Hawk Ridge in Duluth, Minnesota is a premier destination to watch migrating hawks and other birds, with American Goshawk, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Broad-winged Hawks, and American Kestrel as some of the top species to see. While up north, I had the chance to check out their Hawk Weekend festival to see if this spot lived up to the hype. This was filmed in September.

My dad was an incredible birdwatcher. We could go into a woods in the Spring and he could show me a huge number of birds just by coaxing them out because he knew all the birdsongs. He saw the first yellow-throated warbler in Minnesota and was the only one who identified a wheatier. He used to band hawks. He got a "silver" award for his birdwatching in Wisconsin. I loved my time with him :)

Good Morning 🌅 to you from Singapore 🇸🇬. While during my holiday stay in Singapore 🇸🇬, yesterday I saw and photographed both the MALE and FEMALE, Ornate Sunbird, and I saw but was not able to photograph the FEMALE Green Leafbird, as it was moving too fast towards the top canopy of the 🌳 tree. It made my day and I was so happy 😀

Hawk Ridge looks amazing. My favorite hawks are the common black hawk and the zone-tailed hawk.

Hawk ridge is an amazing place! It should be on every birder's bucket list imo, but I'm Minnesotan and might be biased 😁

Another amazing spot is Whitefish Point in Michigan's UP. Easy spot to get Golden Eagles, Goshawks, Rough-leggeds, and just about any other bird of prey

We’ve heard about it! How reliable are the goshawks there?

@@BadgerlandBirding They're possible throughout spring and throughout fall, but they're mostly spotted around late march, right when golden eagles start to increase in numbers. Never super common, but you're guaranteed a few in the spring. I've only been a few times but I keep track of all the sightings around there. Absolutely legendary spot regardless--just recently a burrowing owl, great-tailed grackle, chestnut-collared longspur, and sabine's gulls have been spotted, all within the last week alone. Not to mention the Harris's sparrows that show up every fall.

@@DanielZmolek 👋 if you’re not open to seeing science communication in action that’s up to you. Being able to see and release a Hawk up close could be a big spark moment for people to want to learn more about birds and bird conservation, and they learn a lot from the banding data, while obviously the bird was unharmed.
@DanielZmolek
@DanielZmolek 10 сағат бұрын
@@BadgerlandBirding no proof the bird was unharmed and ‘science’ has pretty much decimated birds. Wouldn’t care if they paraded a starling around but a majestic hawk is way better than that.
