Expedition Through Rugged Oregon Canyonlands | Feature-length multi-episode compilation

Picking up from the end of the previous year's Bend-to-Alvord overland trek, Jason and I meet back up a year later, setting off into remote Oregon backcountry to scout a new leg of the route through some of the most rugged & unforgiving but strikingly beautiful terrain Oregon has to offer.

Donald, your reactions as you entered the ranch area brought a smile to my face as I remember making some of the same noises you did upon first seeing that area 😆. That little desert oasis that you guys stopped at is a choice spot. We were there September a year later and unfortunately the spring had dried up but you could tell there was still water underground as the cattle tended to congregate in the bottom of the empty pond and stir up a bit of mud. We hope to get by there another time when it looks more like it does in your video than in mine 😒

One of my goals for next year is to recreate this trip. I haven't been able to locate the first or last night's camping locations, but I know where the middle four nights, from Rome onward to the Jasper mine, were and they were the best ones of the trip.

Regarding the mud on the playa, another youtuber was filming somewhere else and the surface appeared dry. But as he was driving fairly quickly, went several car lengths into a soft spot before coming to a stop and then had to wait hours to get pulled out.

You missed the biggest of the three cabins at the jasper mine by not following the road down the switchbacks.

Yep, at the time I was under the impression there was nothing but a landing at the bottom and it felt pointless to keep burning gas without knowing how much worse the road might get. On a separate visit the following year, Jason actually hiked up from below and found the cabin. I love this area so much, I will certainly return one day...third time's a charm! :-)
