British composer Matthew Locke wrote The Tempest, a 10 piece work in 1667. It was in this piece where Locke used directions such as 'soft' and 'louder by degrees' for the very first time and also added tremolos for strings.
Amsterdam Sinfonietta played this piece in the program Lucie in the Sky with Diamonds.
