Mine was a Gunne Sax, fine batiste fabric, high neck with an illusion yoke, no train. Bought in a junior store in the mall for around $100-150; veil was a clearance find , maybe $25. Slip, shoes, dress and veil maybe $250-300, wedding total maybe $800. Still married 35 yrs later, been through the sickness and health thanks to finding out I had cancer, richer or poorer with an emphasis on the poor. My cousin had a big lace southern Belle gown, hat to match, the whole nine yards; divorced within a year after he became physically abusive.

@@pamfink4052 thanks for sharing your story. Congratulations on your marriage. Sorry about your cancer. I hope you are now cancer free🙏. Marriage isn't about the dress or rings or even the reception or the after parties. It's a union. It takes work, trust, compassion, love, understanding, forgiveness and respect. You don't give up because something doesn't go your way. People think everything is disposal now a days. No work involved. I once seen a billboard on the freeway that read "You had a really nice wedding, now invite me to the marriage. Signed God". Yes, I can totally relate I had a cousin who's dad, my uncle took out a second mortgage on his house so she could have a fancy show off, look at me wedding. My mother told him that was stupid. It lasted less than 3 years and they divorced. My Uncle had to worked 2 jobs and my aunt went back to work to paid it all off. 6 months after he paid it off he had a massive heart attack and died. Did she appreciate it no, she never offered to help with the expenses. I'm sure your gunne sak was beautiful. I made my own veil, I think I spent around 8.00 for the lace, tule, headband and silk flowers. I bought my white satin heels from Baker's shoe store in the mall for $10.00. my dress is a hi-lo, all lace with long sleeves, higher neckline and a big bow in the back. I had an under slip. My husband bought a tux from a going out of business sale for $39.99 the shirt, tie, cumberbund and shoes were an extra 20.00 because they labeled them used. I think we spent 40-50 on the flowers. My bouquet and his boutonniere sits in my china cabinet next to a little blown glass wishing well he bought me for our 1st anniversary. I think he paid 40.00 to the pastor who married us. We chose not to have a reception or take a honeymoon instead we dined at a really nice restaurant. So all the money we could have spent bought a house, a few car and put 3 kids through college over the years. I wish you many more happy years together in your marriage. 😊

I attended the wedding of a friend's daughter back in 1992; the dress cost $25,000 back then. The bride and groom went on a 2 week honeymoon; when they returned, the bride got off the plane and IMMEDIATELY went to a lawyer and filed for divorce. Groom turned out to be a real creep/pervert. The dress is of no value whatsoever in a marriage

My wedding dress cost $100 for the fabric which was Silk Velvet, our wedding day was in winter. I chose a single white orchid on my prayer book. My husband wore his military dress uniform. My Maid of Honour and Flower-girls all wore A-line long gowns in silk velvet and carried hand-muffs. I had exquisite wedding shoes that didn't break the bank along with a gorgeous silk satin coat dress with suede bag and matching shoes to go a way in. I needed a long dress for my best friends Debutante Ball shortly after our wedding and couldn't afford to buy anything, so I took the train off the back of my dress, closed up the seam, replaced a single row of daisy lace under the A-line bust with black velvet ribbon. I selected a cameo brooch on black velvet chocker necklace with matching earrings in black. I think I got my monies worth out of my wedding dress. To top it all off, we have been married 51 years. We have had a very adventurous life together and now in retirement, there isn't a single thing remaining on our bucket list. Many girls have alway dreamt of their fairy like wedding day. For most it's all about their big day and themselves, many competing to have a bigger and more expensive wedding than their friends. It's never about the reason for their big day. A day that should be all about love, commitment to the one you love, along with family and friends to celebrate with. Everything on our wedding day was full of love and meaning. I honestly feel young women today are guided by the over commercialized wedding magazines. Magazines published for the only purpose of parting foolishly women from hard earned money. These top ten wedding gowns while absolutely stunning and beautiful, merely show off how rich their parents are. Just remember, money doesn't buy you love.

After a certain point, the price doesn't make the beauty of the dress. Some of those enourmously expensive dresses are just too much: too much fabric, too much bling ... takes away the elegance. Not mentionning the fact that the mere idea of wanting a wedding dress to be as expensive as possible, to show off on such a day that should be about love above all things, is vulgar per se. Of the ones featured here Kate Middleton's is my favourite by far: flattering for her, impressive enough yet remaining elegant... gorgeous.
@geemo42842 жыл бұрын
I agree completely. The glitzy, sparkly one’s just look really tacky to me, but Kate’s was lovely one her and, I think, was very ‘her’. She looked beautiful, but also like herself. I thought the first dress shown was also elegant, but I didn’t like it as much as Kate’s.

I think it’s a case of focusing more on the wedding and not the marriage or relationship itself. I’ve known people who spent the equivalent of half of their salaries on the wedding alone and their marriages lasted maybe a couple of years. Then others spent maybe a few hundred to a few thousand and were happily married for 30+ years or are still married.

I think responsibly sourced dresses are the best route. Low cost wedding dresses are not benevolent either, as they are guaranteed to be made in sweatshops with no labor laws. With hundreds of thousands made each year, they are arguably more harmful than one expensive dress. On the other hand, a 12 million dress is an unnecessary flex of funds that could be used for charity. I say all this to say, make responsible decisions.

The bridal dresses in this video are very beautiful. However if I and my husband had to put out millions of dollars for one dress, then our daughters would have to sign a contract saying that they will have a bunch of daughters who will also wear the dress, and hand it down to their daughters to wear when they marry. Putting out millions for just one dress is huge investment that screams more than one bride needs to use the dress to make it worth the money put out on it. My Mothers bridal gown was to die for and so beautiful, and she did dream of me wearing her dress to get married. However it was not to be as the dress was size 8 and my Mother being five' eight inches tall meant the dress hem would have to be taken up quite a bit as I am five feet exactly. Her dress also would have to be altered to fit me as I weighed only 94 pounds. When I went shopping for a wedding dress the first place the man asked how much I weighed, I told him and he said we have nothing to fit you, and he referred me to another place, and sure enough that place also said they had nothing that would fit me, both places didn't even offer for me to try on a dress and offer alterations to make the dress fit me! The last place I went to also said that they didn't have wedding dress in my size, but if I saw anything I liked they would do the alterations at half price after hearing what I had been through. I did find a beautiful dress and they did do the alterations. My dress was heavy white silk with lace over the top and long sleeved as we got married December 27, 1979, in West Virginia where my husband was from. My dress and Lace veil cost me $300.00, my shoes only cost $35 dollars. I was so very happy!

It was simple but elegant and cost $1,500 the look on my parents face sealed the deal. I kept it for years but my friends mum makes memorabilia dresses etc and donates them to the Bonney babies foundation (early death born without breathe babies) they are just beautiful and very special I was so very happy seeing my gorgeous gown be passed on and given to families having to bare the unthinkable and lose a child.

I always feel that when I see a bride talking about 'her big day' it kind of reflects she isn't marrying someone who excites her or who she really loves. It's more about the big day. I went to a wedding that cost £100,000. It was very sad to sit at the table and eat the food whilst most of her friends at that table bad mouthed her. I said 'She's paying for us to have a meal and be at her wedding, so please show some respect.'. They shut their mouths but ignored me for the rest of the evening. I left early. The bride divorced 2 years later. If a magical policy came out that nobody was to spend more than 2000 dollars for a wedding, I guarantee you, far less people would get married.

I don't care how rich people spend their money. It's theirs ... let them do as they want with it, as everyone should be able to do. It's about how they GOT that money that should be in question. If they got it honestly and fairly, then it's no one's business but their own how they spend it. Unless everyone wants their own spending judged.

Considering the things one can do with said monies quite frankly the dress itself is irrelevant ... plus wear once .... no value to anyone else .... depreciates faster than a car .... Disney has women all messed up 🤣😂 Yes.....woman here .. when and if I marry I will make my own dress ... or vintage shop

If someone spends a million or more on a dress its usually a sign that they have a few million in their bank account to spend on feeding the starving people of the world. Do you forego your most treasured desires in order to feed or house other people?.

These dresses are lovely - no argument there, aside from it being more than slightly ridiculous to lug a dress weighing 100lbs on your wedding day. That being said, for me, spending so much on a dress I will only wear once seems crazy. The wedding is day one of the rest of your life - if you mortgage that life to pay for the first day it seems you are setting out wrong footed. How much of this money could finance a house, or at least a downpayment on one?

Judge I worked for married my husband and I for free in his office. He was a criminal judge and when I left his office the prisoners all stood up an applauded me! They were my bridesmaids and their striped jail uniform was their bridesmaid dresses! I paid nothing for the wedding! Lol! We have been married 47 yrs now and I am thankful I paid for no outrageous wedding! We bought a house instead!

Vera Wang isn’t a bird killer nor did she strip thousands of them of their feathers leaving them naked. Peacocks are the males & naturally molt all their tail feathers every year. Peahens don’t have the famed plumes. Peafowl is the species name.

Hard to believe the large sums of money spent on wedding dresses. $12,000,000.00. If I had that kind of money. I still would not spend it on a wedding dress. Any dress. But if they are smart enough to know how to earn or get that kind of money---they can do whatever they want with their money. Enjoy💕

How many peacocks lost their lives for that dress?
@geemo42842 жыл бұрын
I doubt any peacocks lost their lives. They naturally shed feathers every year. Having said that, I would be perfectly happy for the peacocks that live next door to me to lose theirs - I haven’t had any sleep in weeks.

@@suziestar7778, believe me, I’ve tried earplugs. Nothing comes close to cutting out that shriek. It sounds like someone’s being murdered outside your window, but it goes on and on. Can’t get my head round how such a gloriously beautiful bird can make such a hideous noise. They do leave a present of a nice feather or two when they come over the wall, though.

@@geemo4284 maybe you can change your bedroom to another bedroom ( If you can of course ) facing away from them, gee Im not sure what else you could do, maybe you can collect their feathers and sell them as people love them, that may partially compensate for their rudeness, good luck!
