best tow vehicle to begin with. It just seems like it permanently alters the functionality of the vehicle. Probably okay if it's your overland only rig and have another truck for towing. But I can't see saddling my one and only vehicle with so much weight.
@DBCoffroad
@DBCoffroad Жыл бұрын
You’re totally right! So the new problem now along with the brakes, is the 4Runner weighs 5980lbs with a full tank of gas and me in the drivers seat. The Gross Vehicle weight is 6300lbs. So technically, I can still tow my trailer with the 380lb tongue weight, if I just take off the spare 35” tire. Also, I can’t take my girlfriend, dogs or any camping gear. Haha 🤦🏻‍♂️ Regardless, we are going to sell our trailer because of what I’ve added to the 4Runner. 🤦🏻‍♂️ #overlandovereverythingelse If you are going to tow with the 4Runner I would do everything I could to reduce the weight. Aluminum skids. Aluminum front bumper. Maybe one of those RigD tire swings. Just try to reserve a buffer for the trailer tongue weight and gear.

Is there an area to use a high lift jack?
@DBCoffroad
@DBCoffroad Жыл бұрын
Not integrated in the bumper like some other bumpers. You could use a D-ring or soft shackle in the shackle mounts or get something to go into the hitch. Otherwise no.

@@DBCoffroad my first choice is expedition one and my second choice is the dobinson rear bumper because they have hi lift jack points… Have you thought about where you would lift the car from the rear using a hi lift? Someone said they would just use the receiver hitch…
@DBCoffroad
@DBCoffroad Жыл бұрын
@@graysonatlas I haven't had to use it yet. I would 'theoretically' use a D-ring on one of the shackle mounts. Instead of the bumper, I was planning on using the hi-lift on the rock sliders and just ratchet strap the axle to the frame. However, I've only used the hi-lift jack 1 time. And they are kind of sketchy. There are plenty of videos showing how they are kind of a "death trap" for jacks. It is almost just a "cool" thing to carry, but difficult to use when needed. I have been seeing more people use scissor or bottle jacks that have thicker base pads under them to jack up the axle. There also a couple companies like Safe Jack or 911 Motorsports that make mods for better use. Hope this is helpful.
