Sounds great until you actually live it. All these things are great when you have modern convenience to fall back on. It's 1 thing to go hunting 1 time a year , it's another to do it for survival all the time. Lack of medical care would kill most before 40 . Honestly most people couldn't do it.

Keep on defending our identity as a people, as Catalan I am all my admiration and respect for the Sami people, greetings from Barcelona (Catalonia).
@gustavodemira74165 жыл бұрын
Don't get it twisted, Catalans are as disconected from nature as Swedes or Spaniards. Also, Catalonia is much closer to an independent state than the Sami. No need to make anything political, seeing as the solution is not political. The solution is ethnical, cultural and enviromental.

A lot of beauty and truth here. When we value money and power or security over beauty, we are only hurting ourselves, our ancestors, and our descendants.

When Covid dies down and you feel comfortable travelling come visit! The south sami people are sadly few and far between these days but in the north we have towns that are majority sami people (90% atleast). If you visit during easter you will have the best time as the whole area livens up with festivals, culture and art galleries, reindeer racing (you could even ride a reindeer sled yourself!), take a sort of snowmobile safari trip and just experience a people with a very different mindset to the standard european or american one. Most people below the age of 60 speak either fluent or serviceable english so you won't have any communication barrier, and we are very welcoming to visitors aslong as you are respectful. If you do decide to come during easter, pack some woolen clothes because it gets pretty cold still, this is the sub-arctic after all.

@Amalie Olsdatter Indigenous means living in old traditional ways. Norse do not really practise their old way of living, thats why norwegians or europeans generally are not called indigenous. Also sami are not the only indigenous people in europe, Some nenets for example live in european side of arctic too. Mansi people used to live in european side of ural but were pushed to siberia by russians and komis. But then again also some komis live in siberian indigenous way of life like sami. Theres also mari people. Sami, nenets, komi and mari originate from same siberian people. Some mixed/assimilated more to europeans than others. Sami culture is mostly siberian but with european influence. Mari culture is mostly european but with siberian influence. Nenets is fully siberian. Most komis live european way, but some live in tents the reindeer peoples way like sami and nenets. People usually do not know that sami people have lots of relatives. Nenets, ngansan, selkup, enets, khanty, mansi people, komi, udmurt, mari etc etc and some of them live in european side of ural.
